:exactly: Yes, it made money. but it's still a mediocre film at best. No one is hiding, we've just moved on. The game is over, the teams have left the field.

Ditto. And it's clear from posted comments on other sites that some folks really, really, liked CM. They weren't offended by the things that bothered me and/or actually enjoyed them.

Nor did I ever think that Brie-backlash from Y-tubers was gonna affect ticket sales that much. Some, sure. But the families wandering malls etc. are just gonna go to a movie. They're not watching Y-tube vids. Overall, I got the impression that kids really liked her *in general*.

IMO what's there to say? For me it's the first Marvel movie to more or less completely dismiss (the more part being the cat and the Skrulls). It was bound to happen sooner or later. Over the long term IMO unless CM gets better direction I don't think she's gonna be the "face of the MCU". Plus she's got major competition from Xmen etc. that wasn't there before.

Am just glad it happened at the end of the arcs of my favs. Unhappy she's stuffed into EG, but happily down the road I'll have more money for the TV series and HT pricey re-releases of figs I already have.

Yeah but you see it wasn't...I thought it was...good...someone else thought it was bad...someone thought it was GREAT...you thought it was mediocre. The FACT is the movie was mediocre at best to YOU, but not to everyone who saw it. Marvel did not make an objectively "mediocre" movie they made a movie that was different things to different people...just like every other movie. Marvel's mission was not to make a movie that some guy with the screen name Jimcap on a toy forum would not find to be mediocre...their mission was to make money. Mission accomplished. The teams have in fact left the field and the team made up of Marvel...especially Brie Larson...and rational people everywhere won.

It would have been the complete opposite if the movie had failed. The feces talking would have been over the top and still going strong if this movie has been the flop the boycotters were predicting.

Yeah, some people would have. But not me. You shouldn't be a bad winner.

Brie Larson is an ***** but she did her job well enough. It was the directors who failed with this one IMO (though not such a failure to prevent it from still being "okay.") Not much more to say other than that. It certainly found an audience (unless the reports of Disney buying up tens of millions of tickets is true, lol) which is a real headscratcher considering all the truly great genre pictures that don't these days. But eh, whatever. Disney obviously knows what it's doing.

As I said before now that we know that she owes her powers to Cap I'll be good with whatever she does in AEG, lol.

I'm putting Deadpool stickers over her on my EG merch:monkey3. But gotta be nice 'coz some of the fam liked her movie, and there's probably gonna be enough sadness around EG:monkey2:monkey2:monkey2

(And I will never watch anything else from these directors)

Looks like the bait to try and lure the other side back to the field to keep the “battle” going worked. :lol

Finally saw this. It was Ok. I liked it for the most part. But nothing amazing. Loved the end space battle. Very cool even if a little too CGI-ish. I'm a big Silver Surfer fan and it makes me smile to think of what they could do with him & Galactus after seeing the cool cosmic powers in space stuff since now having the FF rights back. Man if only he was involved in Infinity War like he should've been...:(

Not gonna critique everything I did/didn't like. But the biggest problem I had with the movie was Brie's performance. Not enough to ruin the movie, but not enough to solidify herself as the right choice for the character. She just doesn't seem right for this type of role. It's like she's off a lot on her cues and marks as an actor during her performance. Like SLJ carried her in their scenes together.

Nothing felt on point or genuine or convincing with her. She doesn't do cocky and confident well. She's no female RDJ/Tony Stark, yet it seems like that's how they were trying to come off with her. Emotionless while trying to portray emotion. Hard to explain. She smirks at the wrong time, smiles at the wrong time. And that's all she does. She gives a stern look, or tries to give a fun and playful look. That's it. No greater range of emotion. I liked her in Skull Island, and originally had high hopes for this.

Oh well.... I still liked it better than Black Panther though.... :lol

Yeah that's why I thought she was best in her early scenes where she arrives on Earth and is just hunting the Skrulls as an emotionless terminator. That sequence played to her strengths at least, lol.

Seems like some people in this thread just wanted to argue about how everyone was wrong. I honestly don’t see anyone talking about this. It came and went. Even black panther was still being talked about now. It’s gone.

The party is not over yet. We will be back WHEN Captain Marvel hits 1 Billion $$$$ at the box office!

Not true. We don't want it to be an "argument" we want it to be recognized as an objective and inarguable fact that you were wrong :)

Well, film rating can never be objective - it's always subjective as it's based on opinion, so technically his view of the film can't be "wrong". And yet somehow.... it IS!!! :rotfl

But seriously, it's still just a movie. Not worth reigniting a flame war...

I agree it was a good strategy that provided a viable fallback by stirring up some drama. The crowd who foolishly tried to actively boycott it would get persecuted either way: if it’s a success, you’re all a-holes for trying to boycott it. If it was a box office bomb, it’s your fault because you’re all a-holes.

But the money is completely objective...the question was unfortunately never whether the movie was going to be good to be honest I do not even know what the ratings are...it was whether the angry nerds could prevent the movie from being a financial success which it objectively was and continues to be.
