I really don’t like how this “connects” to the MCU. It feels almost like it was outsourced or something. I think it really ruined Nick Fury’s character honestly.

He lost his eye from a cat scratch? That’ll affect future rewatches of The Winter Soldier.

Actually (as you should remember from TWS), he lost his vision (not the actual eye) due to a Flerken scratch. It seems fitting that it was the result of an alien encounter. :lol

Oh I didn’t know that was a thing in the comics ok cool.

Anyways my ONE glaring issue is this:

So she left earth for freaking 15-20 years wut why!!!! Right am I calculating that right? If so that makes no freaking sense. Did Fury not once think to call her back!

Ok that’s it lol

From what I've read, there's an explanation given for that in Endgame. Not sure if it will be enough to satisfy the issue, but it is addressed.

You gonna be ok with CM saving the MCU in endgame?

Funny thing... I didn’t care about her being the most powerful mcu character and beating Thanos before she started with the sjw crap.

Now it’s like I just don’t want Brie Larson getting that honor :lol

See I have no problem with strong women. Just ones that lecture me on sjw garbage :lol

See now you’re just being childish lol

She sold me JAWS what can I say I enjoyed her portrayal the attitude and pace she created for herself.

However with that being said HELL NO I won’t accept a single savior it must be a group effort and thankfully the Russo’s/Feige already confirmed that will be the case.

I'm still not convinced Marvel is going to save the MCU. Adding her power and skill set to the team will definitely have a huge impact, but it's not like the heroes don't need help. They hit Thanos with pretty much everything they had, and it still turned out pretty ****** for the universe. I have faith that the Russos will handle her the right way. It's not like the rest of the remaining team is just going to grab some popcorn, sit back, and watch Carol fight Thanos one-on-one and wipe the floor with him. It's going to take everyone.

While she's powerful, she isn't that powerful. At least that's the vibe I got watching this. Hulk is probably physically stronger at the very least.

I think she left to protect the Skrulls. That's why she specifically tells Fury to only call her if it's a real emergency. This is why Fury started the Avenger Initiative instead.

I won't go into details, but based on how it's revealed in the comics I thought they might save it for Endgame, as another character's reaction to her is priceless. But there's probably too much ground to cover in that movie to fit it in.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that as well. Given how she just reconnected with her surrogate family (best friend & her daughter), there better be a compelling reason why she's waited this long. Especially given how the mid-credits scene made it seem like she just zipped across the galaxy in a heartbeat. Probably out saving Skrulls & other refugees from the Kree, but you'd think she'd bop back occasionally to check in on her friends.

I'm glad to see you liked it, jye!
Personally, I loved it. It's not the best of the MCU, but it's nowhere close to the bottom, either.
Some thoughts .....

- The trailers actually don't do the movie justice, especially where Brie Larson's performance is concerned. From the very beginning, she's always being told to keep her emotions in check. I think she's meant to be a bit "wooden". Also, Carol has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor, which is conveyed in this way as well. As she starts to figure out more about herself and her past, there's a noticeable change.

- The rest of the cast is great. All of the supporting cast add memorable parts to this story.

- Ben Mendelsohn completely owns every scene he's in. The performance he's able to give behind all of that makeup is truly impressive.

- The movie is funnier than I was expecting. Yeah, it's an MCU film, so there's always humor, but it worked for me.

- Even though we see glimpses of it in the trailers, when Carol fully powers up and goes "binary" ... wow.

- That cat. That ****ing cat ..... :lol

- Though the movie definitely touches on girl power, I never felt like it was overly forced or we (the audience) were beaten over the head with it. The greater message seems to stem from, no matter how many times you get knocked down or held back, always find a way to get back up and persevere. That isn't gender-specific.

- As jye mentioned, the way the story was told and how the plot unraveled was both unexpected and unconventional, especially for an MCU film. I can understand how not everyone will like that.

I have many more thoughts, but I actually saw the movie twice last night and I'm working on less than 4 hours of sleep, so I apologize for my ramblings.

I agree 100% great review.

I loved it although I don’t why I thought he
lost it on his mission in Columbia.

Either way a nasty eye infection from a freaking “The Thing” cat is perfect, love it!

Hmmm we shall see said the blind man lol

Bingo well said! :exactly: :lecture

Yeah I totally didn’t get the vibe that she was perfectly “ALL POWERFUL” no one else will be needed.

For me the feminist agenda wasn’t out of control in this I really think parents with young daughters are going to enjoy this.

Men weren’t put down to elevate her not that I saw anyways.

It will be interesting to see how she interacts with the rest of the Avengers. Will she be a team player or will she think she's the boss?

I say this because.

The Avenger name comes from her call sign as a AF pilot.

It makes you think that

over the years there's been a line of communication open between them, via a SHIELD satellite relay or something. Given how the Skrulls & Kree are so advanced technologically, it seems plausible that they could/would set that up. Something in addition to his "I've fallen & I can't get up" emergency pager. It would also be a way for her to be up to speed on the rest of the Avengers, so she could come into Endgame with a built in respect for people like Cap as well as an understanding of what they each bring to the table.

Edit: I could see this as a way Carol also keeps in contact with Monica & Maria. Something Fury would arrange & keep "off book", like Barton's family.

I think it is completely possible that she returns every so often. She just doesn't get here during times of crisis. Her hair looks suspiciously modern at the after credits

I'm seeing it again tomorrow but first impressions are that it was pretty underwhelming.

Not really sure who Carol Danvers really is after all is said and done. I think that's where the movie fails the most.

Also, I think someone said Fury was out of character. I was expecting an arc from him that transformed him into the Fury we see in Iron Man but no. He was... something else.

Agreed. You can also see it by Carol's reactions to him when she's getting ready to leave. It's a subtle performance by Larson in that scene, but it works.

Talking about subtlety I loved her knod to
Stan, very touching

Her
Black Widow hairstyle looked awesome there lol

When they play that No Doubt song in a fight scene. Uuuuuugh. That was so out of place and fell FLAT.

Yes, that song was a bit too on the nose for me as well. Reminded me of when they used The Immigrant Song in Ragnarok. That's an awesome song, but IMO it also seemed a bit too obvious. But neither detracted from my enjoyment of their respective films.

Seeing it again tonight. Will be looking for more Easter eggs. Did anyone else notice

Kelly Sue DeConnick during the train station scene? There were probably other comic book writers in this that I wouldn't recognize, but she was hard to miss.

Those "connections" IMO are cringeworthy. There's stuff I don't wanna know, or don't need to know. Or at least wouldn't have written for cuteness and/or forcing the importance of the CM character.

So just gonna totally ignore some stuff since it was an un-needed sales pitch. So different from the handling of connecting Black Panther into the MCU.:(

It would have been great if they had NEVER revealed the Nick Fury thing. Leave it a mystery!

“Wanna know how I got these scars?” The answer to that in Dark Knight was perfect.
