They could do that with any movie though. They purposely held out BP so that movie in particular could reach those accolades.
Exactly. It hit $700 million domestically on August 5, 2018 - only 1 of 3 movies to every accomplish that feat. It's no coincidence that it was yanked out of theaters four days later.
Okay I saw CM with the kiddos last night and figure I'll briefly chime in on my thoughts.
In short I was very underwhelmed. The trailers made it seem like it was going to be the next Green Lantern but the film itself felt more like an average episode of the current Supergirl TV show. Nothing really wowed me. I'm not kidding it really felt like a TV level production. Blond chick in a red and blue costume has altercations with aliens in the desert, occasionally battles them inside a futuristic looking government complex, has a gruff black male coworker and white female mentor. Average effects. Yep that's basically Supergirl, lol.
The part that I enjoyed the most was her initial fish out of water moments after landing on earth. Her tracking the Skrull on the train was really quite amusing. Brie did a good job in "messed up hair, angry terminator mode" but as the heroine later on that I was supposed to root for and be inspired by I thought she fell flat. Cap's "I can do this all day" was played to much better effect in his films than Carol Danvers' montage of standing up after repeatedly falling. It just felt like amateur hour to me almost from beginning to end.
The cat steals the show? Lol, who were the weirdos making that claim? The way early reviewers were carrying on I literally thought that the trailers were hiding the fact that he was going to be this amazing new talking character and be the next Rocket Raccoon. But people were gushing over an actual cat that simply rubs up against people's legs and purs? What the eff? Lol. Okay I know there's more to the cat toward the end but nothing to write home about IMO.
About midway through I was getting "AOU farmhouse" flashbacks when they were at Rambeau's place which isn't a compliment. The action at the end was barely two minutes longer than what we saw in the trailers. Thankfully none of it was particularly offensive or obnoxiously SJW agenda driven, at least in my mind, so the shill media and Brie's comments luckily didn't hamper my enjoyment of the film. She herself held her own well enough, I just don't think that the writing and directing was up to par. I've got to imagine that the Russos will give her a better place to shine.
I freaking *loved* the Stan Lee cameo. They couldn't have planned a better one for after his death. That alone made me like Brie's character.
As for the other cameo during the first end credits scene, HOLY CRAP did NOT see that coming! I literally was expecting Wolverine not
freaking bearded Cap and the rest of the IW survivors, lol.
A pretty damn indispensable scene if you ask me!
I'd probably rank CM as a film toward the bottom of the MCU and possibly even THE bottom since I just don't see myself ever wanting to sit through it again. However, it does continue the streak of not one single "bad" film in the entire series. I just found it "okay to slightly amusing" throughout, nothing more. Basically filler before Endgame like that one Daredevil episode where Karen goes upstate to hang out with her dad and brother, lol.
That hype was beyond bizarre, lol. Those early reviewers must have absolutely crapped themselves over the turtle in Rocky, lol.
What's your first favorite cameo?
Maybe I'll warm to it more on a second viewing like I did with BP. I didn't even like GotG2 on my first viewing but have come to really enjoy it after revisiting it at home.
Again, no need to be coy. You know exactly what we're talking about so you can quit dancing around the subject. Whether its politicians or movies, everyone's trying to break that next glass ceiling in an attempt to be first to ____________. I'm not saying it's wrong - it makes financial sense to exploit these feel-good stories. I'm just pointing out what they're doing.

I think you may be the one being coy my friend...I have yet to hear you state why you feel Disney kept the movie in theaters for longer than it needed to be to support your claim...just trying to get to the heart of the conspiracy. I mean if T'Challa had been played by Matt Damon and Wakanda was located in the southern part of Norway would you think the film had fairly earned its box office?
Ah, I see where you're going with this. Your last sentence is implying that I'm perhaps racist in the sense that had Black Panther been played by white people, I would legitimize it's $700M domestic accolade. Let me spell this out for you using trendy buzzwords so that you'll understand: I'm a person of color, my wife's black and we both loved Black Panther - it's easily one of the top 3 MCU films I've seen. My wife was decked out in Black Panther gear for the opening and we were both rooting for its success because it was a phenomenal movie.
My initial post to your question, "If BP got a boost from IW, how do you explain that BP made more than IW?", was that BP was out longer than IW to which I provided evidence proving so and then theorized that this was perhaps in an effort to have BP break that glass ceiling. I then said I didn't see nothing wrong with it and said it made financial sense to do it. What am I being coy about? I've been very clear in the assumptions I'm making.
You must be a sucker for blonde chicks. Just curious what scenes stirred such emotions, and were they tears of happiness or sadness? She was so op i never felt any angst for her at all. She didnt really suffer any losses other than her mentor who happened to be a kree. I guess i felt something when she went full on proton and broke out of her bonds but that was a very fleeting moment. Never felt any sadness because nothing sad really happened

Yep...they were championing diversity for people of color...the color green...their names were Franklin, Grant, and Jackson, and their green faces can all be found on our U.S. Currency.
Its all g my friend i was thinking i missed something key while watching it. Hey man people hated batman vs superman but as a huge superman fan i still felt something when he sacrificed himself, even though we hardly got to know that version and it was probably too soon for that storyline-I felt it cause i care about the character all the stories i read help me build that attachment- i didnt need anymore build up to be attached to the character. I also felt something in man of steel when jor el loaded him into the ship and gave that speech, i have a son as well and can imagine myself in his place

I felt it because of all the **** he went through in BvS with backlash from the public and the controversy of his presence, yet he never gave up on us, and that’s what it took for people to see his dedication to protecting humanity and the only home he’s ever known.

I dont want to get into a huge discussion her about that so i left that out. It was sad as hell, in the sense that he was a superman in a world that hated him and didnt trust him, no matter what he did. He was isolated, alone in a world that blamed him for the zod ****. Ill just leave it at that lol
Agreed. The only thing that I thought could have made that scene more perfect, was dawn just breaking. Would have given even more meaning to “dawn of justice,” more symbolism to Batman stepping out into the light, and would have brought Jor-El’s quote full circle (“in time, they will join you in the sun”). BvSUE is the best modern superhero film, in my opinion. As someone mentioned in the CM figure thread, it’s way more than a simple popcorn flick.
Anyway, I think we’ve stolen CM’s spotlight enough.
Just got back from the viewing with my daughter (as her reward for a great report card).
7/10 ; 8/10 watching my daughter geek out over this female hero. And yes she really did.
Was there a females can do anything slant to the film, of course....and there should have been. After seeing how amped my daughter was after the end, I realized how few example of strong female leads in film there are, especially compared to males.
Overall Brie was still the wrong choice for the role, I realize she was suppose to be keeping her emotions in check the whole film, but a better actress may have pulled off the breakdown scenes a bit better.
Some really great comedic elements, and SJ did have great chemistry with BL. Its just BL cannot hold the screen alone. The whole cat thing was pretty good.
Ben Mendleson stole that film, this guy needs alot more roles.
Overall the story had some pacing issues, but nothing too terrible. It sits squarely in the middle of the MCU origin stories as far as quality.
I will say I got a bit choked up at the opening tribute to Stan....and the cameo was done perfectly....that smile was delivered very well.
Its a good film, and clearly made with the gals in mind and heart. I say thats a very good thing.
As a side note, 3 boys around 12 were near us, and they seemed to like the film alot also. They could be heard commenting that it was cool that CM was going to be in the next Avengers film.....
Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

My son liked it too, maybe because all the male character weren’t portrayed as bad or flawed like in TLJ. They (Nick Fury and Talos) had redeemable qualities the boys could look up too like Steve Trevor in Wonder woman
