It occurse to me, Darren, that you might want to go back and resculpt a few of these amazing heads with the promethiius body in mind. Legolas and Anakin would do particularly well on the new body...
Maybe. Although I appreciate the posing choices given by the double joint system, for me nothing beats the realism of a well sculpted solid neck. I doubt these would look as realistic as they do if they had the 'head on a stick' syndrome.
Maybe one day... lol
Nice snaps mate. How do you get that dry mud look on your Aragorn? Your paint jobs are amazing, and the eyes are so clean. I've seen many customizers add the eyelashes, but yours is by far the best.
the dry mud was a mixture of sandpaper (all over the coat), followed by a thin wash of dirty pale mud colour (yellow ochre, plus various shades of brown and grey). The thin wash lightens the colour of the coat, and makes it a little less shiny. Also adds some age.
After that it was a case of painting, flicking (finger flicking over stiff bristles etc) and dropping various dirt and mud shades in different ways and different layers, to try and create a natural look of wear and tear, as if he was living in the coat. I always refer back to images of the real clothing and screen caps from the movies to get an idea of how mud builds up... where... in what patterns... and what shades. (wet mud at the bottom is usually darker for example than lighter mud that has splashed higher up and dried)
Thanks for the comment about the eyes!
those pictures are awesome. I'll email you some of the aragorn you did for me. i just haven't had the chance yet.
can't wait to see your own pics!
INSPIRING!
thanks Les....
(although I still want to see how you'll best it, hurry up will ya! lol)
AMAZING work there. I am so wanting an Arnie head from you but I know your so jammed. Just been checking the Conan thread and its got me wanting to really have a go at this. Your head would be spot on.
Dean
Thanks Dean. You're right, i'm horrendously backlogged at the moment. People who get in touch now are being told there's a waiting list of around 6 - 7 months! Thankfully I'm painting a little faster at the moment.. so hopefully I'll bring that back down.
I had trouble with the Arnie heads. I'd spent a month or two making a whole bunch of heads (only had time to do one a day or so) and ignoring the trouble I had with bubbles in the resin... I've since found out that on most of them for some reason primer won't stick to the heads. It just crackles and flakes off. I don't know if there was something wrong with the resin.... but I'm glad I found it BEFORE people started getting the faulty ones. But either way I'm about to send off to have some made FOR me. Will take a month or two... and I'll try to make a few more heads in the meantime for people already waiting... but eventually I'll have a fresh batch, so if you're still wanting one then feel free to get in touch. (or send me a pm and I'll add your name to the list)
Wow! Are all those Anakin heads spoken for? I would love one!!!
If available, can you let me know???
yeah, those heads were for people who had ordered them quite a while ago, sorry. If you want to add your name to the waiting list though feel free to pm me and i'll hook you up
Thanks to everyone who made lovely comments about my figures, it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Right now I'm off to answer the 14 emails I've received in the last 2 days
and some pm's on here... and then I'm packing up heads and sending things out
That's the part I love
