I think Oklahoma clearly deserves to be #1 right now. I'd put Alabama at #2.

My Top 5:

Oklahoma
Alabama
LSU
Texas
Missouri

So if you throw out preseason rankings (which are ridiculous) and didn't rank teams until this Monday you'd say Oklahoma's body of work vs. Alabama's clearly puts them at #1?

Oklahoma:

8/30 Chattanooga 1-0 (0-0) W 57-2
9/06 Cincinnati 2-0 (0-0) W 52-26
9/13 @ Washington 3-0 (0-0) W 55-14
9/27 No. 24 TCU 4-0 (0-0) W 35-10

Alabama:

8/30 @ No. 9 Clemson 1-0 (0-0) W 34-10
9/06 Tulane 2-0 (0-0) W 20-6
9/13 Western Kentucky 3-0 (0-0) W 41-7
9/20 @ Arkansas 4-0 (1-0) W 49-14
9/27 @ No. 3 Georgia 5-0 (2-0) W 41-30

Can't believe Florida lost, didn't see that coming.

If Alabama and Nick Saban are #1, I'm going to have to kill myself.

The stadium was rocking!!! That must have been a great time!! I just talked to my buddy who was at the game and he didn't have much a voice left.

You're gonna have Alabama jump 6 spots? They did a great job but I don't think they get to jump that many spots.

Okla
LSU
MU
Alabama
Texas

Yes. Just because someone is ranked higher in preseason doesn't mean they deserve it. That's the only reason Alabama won't be #1 is because of preseason rankings. If you look at the schedules between Alabama and Oklahoma it's not even close who deserves to be #1.

It's just as silly to base rankings solely on schedules as well, though. Have you even watched Oklahoma play? They are definitely legit, no matter who their competition has been so far. They have what may be the most explosive offense in college football with a Heisman candidate at the helm and a stout defense. They deserve their #1 ranking until they show otherwise. I have Alabama as a close #2 for now.

OU is very good. They could very easily win the whole thing this year. You can't knock them really for who they play but watch how they play that tells you more than anything.

well, nebraska shot themselves in the foot and ruined any legitimate chance of making a comeback. rest assured, josh, they'll be ready for mizzou next week :D

Just looked at the new USA today poll and I guess me and the voters where on the same page. :rotfl

No I didn't look before I posted my rankings. :p

If they give up 35 to a VTech who doesn't have the O that MU does I feel even better about next week. :)

How in the world is that silly? You do know how important strength of schedule is in rankings don't you? And yes I've watched Oklahoma play, they are one of my favorite teams, that doesn't make them deserving. By your rankings system they could play high school teams but as long as they win they should be #1, why, because they started off ranked higher? Explosive offenses, team numbers, stout defense all is a direct correlation to who you play, so yes, who you play is extremely important, it's the only reason USC vaulted over UGA at the beginning of the year. It's far from silly. It's absolutely absurd to say a team is more deserving because before they even played a game they were asigned a number higher than the other team while disregarding the competition they've played.

well, the first 9 were freebies and you guys are coming off a bye week, so don't go counting those chicks before they hatch.

I'm not but I'm just less worried about the game than I was. As far as coming off the bye week that just means we had more time to work on what we needed to do. MU if they do what they should will win. They're the better team, ranked higher, and on a hell of a roll. They should win its up to Neb to change that.

Could be but I tend trust the guys who are in the trenches more than the writers. Just my experience as a coach says that.

I tend to go the opposite with that one. I'd trust coaches when talking about football strategy but not when voting, hell most of them don't even watch the games of the teams they're voting on because they're coaching their own. I wouldn't really equate that to being in the trenches. There's no doubt they are trying to jockey for position in polls to help their own cause and their conference's cause. Coaches use polls as another strategy to their gameplans. It helps their strength of schedule which in turn helps their BCS standings, it helps motivate their teams, and it helps the overall appearance of their conferences.
