Re: Steven Seagal

He was about as perfect as an action-hero you could get in the late 80s/early 90s. Haven't watched much of the fat Seagal era with actor doubles, but own most of the pre DTV stuff on DVD and Bluray. He was loved by the townfolk he saved, or the everyday people on the street he stood up for. Hell, even the crew in Under Seige loved him because he was a 'great guy' and constant thorn in the side of the evil XO. He even took it upon himself to become the preachy environmentalist at one point. Perfect driver and marksman as well (not bad for a guy who's calling card is introducing Aikido to the mainstream masses).. The only final boss battle I recall he so much as took a small bit of offense was against the Jamaican Screwface in Marked for Death.

Ahnuld in Commando is the ultimate 80s action hero. Unbeatable, wisecracks, great Dad. The only thing he needed the token chick for really was to fly a plane, otherwise he was pretty much a flawless example of a man. Not all of Arnie's heros are quite as perfect. Stallone's characters tend to be flawed. Although Rambo was a one man army like Matrix, he was a lot more flawed as a person.

For me the hype has been the problem. You are correct that Captain Marvel has never been the greatest hero. And that would be ok if she was just another Avenger on the level of, say, Ant Man. But for the past year she has been pushed as "The new leader of the Avengers", "The best and most powerful MCU hero", and "The new frontrunner of the MCU".
It feels unearned and manipulative. Kind of like "you better like her or else". I just dont like a movie studio ordering the audience how to feel about a character. And with Endgame's release in a few weeks, theres no real chance to see if the audience connects with her before she gets promoted to center stage.

Yeah, kinda surprised about the overkill from Feige, it was a turnoff IMO for BP too (as was the hysteria).

I see a fair amount of comments on power levels, so guess that's a big deal to some. So maybe it's the selling by repeating enough, like all the CM ads I keep seeing on TV.

All they had to leave it at was that she has some kind of unique power, and leave Thor, Hulk, and SW as the "most powerful" - open ended. Then she could be part of the Avengers and step up, in another CM movie. And how many times have people taken to characters who aren't even the main character? Right now it sounds like Marvel should be planning a whole movie around Goose and Talos.

Hey, I'm going to go off book here and pose an idea with respect to the actual movie. Given how the MCU has tweaked the origin stories of many of their heroes to better suit its cinematic narrative, does anyone think there's a chance that CM's power enhancement (relative to her Kree warrior brethren) could be infinity stone related? Probably not, but I was thinking maybe the Kree leadership gets its hands on one in this time frame and an accident involving it gives Carol her power enhancement. It would be a way to tie her story into the overall narrative.

W. respect tho, does anyone think maybe the Infinity stones are gettin' over-used tho. Like re the Guardians thought the idea was that these things are so powerful and dangerous that for the most part, touching one costs your life. Vision isn't "human"; and Quicksilver and Wanda were experimented on but the stone still had a jewel around it.

Red Skull got blasted away - even then the Tesseract was the cube (casing), not the gem inside. Tho Jane Foster survived; but then again the Aether was killing her over time.

Besides the Guardians tho only Ronan and Thanos I think have touched the gems themselves and lived...that kinda doesn't make sense....*&^% I should just go with whatever Marvel dishes out and not ask....:google:chug

Oh they've definitely been overused, but at this point maybe they'll just go all in. :lol But I keep wondering how they're going to explain her ending up more powerful than the rest of the Kree. Maybe Jude Law's character (Mar-Vell?) is the one who gets amped up with a stone & there's a psyche magnetron-like accident (along the lines of the comics) that transfers it to Carol.

She seems like a nice gal.

Again, were did her ****s go!

A bit of a shame really.

Lol....at least the explanations were well thought out ....and made sense.

Most of the time the folks in the boycott camp do not make a whole lot of sense.

While I disagree with the overall reaction ( mostly because I see it as an overreaction) , I can at least see where they are coming from.

Its the hypocrisy thing that bothers me most. Be outraged about all forms of racism, criminal behavior and abuse, past present and future....not just current issues cause they affect a group you care about.

You have a knack for saying what I'm thinking.
