Honestly, it's only controversial to those that read that deeply into such garbage. Folks that feed on politically charged articles and comments are certainly going to be either offended or inspired by Bries comments.

I find her comments very lame as I do when any celebrity comments on such things, but it's really not hard to separate Brie Larsen the person from the role she plays in the movie. This isn't Brie Larsens movie, she just plays a role in it.

That said, I still havent seen it, just because I haven't been able to make the time lol. On the Alita/boycott thing though, wasn't the point of that whole thing just to bring up the numbers so that there would be a sequel made?

Agreed for the most part.

At the same time, it could be avoided if Hollywood would stop insisting on being part time political activists and pundits on the side for either end of the spectrum. Do they have to stop? No, of course not. They’re free to speak their mind and use the platform to share their opinion if they want. Why they would though, baffles me. To me, it’s similar to going to a doctor and the doctor abruptly asks you who you voted for (as if it matters), and then depending on what you say, proceeds to lecture you on how they think you should be thinking, and castigating you for it. Chances are you wouldn’t go back to that doctor again.

So while I think boycotts are stupid being that they don’t help the economy at all (you purchase a product based on the quality and cost of the the product and how it enriches your life, not on the irrelevant personal political views of the company), I don’t blame people for deciding they are quietly going to take a hard pass on being lectured, and choose to spend their hard earned money and their time on something else.

Oh I agree with you 100% my friend! It's quite a narcissistic thing for these celebrities to do, and I cant stand it myself.

At the same time, I can ignore their opinions and still watch a movie or listen to a song, or whatever. Just like how my barber and tax person's political views don't stop me from using their services, it's really the same thing to me.

If anyone else wants to boycott or anything like that, it's all good and it's their right just like it's the celebrities right to sound off on their politics. But really when does it ever end? Someone says something dumb, someone gets offended and boycotts, someone else gets offended by that and says something offensive, and on and and on and on.. lol

Yes, Thank You. People who loved that film just wanted there to be a sequel and were trying to help the BO. Some people latch on to it as an anti CM move. But it was not intended as such, although it's a far better film IMHO.

Seriously, I think people looks so hard to find some political message in every. single. thing. It's so tiresome lol

Oh no, of course. I agree with that. :duff

And that’s more less what I’m echoing, that people should be able to put politics aside. As mentioned, when people purchase products, it should be based on the quality and the cost of that product, and how it enriches their lives. The political views of the company should be irrelevant; just like the political views of the consumer should be irrelevant to the company. However, if the company insists on lecturing a large swath of people/consumers for their political views and castigating those people for having opinions that differ from the opinions that they feel they should be espousing (while often times doing the exact opposite themselves of what they’re trying to lecture everyone else on), I don’t blame those people for not calling for anyone else to boycott, but simply quietly deciding to take a hard pass on that company lecturing them and spending their money and time on something/someone else who doesn’t/won’t care about their political views.

My feelings at this point are as follows.

I was slightly irritated by Bree's comments, just because virtue signalling talk such as that has an applause-seeking aspect that IMO diminishes good deeds. But then I was more annoyed at the reaction to the reaction. ''If you have a problem with what she said then you ARE the problem'', that sort of thing. Well how convenient for you, an in-built moral superiority defense. Sorry, not buying it.

There's no doubt the left are playing a role in continually stoking the fires, the latest being the Clark Gregg interview where he rolls out the usual stuff and of course there has to be 20 more videos on youtube responding to that and on and on it goes.

Buuuut y'know, everyone needs to move on at some point and the sooner the better. It's going nowhere. I think in all fairness this thread should be allowed to become about the events of the movie itself and left for people who liked the film. I thought it was decent, not world-changing, but if there are young girls out there who want to embrace it as such, power to them. Who are we to tell them how they should feel about it. Just make sure you recommend they watch T2 and Aliens aswell. :)

I for one really loved the film! I saw it three times over the weekend.

Anyone male that's got such a problem with what Brie said needs to get their nads checked and a CAT scan. I honestly don't think she said enough about how much is wrong with White males. The film was great, so get used to it!

I'm not a dude lol. I've been just a long time lurker (and I just started buying Hot Toy) and felt compelled to speak about it. These fellas need to lighten up, it's just a movie.

Agreed. It’s got to end at some point.

But civility will only return when both sides can simply agree to disagree, and stop thinking that just because someone has an idea that disagrees with yours, it doesn’t invariably make that person a bad person, it means they just have a bad idea. When people can stop attempting to suppress dissenting thought and judging entire groups of people predicated solely on external immutable characteristics as opposed to the content of individual character. Simply agreeing to disagree as mentioned, as opposed to having to punish those possessing opposing thought and subjugating them.

To analogize it, you have one side who’s attached razor blades to their boxing gloves and wants to vanquish their “opponent” because the ends justify the means, while the other side is still trying to fight with standard gloves as per the “rules”, and is appealing to the ref to enforce the rules, but the ref isn’t doing anything about it. So in order to “survive”, they realize that they need to attach razor blades to their gloves as well.

Until both sides can agree to fight with standard gloves again and agree that there’s a fixed set of rules and tenets that apply to everyone, then nobody will come to the campfire to talk, per se.

My point precisely.

Not enough about what is wrong with white males? Wow. Could you possibly be any more moronic. All white males. You gotta be kidding. That's like categorizing all women as femnazi's. If she had said black males, she would've been tarred and featthered already. I found what she said to be typical and stupid. Did it cost me sleep? Nope. Any white male that agrees with your statement needs the CT and don't bother with the nads. Either never were any, keeps them tucked under to relate to the female struggle or got Jennerized.

I’m just amazed that after 11 years and 44 hours worth of movies that the ONLY actor to be recasted was for Rhodey!

How did no one else get fired, quit, OD or get killed in an accident lol

Marvel must be like...whew.

I mean the Sequel Trilogy lost Fisher after movie # 2!

Just to keep the record straight. My girl is a woman of color, and she disliked the film more than I did. Glad you enjoyed it.

Are we not counting Edward Norton? His ego might have an issue with that .....
