Just got back from the viewing with my daughter (as her reward for a great report card).
7/10 ; 8/10 watching my daughter geek out over this female hero. And yes she really did.
Was there a females can do anything slant to the film, of course....and there should have been. After seeing how amped my daughter was after the end, I realized how few example of strong female leads in film there are, especially compared to males.
..
Cool that you daughter liked it.. Its always nice when kids can really enjoy a movie and its hero's
Weird that my kids never really took to the idol worship like I did when I was younger. Indiana Jones, Conan, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Rambo etc.. I wanted to be all of them
But while my kids like movies they don't look up to any of the characters.. Perhaps that is because I have brought them up with showing them behind the scenes features the whole time and they always knew it was just a movie.. I don't know. Just kinda weird.. I would say my oldest would say that Godzilla is his hero
I am good with that one.
However I think there seems to be plenty of positive / strong female roles in movies (Bumble Bee, WW, Star Wars, Hunger Games, Divergent series, Laura Croft, Incredibles 2) and that's not getting into the co-starring roles that are out there. This is all good btw.. If you get out of the action genre.. Drama's often have strong female characters.. They just tend not to be in blockbusters and perhaps something you would not want to take your child to.
Strange that we see "Strong female lead" as a woman who fights and acts a bit more "man" like.. However I would say Brie's character in The Room was a much stronger woman then Captain Marvel. Granted you wont be taking your kid to see that
Of course I don't have a daughter.. So I am not sure what its like to watch a film where perhaps the woman is not "strong" or even weak and how it might affect my kid... Perhaps I am blind or take for granted all the "strong" male films that are out there.
But I would say that other then Superhero films I am not sure there are that many films with really positive male role models either.. Strong yes but not all that positive. Most of the time anymore the males play more of an antihero... I guess there are the films like Rampage, Meg, Ready Player One, and Creed that had more of what I would consider a traditional Male "hero / role model" But two of those films are not all that good either
But like I said earlier.. Being a man and having sons.. Perhaps I am taking it all for granted
But there don't seem to be a lot of Luke Skywalkers or Indiana Jones' anymore.
Maze Runner Maybe …… IDK.. Never really thought about it.
