Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

Just for kicks, here are a couple of tough guys (put out by MonsterArts) that I put into a mini dio...brought back memories of the film made back in 1964. If anyone remembers, they made two different endings...one for Japanese film goers and one for the US...

Trying to remember this cause I haven't watched it in years, but does Godzilla win in the Japanese version and KK win in the US version? I guess I could just look it up, but I want to know if I'm right first. :lol

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

It's a myth..

Dual ending myth [edit]
For many years a popular myth has persisted that in the Japanese version of this film, Godzilla emerges as the winner. The myth originated in the pages of Spacemen magazine, a 1960s sister magazine to the influential publication Famous Monsters of Filmland. In an article about the film, it is incorrectly stated that there were two endings and "If you see King Kong vs Godzilla in Japan, Hong Kong or some Oriental sector of the world, Godzilla wins!"[51] The article was reprinted in various issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland in the years following such as issues 51, and 114. This bit of incorrect info would be accepted as fact and persist for decades, transcending the medium and into the mainstream. For example, decades later in the 1980s the myth was still going strong. The Genus III edition of the popular board game Trivial Pursuit had a question that asked "Who wins in the Japanese version of King Kong vs. Godzilla?", and states that the correct answer is "Godzilla". As well, through the years, this myth has been misreported by various members of the media,[52] and has been misreported by reputable news organizations such as The LA Times.[26] Since seeing the original Japanese-language versions of Godzilla movies was very hard to come by from a Western standpoint during this time period, it became easily believable.
However, as more Westerners were able to view the original version of the film (especially after its availability on home video during the late 1980s), and gain access to Japanese publications about the film, the myth was dispelled. There is only one ending of this film. Both versions of the film end the same way: Kong and Godzilla crash into the ocean, and Kong is the only monster to emerge and swims home. The only differences between the two endings of the film are extremely minor and trivial ones:
In the Japanese version, as Kong and Godzilla are fighting underwater, a very small earthquake occurs. In the American version, producer John Beck used stock footage of a violent earthquake from the film The Mysterians to make the climactic earthquake seem far more violent and destructive.
The dialogue is slightly different. In the Japanese version onlookers are speculating that Godzilla might be dead as they watch Kong swim home and speculate that it's possible he survived. In the American version, onlookers simply say, "Godzilla has disappeared without a trace" and newly shot scenes of reporter Eric Carter have him watching Kong swim home on a viewscreen and wishing him luck on his long journey home.
As the film ends and the screen fades to black, owari (the end) appears on screen. Godzilla's roar followed by Kong's is on the Japanese soundtrack. This was akin to the monsters' taking a bow or saying goodbye to the audience, as at this point the film is over. In the American version, only Kong's roar is present on the soundtrack.

Hey itchy...I really like your Eastwood figure, and your Coburn figure! Two things stand out to me in that Callahan's clothes are spot on! I like the scupt you used for him, but I like Coburn's even more! Is Coburn a Peter the Painter sculot?

Great post! I never knew that...but it still seems that Godzilla's roar at the end of the Japanese version (vs Kong's in the US version) gives the impression that Godzilla is alive and well...and do we trust Wikipedia? Someone on the Godzilla thread can verify for sure..

Hey Geronimo, he used the newest DID Steiner hs. I like that one a lot too.

Thanks DA...that sure is a food looking sculpt. Although its James Coburn, it kind of reminds me of a young looking Lee Marvin (as he looked in The Wild One). What do you think?

I think I really want Lee Marvin hs :lol Wouldn't it be great if a company just went all out and started making all the hollywood greats from the past. Also, I was on Peter the Painters thread and he made a fantastic young Wayne sculpt. Check it out.

Brilliant!!! Running, jumping, laughing, & just hanging out having a good time. I don't think I have come across a better presentation of photos capturing the Fab Four like this one in 1/6. Just a fantastic job Geronimo. I tip my hat to you sir. :duff

Hey DA, many thanks! I appreciate your comments! I don't know about brilliant, but I did have fun putting it together and that's the main thing. Getting them to jump by connecting them to the back wall was what I enjoyed the most...makes me think about wanting to make my Superman fly someday...:slap

I don't man, the way your able to bring your figures to life through pictures says a lot in my book. The story telling and lay out is some of the best I have seen and I really feel like I'm watching the movie. Just like how you got your figures to jump for that picture. Brilliant if you ask me. :wink1: :lol

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

Maybe not classic actors or tough guys [well, all of them anyway] but if Godzilla and the Beatles can get included:

What if Star Trek had been a film instead of a TV series:

Well, they all (with the exception of Roger) look pretty tough to me! I like all of them, and your Star Trek figures reminded me that the new movie premiered over this weekend...anyone seen it? Any good?

Your Roger Moore figure seems pretty relaxed with that raquet...I guess he would fall under classic actors, and not a tough guy (unless he started beating some one with it....:clap).

That's Robert [I Spy] Culp, not Roger Moore in the tennis scene. Culp played Kelly Robinson and a tennis pro/bum was his cover.

Of course! My mistake..! And Bill Cosby was his sidekick! Makes complete sense now, why he would have the raquet. Did you ever consider an Cosby figure to go with him?

I have one, but photobucket changed and I was lucky to get the Culp photo to upload. I'm still working on getting Cosby's added.

Yeah, I would love to see picture of Cosby as well!

That show had one of the coolest intros (with a silhouette of Culp crouching and shooting). I forgot that his cover was tennis. With both figures, you could make multiple dio's ...here"s a cool pic...

Re: Classic Actors & Tough Guys - Bogart, Cagney, Wayne, Eastwood, and others...

I plan on plenty of pix once i get everything figured out.
Interesting that you chose that pic. I've seen it all over the internet being used for I Spy and no one ever seems to notice/care that its reversed.
