Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Left Shoulder Pad

Thanks galactiboy!:wave

Here is Dredd's helmet with the relief details from yesterday all thinned out and cleaned. And I added the top details. Once that cures and is cleaned - I can add the crest on the front and should be done.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Painted Left Shoulder Pad

I made Dredd's helmet as snug fitting as possible - leaving enough room in the front to install the visor. Here is a test image superimposing a visor over the helmet.

NOTE: The little outcrop that the crest is mounted onto is a little big in these pics. That's because I have to wait for it to cure then I can refine it down to the right size.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Removable Helmet Sculpt

This is the final Dredd helmet all cleaned up and with the crest added. I further thinned out everything - especially the height of the outcrop that the crest is mounted on. The inside clearance around the head is less than 1/8 inch. And the thickness of the helmet "wall" is 1/8 inch. So the size of the helmet in relation to the body should be just about right.

Here's few pics of the helmet on Dredd. I purposely chose to use this crap Dragon HS because it is slightly larger than I expect Urban's head to be - and the sculpt has a large nose - allowing me to accurate judge where the bottom of the visor needs to be - in relation to where the eyes are (through the side openings of the "X" in the middle of the visor.

Dredd's helmet all primed and ready to paint. During the priming step is when you know if you haven't done a proper job of cleaning and smoothening your sculpt surface. If you did a good job - the primer coat accentuates it. If you did a bad job - the primer coat will accentuate that too lol.

Amazing! This just keeps getting better and better.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Final Removable Helmet Sculpt

I just finished making the visor for Dredd's helmet. I have too tiny catches on the inside wall of the helmet on the left and right of the "fake" eyes. The visor is a thin piece of clear plastic that I cut from the bubble display package of these headphones I recently bought. I painted the inside surface and kept the outside of the visor untouched. You bend the visor and carefully place it up into place. When you release it - the plastic will want to straighten out and get it's side edges caught in the catches holding the visor pretty solidly in place.

I also painted the helmet with the black undercoat. Dredd's looking more and more intimidating as I near completion.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Visor for Dredd's helmet

The I painted the inside surface of the visor with a dark navy mixed with a little silver (acrylic paint). So depending on how the light catches the visor - you see a bluish tint like in the movie. You can see it the clearest in the center pic below.

Wow, helmet is fantastic! But I understant it well, that you can't see througt visor? But it looks really cool, how it change colour from different angles! That was fantastic idea! And you will change somehow headsculpt or you will use this one for final?

Thanks elar! I actually thinned out the acrylic paint to try to make the visor a little bit transparent. In the movie - you can see Dredd's eyes through the visor at certain lighting angles. But on such a small figure - you can hardly notice.

The headsculpt here is temporary. The nose is too big and the chin is too weak. I plan to sculpt two Karl Urban heads with this set.

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Visor for Dredd's helmet

Wow. The level of detail is unreal. Man, each and every piece of yours is done from scratch.

Now this is an Ultimate commission! :bow

Re: UPDATED WIP Custom Dredd 3D Judge Dredd Figure - Visor for Dredd's helmet

Yeah, I know that we can see eye, that is why I asked you;) And two? One for helmet and one without? And you will all parts then moulded and cast it for other two figures, or make it again from scratch?
