Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

WOW! Very nice. Is that the Medicom Jack? Nice, but not Jabba price nice (to me anyway). Awesome repaint. Looks just like Jack now. He has his Sparrow tattoo, but no "P" scar from Beckett?

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Great good Josh. He looks much more natural. And the costume looks awesome, how much did you drop on this guy?

Good luck trying to paint that tat with a fine-tipped brush! You'd probably want to darw it with a light pencil and then ink it with a .1 mm pen.

I believe the tat is already printed on the Medicom figure, the "P" scar is what needs to be added

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Sorry to go so long without a response to this Josh, but WOWSA MAN!
You makin' me all misty eyed here! :D
But really, you are doing a great redo on this Jack Sparrow bro!
Love it.
I find it interesting that on the tat that's supplied with the figure, I assume it is at any rate, that it is the "real" one Johnny got with the sparrow pointing towards him, rather than away like in the first Pirates movie... The one in the movie was painted on, and after Johnny's son was born, he had a real one put there with the bird towards him. That's the tat in the second and third flicks now...

But, either way Your figure rocks my friend!
Terrific work!

Thanks Les! You should see this Obi I'm working on for Paul (pjam).... it's coming along fantastically. I can't wait to show it off.... :lol

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Wow man, nice work on the Sparrow... really shows off how cool the Medicom figure is, but the dissapointment of the sub-par paint they do.

Also to echo what King said the Kurgan looks fantastic, I really love the amount of detail in the paint. Looks excellent!!!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks a lot GB.... It means a lot to me. Kurgan was something I wanted to wait until I could do him justice. And I think it did just that. Now I wish I could repaint that Anakin.... I could do so much better now...:monkey2

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Yeah Deke, he's got like 5 layers of color texturing in the beard, we went back and forth a bit on it... I'm sure he can describe it much better than i can but basically he repainted the hair eyebrows and beard to lighter shades of brown and blonde... and then we took a look at it and it was really good, but then I wanted more and asked him to use/blend reddish blonde highlight tints over that...

Josh said he used a technique he learned from the great Figuremaster Les to pop the beard with layers of blonde and reddish blonde tones and he hit it out of the park...

Anyway, Josh clear-sealed the head tonight and will post a few more pics tomorrow... he told me the pics he took today don't really capture the beard color texturing and it looks tons better in person...

Thanks Josh, I know it was very stressfull and challenging for you but you did a great job bro.. and you were a pleasure to work with!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

You did an amazing job on Ps' Obi Wan Josh. I think its perfect. Literally, perfect!!!!:bow

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Thanks everyone!! It was stressful as Hell and I have a little less hair now for it.... but overall it was a nice experience. Paul kept me leveled and pushed me at every step to get the best work possible. And for that, half of this praise goes to him! :lol

I started with a red base, losing a lot of that dark brown to aid in shading it with his cheek. And then I added a blondish red drybrushed atop that, followed with another layer of almost pure blonde. Turned out that it was just too blonde at that moment, with just not enough to make it pop...

So using a technique from Les, I did a red wash on the beard... wiping with my fingers as he explained... And it really deepened the color and blended it very nicely. This was followed by another simple layer or blondish red to get even more depth. It was nearly perfect then, but we went over that a tiny bit more to add a few more layers.... and finally the clearcoat was added and that was that.

I've learned most of all that Obi's beard is tough to get right. In most pics it looked almost reddish brown, but if light caught it.... it looked almost blonde. So I had to do so tricky painting to try and capture both looks to try and get it to look right. It was hard.... but at least it's finished now.... :lol

Here it is with the flash so that you can see some of the layering.... even then it's washed out a little.... but it's there....

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Ok.... I know it's late... but an accident with a customer's Han paintjob forced me to have to give up the head on my Han... so I repainted the "accident" head and now have some new work to show off....

Here he is guys....

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Damn dude... not sure what the "accident" was, but like Bob Ross says it must have been a "happy accident" becaue the paint job looks awesome!!!

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

It was a "happy accident" but bittersweet as well. I never like a deal to go wrong, and that being because of a bad decision on my part... just makes it worse. Thankfully, the customer was very accepting of the issue and worked with me on a solution...

Thank God... :D

Re: DarkArtist's Creations of DOOM!

Josh, I'd pay you to repaint my Solo and Obi-Wan. You da man!
