How should we divide the custom sales from the custom show-off threads?

IMO there is nothing wrong with a new thread being created in the "show off" thread for finished work. I have NO PROBLEM seeing people show off all their purchased customs.

My problem is I don't want to read about the business aspect of it all. I don't think I need to know who wants a figure, how many people are buying it, when its going to ship, etc. I would stay out of that area entirely.

Well then I get that, and that makes total sense to me in comparison to the other arguements like threads being buried in pg.2 or w.e. :duff

I'm just saying if we do go that way of taking up bandwidth with extra threads anyway, I'd rather have the personal galleries back, dunno if you remember them but they were great.

I thought the galleries were great too, but I don't know anything about server space of pictures vs threads and all of that.

This may sound stupid, but is there some way to have some kind of folder structure? so one thread... you click it and it breaks down into more threads? Like:

Someone's custom something

Marker - yeah... it may. It just seems like everyone is pretty opinionated on this topic, and no matter what changes take place (if any), some people will be upset.

And thanks! NG is still my fav NES game of all time!
I think that may be a bit too complicated Tim.

Nice avatar btw :wink1:

Please admin, leave the forum as is, enough with the change. Custom section is great as is, no disrespect to guys like elvis who post original stuff, but there won't be as much traffic as it is now if you change it.

Same as with forum's theme, big change and i'm still on the old one :)

I have always tried to keep commerce out of my show off thread. I use links in it to my sales thread in the Commerce section and just post pics and talk about process and painting tips, etc.

I actually think three forums makes sense: pro-painting, pro-sculpting, general show-off. And then use the stickies on top to be a jumping off place for announcements in the two commerce type threads.

Just my 2 cents. :)

That's a great idea! And customizers could share their techniques and knowledge in each forum.

The board has changed, the vibe is different, and the good ol' days are gone. Best to just accept. Splitting the forum isn't going to change that.

The board only changed because authority wasn't firm enough or were too lenient and nice. Things slip and slip until it's out of control. Or they feel they can do whatever they want and push the boundaries so the mods wont notice.

Back in mid 2008 it was a much nicer friendly get on place. Heck even I wasn't the type of person I am now back then due to all the stuff I've had to read. I was a very tolerant excited positive person on the board.

What on earth are you talking about!

What's slipping? What's out of control?

Who is doing whatever they want and pushing these so called boundaries?

Seems to me that existing, one-off customs folks are selling could be sold in the marketplace just like anything else as they are. But threads devoted to custom projects that are also for sale would make sense in their own sub-forum. I would probably like it better as a sub-forum to the custom section since those are really as much (or more) discussion than actual sales talk anyway, and so it would seem a better fit there than the commerce section--where discussion seems generally frowned upon (unless you are Skiman).

So if there's a seperate marketplace here in Customs - there could be a variety of prefixes for threads - "INT:" for Interest, "FS-complete" (or something like that) for full figures or sets and "FS-parts" for heads, socks, ties, whatever. And then FA for ebay auctions.

Sounds cool to me. "FS-Full Set", maybe ?

I just found that other thread that seems to be what started all this so I'll post what I just posted there in here.

To be 100% honest, and I'm sure I'm not alone, and I'm sure I'll get some flack for this, but the only reason I come on the customs board is to see who's making something awesome that I want to own. The only reason I ever click on anyone's experemintal postings of what they are working on currently is because it's mixed in with the stuff I'm here for. Move the offerings section to another sub forum and I'd never see anyones work unless it's for sale and I'm interested. Like I said though, I'm sure a lot still would, but I'm sure I'm also not alone, so it sort of defeats the purpose of having your work be seen if there's a mass exodus.

:goodpost:
My sentiments exactly.
Main reason why I check customs also. I wanna see what someone has cooked up with to add to my collection. Eventhough I cant afford most of them. Lol.
I think the best part of going to Custom section also is seeing its progress from interest, to proto, to finally showing off the final piece. That's the whole beauty and fun of it. I dont wanna have to go click on separate threads to see this. The less clusterF...the better.
Part of the reason I like this site is the ease to navigate. If I want to look at marvel, go to marvel. DC, go to DC section, etc.

But I think it would be pointless separating what is probably the best thread in this forum.
If it aint broke...dont...aaaah, you get the idea.

Flack given.:slap
So you don't want to see something cool unless you can own it? You never go to museums, or look at expensive stuff in a store?

I find this attitude a little depressing and antithetical to the point of this part of the forum. The customs section was never intended as a marketplace but where custom artists could show off their work and people could share tips and tricks on creating something on their own.

I'm afraid this attitude won't come into play when making the decision on how to split it up - it's too bad that people who are only shopping for parts will never see some great one of a kind customs. :monkey2

I like the idea of splitting up the section. In theory.

However, I have a feeling both sections will just end up becoming mostly duplicate.

I foresee customs threads used as advertisements for stuff being sold in the market section...with great pictures and a last line that reads "If you like it I'm selling this in the market section".
