I saw it, I liked it well enough. It exceeded my expectations, and, as it goes, was probably one of the better "Introduction" movies, better than Dr. Strange or Thor. I thought Brie was just fine. Don't know why people gave her so much crap. I'm not sure she really gave it her all - I thought Lashauna (sp?) Lynch really did wonders with the Rambeau role and beat her in acting chops.

More spoilery things:

- As much as I'm a sucker for the 90s (it being my childhood and all), I thought they did a bit too much with the musical callbacks. Makes complete sense to have period music playing in the background, but once you get to music when she's visiting Central Intelligence and then the prerequisite "I'm Just a Girl," it just felt a bit too much. It just didn't feel as perfectly tied in as the Guardians stuff.

- Also: The "I'm Just a Girl" fight scene not only is a bit of an obvious choice, the choreography just wasn't good enough to justify it. Hit-Girl's hallway scene in "Kick-Ass" is iconic for a reason, and it's not just because it's set to Joan Jett.

- I don't mind flipping the script on the Skrulls, I just wish they would've been played a bit more menacing and less comic relief. The scene where the science officer is a moron is funny. The scenes where the tiny Skrulls are inept as Cap Marvel busts out of captivity are just dumb.

- The movie raises some interesting questions about the Kree and their place in the galaxy. Hopefully in her inevitable follow-up film, we see what she's been up to and what drove both Korath and Ronan off the deep end.

- Also there's a story not being told about how Mar-Vell got in with SHIELD to gain access to the Tesseract in the first place. Did she steal it? Is she working with them? Does that mean someone high up in SHIELD at this point knows that aliens exist?

I agree that most of the actors, even Clark Gregg, outshined Brie in this movie. It really feels like she phoned it in, especially for an oscar winner. I don't get why so many people disliked Strange so much re:eek:rigin story. I thought it did a great job and was a great movie.

Look a sane review without bias!

We agree on Aquaman also....except
I think I dislike that a bit more than you.

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

Weeelll...again no-one asked:cool:, but I always figured Aquaman's current movie look is a total rip-off of Thorin Oakensheil's hair - which IMO IS very cool, but can't get that out of my head and "stealing" annoys me. Besides the fact that, IMO to the MCU's credit, their looks seem to be derived/updates from the comics.

The winter soldier's inked eyes being the "update" to the mask being a genius way:clap to deal with a comic mask that would have been stuck on a real person - how?
Black Widow often has a belt that looks like metal discs, but in practical terms huge buckles and high heels just don't work out well. But thanks to Ryan Menderling and others, I think the MCU has had great character looks.:love (CM to me looks like CM - it's not like they trotted her out looking like some other movie character).

(Too bad because if Iron Studios 1/10 Aquaman had the classic blonde hair I'd be all over it. I've even idly wondered if the head could be replaced....)

well, the Aquaman movie itself - right now I don't have the same level of caring the way I do for the MCU. So I'm a lot calmer:monkey3 and guess that lets me roll with a film more. Like I don't think JL is that bad. It could've been a lot better, and there's some stuff I actually laugh at, and the stache-gate thing:cool:, but it's alright-ish.

Or, if DC wants to put out lackluster films, whatever at this point:slap. Sony had the good sense to go hat in hand to Marvel re Spidey. If a business wants to be stupid and throw away license rights to 3 of the most iconic characters ever created (Batman, Superman, WW) - when there's a ready-made, global fan base - by not slowing down and INVESTING in the work and characters - then I think the fan base has spoken. I think DC is tired of being a joke tho - hope so! Funny thing about Aquaman - IMO there were some good bones there, underneath the spectacle and romp. Maybe that's what people responded to.:dunno

I liked DS and IMO did great with a character that wasn't exactly the easiest I think to bring to film. There were huge pluses too like the filming in Nepal that I think really elevated the film. But - I'd agree with critics the script is somehow thin. Can't exactly say why; just here and there it could be better.

As for Brie, partially I think it's just physical - she just doesn't have the right face for the part. So if she's acting tough/stoic to me it's not, visually, like a Katheryn Winnick.

Brie just looks bored or sulky.

Holy crap Josh Trank’s tweet :lol :lol :lol

Someone tweeted referring to CM opening weekend as being no big deal with “no superhero movie fails”.

Trank responded back with “Hold my beer”

:lol :lol :lol

Lol doubt it. Fox only ever focused on wolverine and made him the star so another wolverine less movie won’t do any numbers . Not to mention the new cast are awful and it’s being rebooted soon. So why even bother.

Fox came full circle back to the storyline that ruined the X-men franchise the first time.

It looks like CMs $455 global take this weekend is actually the sixth biggest global debut in film history...even with the typical 50 - 60% + second weekend drop that is standard for blockbuster movies this will be a huge success. Guess the ticket buying public agrees with or (like me) could not care less about the star of the movie's cultural hot takes.

Second weekend will be the tell because that's when word of mouth kicks in and it becomes more about how good people feel the movie is.

I'm not surprised this opened big because it was sandwiched between two of the biggest MCU films (and teased in IW), and the MCU brand trust is super strong.

I agree with all of that, but I still don't think anyone was predicting the 6th-highest global opening EVER.

This making money was obvious :lol

And me! Don't forget me! :D They always say the greatest revenge is success. :)

I think the MCU hype is at an all time high, and has been since IW. And since that film teased the character at the end, that certainly upped the hype, compared to say, other solos like Ant Man and Strange - the hype is certainly real and the timing of the release I'm sure was intentional to take advantage of that.
