I tend to go the opposite with that one. I'd trust coaches when talking about football strategy but not when voting, hell most of them don't even watch the games of the teams they're voting on because they're coaching their own. I wouldn't really equate that to being in the trenches. There's no doubt they are trying to jockey for position in polls to help their own cause and their conference's cause. Coaches use polls as another strategy to their gameplans. It helps their strength of schedule which in turn helps their BCS standings, it helps motivate their teams, and it helps the overall appearance of their conferences.

Of course you use it to your advantage. You'd be a freaking moron if you didn't. Writers are about as objective as Fox news. :lol In other words they're not.

As far as equating it to being in the trenches I have no problem equating it to that. I'm going to assume you mean don't use a war reference in sports.

I agree, which is why I was saying I don't put as much weight in their polls.

No I know what you mean by in trenches, I was just saying the coaches aren't really in any trench other than their own. They can't watch an entire game and give an honest vote the majority of the time because they are busy coaching their own teams.

Both polls are a little skewed but like I said I just trust the coaches a bit more.

If you want to be a major college coach you better know whats going on and who's what.

I've been a college assistant coach, and I can promise you the only team you're worried about is the one coming up next.

I'm sure its the same at the HS level but you do know what the other teams around you are doing or how good they are. At least thats how most good head coaches have been that I've been around.

LOL...need another team to do what your boys from stoolwater can't do?

Just waiting for the eventual OU failing that happens every year. My boys have done it several times before, and have a great shot this year. Oklahoma States offense is rolling. Top rushing in country.

Defense is soft, but they just need to outscore people :lol

'Bama at 2 is impressive.

Yeah, ONLY several times and as many times as they have played....thats sad. (BTW it's OU 79-16-7 :lol )

Hmmmm, I don't recall them failing in 2000.

TCU had the top Defense in the country and what did that get them?

Boomer Sooner!

I think Alabama will roll over LSU if they play like they did tonight. The quarterback play at LSU has been horrible and the only shot they have is if their defense wins it for them.

Watch your mouth.:lol Alabama WILL NOT win on LSU's field. And how has LSU's QB play been horrible?? Versus Auburn, Lee throws a pick 6, then gains his composure to win the game. He had 1 INT and 2 TDs to win the game.

Versus Miss St, Lee was 18 of 26 for 261 yds, 2 TDs and 1 INT. I would say those are decent, not horrible, numbers for a QB who is starting his first game.

I am in agreement though that it will be LSU Defense that wins the game....and the SEC West Championship.

How in the world is that silly? You do know how important strength of schedule is in rankings don't you? And yes I've watched Oklahoma play, they are one of my favorite teams, that doesn't make them deserving. By your rankings system they could play high school teams but as long as they win they should be #1, why, because they started off ranked higher? Explosive offenses, team numbers, stout defense all is a direct correlation to who you play, so yes, who you play is extremely important, it's the only reason USC vaulted over UGA at the beginning of the year. It's far from silly. It's absolutely absurd to say a team is more deserving because before they even played a game they were asigned a number higher than the other team while disregarding the competition they've played.

Strenght of Schedule has no bearing on the BCS Rankings and those are the only rankings that mean anything at the end of the year. SOS was eliminated from the equation 2 or 3 years ago....that's how tOSU kept getting in the BCS Championship Game.:lol

In terms of the computer rankings it's still in there, it's just asked that the humans do the calculations now instead of the computer doing it. And when knowledgable humans are voting it'll reflect in their voting in the polls as well.

edit: Also don't forget that the Sagarin ratings poll is one of the 6 that go into the computer calculations.

Big Game Bob CANNOT win the Big Game....PERIOD.

LOL..Thats the dumbest statement I have heard here in a while. He did in 2000.
You think LSU can beat OU right now? Not a chance in hell. Les Miles can't beat OU is more like it. You don't have Saban anymore.

I love Oklahoma, and Bob Stoops even more. I wear my OU hat almost everyday but LSU could certainly beat them right now. I'm still not sold on LSU's QB, but OU has not had a tough opponent yet. You can make an arguement for TCU(not a very realistic one when looking who they've played thus far), but they're nowhere near as good as LSU would be. It would be a great game but it could go either way right now and as the year grows on and LSU's QB gets better I'd say OU would have a tough time with LSU. LSU's defense looks like last years New England Patriots.

True, he won it in 2000, but other than that Cotton win, he has been beat in the rest of the bowl games.

Miles can beat UO, he did with twice with OSU. And LSU has a much more strout D than OSU could ever dream of.

But first the Gooners have to get there. There is lots of football let and anything can and will happen along the way. There are some very very good offensive teams in the B12 this year.

For those wondering about the BCS rankings that will come out on Oct. 19th. Here's an early look at a top ten based on computer calculations through last week that will be 1 of the 6 computations that go into the BCS.

1. Alabama
2. Utah
3. LSU
4. Boise State
5. Oklahoma
6. USC
7. Vanderbilt
8. UGA
9. Penn State
10. Virginia Tech

Wait, through last week? Or were these updated after the weekend? If so, #2, #4, #7, and UGA at #8 show that computers can be as retarded as people. :lol

I don't think so. OU's new no huddle offense would give LSU fits. Plus, they can run multiple offensive sets with the personnel they have on the field, which creates matchup problems for any defense. OU would score on LSU a few times...I'd say 28-35 points. The question is...can LSU score on OU's D. LSU's offense doesn't impress me in the least....and they wouldn't keep up with OU's scoring.

Wrong! what about the Rose and Holiday Bowl? But they have had problems getting prepared for bowl games recently. But, big games also are Conference championship games. He doesn't seem to have a problem winning those. They will get the bowl thing straightened out.

I'll take Big game Bob as a coach over Less Miles any day.
