...they plan to picket the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con from 1:15 pm to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.

Really... only 45 minutes for protesting. Its like they're not even trying :huh

Aren't there rules against religious threads on this forum?

Yes, but I think I've mentioned it before - any way to call attention to these idiots so people can do whatever they can to destroy them and make sure they don't pollute the earth will be allowed.

I say that we make our own signs and join the protest and try to subvert it. Somebody should organize a flash mob for it.

I think it's because the Christian Comic Book panel starts @ 2:30

I know I'm going to catch some crap for this, but here it goes...

I agree with them on this subject... TO AN EXTENT. When you look at what they're saying about worshipping idols, you have to dig a bit deeper. The 1st commandment and its meaning (Luther's Small Catechism) talks about putting our fear, love and trust God above EVERYTHING. They probably see SDCC and the attendees as easy targets. In their eyes, it's simply thousands of people flocking to San Diego for this huge event based around collectibles, movies, video games, etc. They probably see it as a bunch of people spending millions of dollars every year on earthly things and a proportionately small amount going to a church or religious organization. They see that as putting all of these earthly thing before God, therefore committing idolatry.

I can't stand these people or the way they go about spreading their 'message', but I will say that they're well-versed in what the law states on free speech. They're actually extremely intelligent when it comes to 'book smarts', but they are indeed religious extremists and members of a hate group. They may call themselves Christians, but their words and actions say otherwise.

Ignoring them is your best bet. After years of protesting in front our church every Sunday morning, our congregation collectively agreed to flat out ignore them... we didn't say 'hello', didn't smile at them, debate with them, or even as much as make eye contact with them. Then one Sunday they weren't there. Or the next, or the one after that, or any since. Ignore them, quit fueling the fire, and they'll eventually move on.

I'm from Topeka and I've lived with this crap my entire life. Making your owns signs won't do a bit of good... neither will assaulting them, yelling back at them, arguing with them, trying to reason with them, etc.

They're set in their ways/beliefs and nothing that you or anyone else does will change that. JUST IGNORE THEM.

BTW...

Most of them are lawyers and know exactly what they can/can't say and do. They also videotape their protests and demonstrations, simply to have evidence for when things inevitably turn ugly.

If you're going to have some sort of counter-protest or demonstration, at least read up on the laws to know what you can/can't say or do.

Their existence makes a great argument for the moral superiority of the pursuit of material things. Batman, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and G.I.Joe do come before God (just like every other earthly thing). Every dollar that goes to Sideshow, or DC, or Marvel, or Lucasfilm, and not to a church is money that has gone to empower true human values, instead of supplicating human values at the feet of a jealous cosmic puppeteer whose only claim to fame is the fact that he has no tolerance for values other than his own (no matter which religion one considers) and that most of mankind's sins have been committed in the name of service to it.

But I agree that they should be ignored, unless someone can figure out how to bait them into committing an arrestable offense. Until protest permits are understood legally as a license to disturb the peace/commit disorderly conduct, and someone puts an end to them, ignoring tools like these (and tools like the G8 summit/Iraqi war protestors, etc.) you are going to have to deal with them ruining your day whenever they feel like doing it to you.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but your comment on a 'cosmic puppeteer' proves your ignorance when it comes to religion, especially Christianity.
