Let's not take this personal kids.

I would imagine that this wouldn't be as interesting if there was video - we'd have more context and would be able to say definitely that CB is either an ^^^^^^^ or justified. With just audio that's indeterminate.

As for AICN quote - making like the DP is a complete amateur - he's done 13 films as a DP, so he can't be that much of an amateur. However it seems he's never worked with A-list talent - previously the biggest star on one of his films was Will Ferrell.

He also shot "We Are Marshall" with Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox.

Yeah and I bet that douche Will Farrell cant deliver an ass chewing of that magnitude either.

This thread was unlocked? Why?

Well, in any case, it gives me a place to post this:

Bale Backed Up By “Terminator” Asst. Director

When you think about Christian Bale, sunshine and little fluffy bunnies don’t exactly come to mind. Bale’s cinematic track record, including American Psycho, Shaft, The Machinist, Batman Begins, and The Dark Knight (among many, many others), is characterized by intense displays of emotion—from psychotic rages to dramatic confrontations. That’s why Bale’s little temper tantrum on the set of Terminator: Salvation didn’t come as a huge surprise for some of us. After all, the guy did supposedly snub McG when the director first offered him the Terminator script… is it such a leap to believe that he can be a bit of an ^^^^^^^ on the set?

Well now the film’s assistant director and associate producer, Bruce Franklin, has taken a public position on Bale’s little scene, saying that the actor was simply having a bad day. According to Franklin, Bale was under a lot of pressure because of the intensity of his Dark Knight promotion schedule, and as he told TMZ, “Christian is a method actor and was completely immersed in his scene … his reaction was from the heat of the moment.”

As we know now, director of photography Shane Hurlbut made the mistake of walking across Bale’s line of sight during filming, inciting the incident. Although the F-bomb fest lasted for more than 3 minutes and was capture on video, Franklin maintains that Bale was just very involved in his character. “He didn’t walk around like that all day long,” said Franklin, “It was just a moment and it passed.”

Franklin, who also worked with Bale in 2000 on John Singleton’s Shaft, added that “It has always been a good experience with [Christian]. He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this but I don’t think it’s fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it’s an art form.”

Either way, Christian Bale’s rendition of The Batman has made him “The Man” in nearly everyone’s book and it seems like it’s going to take more than a swear-laden on-set fit to change that. What we really want to know: how does Shane Hurlbut feel about this? And why didn’t he opt to change his last name? Hurlbut… that’s almost a reason to go off on him in and of itself.

*shrugs*

I want Bales outburst as a special feature on the DVD - would be a cool Easter Egg!!

Also what do you think the film's tagline could be now? Terminator Salvation - "F_ckin' ass!"

Well all I'm gonna say is I pretty much lost all respect for Bale, not that I thought he was that great of an actor to begin with. I don't care how frustrated you are, you just don't talk to someone like that, it was just an accident. The guy is acting like it's his movie and no one elses, and I just hate it when actors think they are that high and mighty and need everything perfect or they just can't do the work.

I'm just basing this off of what I heard, but I think it was enough to justify my opinion. If I was that DP I would have so got right back in his face and stood up for myself. No way am I gonna let someone talk to me like that, I don't care who they are or who they think they are. Of course just my opinion. :D In the end I'll still watch Terminator: Salvation cause I love the Terminator franchise, but I know every time I see Bale I'm gonna remember what a jerk he is, and how he treats the people he works with.

Imagine this...

You've had a long busy day. You're working your butt off to get into character for a very important scene that is said to be the emotional center of the entire film. You get into character. You act and pour your heart out into the whole scene. Then this ********* DP goes and fixes the lights in the middle of the shoot (which is a big no no) and totally F'd up your concentration. Now this isn't your first time telling the guy about this mistake. This is a repeated offender here. What would you do?

I'd probably hurl a F-ing rock at the idiot. No seriously. And I would keel hurling till I hit him since my aim is pretty lousy.

The guy is human. He got angry at a Hurlbut that pissed him off. We've all gotten angrier over smaller things. I'm sure most of us have driven through morning traffic right? Hahaha!

Good thing this DP was not on the set of 3:10 to YUMA.

Good one. :lol

Maybe Crowe could have him on his TV show....

You're not the only one who works professionally on sets who posts here by the way. I agree with you on the sound issue, although here in the U.S. actors, even if the sound is bad will not like to be stopped dead in a take, since they have this post sound thing out here called ADR. It's where actors go into a little booth and record their dialogue when airplanes or car horns or any noise is recorded during a take. It's done on most any and all T.V. and features. Bottom line is Bale is a ^^^^ and shouldn't have acted like a cry baby on set and treated a crew member like that, even if he is the DP.
I agree with you on the sound thing but in Asia here, we do not always have the luxury or time for ADR. It is always better to get it right on the set for us here than to fix it in post later. It is also the norm here to stop the camera immediately if something is wrong rather than waiting for the take to finish and then requesting a second take cause something was wrong with the sound.

Just to clarify - there are a few film/tv professionals here. Try not to be so condescending. mm,kay?
Sorry Dave if I gave the wrong meaning. I wasn't trying to talk anyone down.

I just don't like it when people who hasn't even been in an actual set or work as a real crew speak in defense of Bale.

I love his work but Bale's attitude is just condescending. Too many people here assumed the DP walk right in front of the camera. That's ridiculous. No one will do that in the middle of the take unless it's the reasons I stated before.

For the DP to do that, there must be eligible reasons that the director must have been ok with.

Bale can act but he also needs to remember that it is us that make him look good. What's the point of a great performance if the focus it out? Or the lighting unacceptable?

An associate producer for the forthcoming Terminator Salvation movie has defended Christian Bale's alleged on-set rant, insisting the actor was a "consummate professional" during filming.

A man said to be actor Bale can be heard angrily screaming and using profanity at the movie's director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, for distracting him during shooting by walking into his field of vision.

In the four-minute tirade, Bale reportedly shouts: "I'm trying to do a f%*king scene here and I'm going, 'Why the f#*k is Shane walking in there? What's he doing there?' Do you understand my mind is not in the scene if you're doing that?" The man later promises to "kick his ^^^^^king ass" before threatening to quit the film unless Hurlbut was fired.

However Bruce Franklin, an assistant director and associate producer on the fourth Terminator film, insists the star was only upset for a short period of time before his "moment" passed. Franklin tells E! Online, "If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove... It was the most emotional scene in the movie. And for him to get stopped in the middle of it - he is very intensely involved in his character. He didn't walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed."

Well, this article posted by Maulfan proves my point. The DP did not walk into the frame. The DP was just adjusting out of the frame.

So what if he is in Bale field of vision. This is acting for christ's sake. They are anywhere from 10+ (small budget) to 50+ or more (big budget) people on a set all looking at Bale. Why didn't he flip out on the director then? or the craftservice guy? Cause everyone will be looking at him from any position off the frame.

Cos the DP was behind Bryce (who Bale was looking at) and Bale could see him. Like he said, "ITS DISTRACTING"

I have to wonder, if the the situation were reversed (say, Bale kept accidentally messing with the lighting somehow) and Hurlbut lost it and verbally gave Bale the beatdown if some folks would be as quick to defend him. Methinks no.

Of course, if that were the case it wouldn't be nearly as sensational a story... but it doesn't change the point. People just don't like their heroes to be judged.

Have we established whether the DP is a cyborg? Because that would add some merit to the "method acting" defense. Maybe it's Shane Hurlbot?:bborg
