Darren!

Congrats! Old Ben looks soooo good. Someone said it best earlier, you really know how to make these pieces come to life. Thanks for posting the detail pictures... such an inspiration.

I forget, do you use a dry brush technique? Are you using only acrylics or do you use pastels and oils?

Great to have you back and doing such phenominal work. The customs board is really what keep me coming back to Sideshow Freaks again and again.

Happy Birthday for tommorow Darren :banana:banana

Any more news on the arnie heads yet?

Looks like I've found my commission job for you! WOW!

Absolutely brilliant work with Old Ben! I have to quote a line from The Omega Man here for you Darren:

ARE YOU GOD!?

Well, you've certainly brought this figure to life :)

ok I just managed to take a few clearer shots with my own cam, most with the flash, so they're harsh... but they'll let you see all the detail (and flaws?) .....these are not intended to be artistic display photos.... just raw detail.

I'm aware that the clothes need weathering, and the chest plate putting in... but that I can do eventually..this is all just about showing the head.

As for the blood, I painted the head, varnished it, matt dullcoted it, then painted the endoskeleton parts with gloss, when they was dry I went over the blood with the same gloss, dotting it around in various places where I thought it would still look wet... leaving it dry where I wanted it to look dried on. I think it worked (never painted blood before, lol...be nice)

the regular heads are being done as we speak, but the battle damaged ones won't be ready for a little while.... so you'll have to bear with me if you wanted those. (I love it though... so if it was battle damaged you were after... I think they're worth waiting a little while for)

....although I would say that wouldnt i :rotfl

(praise to Andy Bergholtz once again for his amazing base sculpt!) :bow

in the new year, once I'm done with my upcoming commissions, i'll be moving onto...

T-1000.gif

(including the 'shot through the head' version, and the 'split down the middle' version)

then after that....

I've also just been asked to do a Christopher Reeve.... so we'll have to see how that goes. Now... where's that energy drink.....

do you still have plans to move onto these eventually Darren ?.
I know it wouldn't be soon but we so need a 1/6 T2 John Connor. :rock

holy diaorrhea squitting monkey pants!!! darren dug up alec guinness' body and used a head shrinker on him!!! not cool beans, dude. not cool beans at all.

that is one seriously amazing paintjob. i may have to get on that before the deadline. it's unbelievable.

Good lord, just when you think these figures are the greatest thing since sliced bread, you go and make them look almost alive!!!!
Y'know, if I wouldn't have a headless figure on my shelves for months, I'd send you every frickin sideshow sculpt for repainting!!!!
Maybe while you are in the states I could kidnap you and keep you locked up untill all my figs have been repainted! I live in Florida, so Jane would have plenty to do while you are slaving away! Tempting? Hmmmm? Hmmmm?

keep your figures.... give me about a year to get my schedule completed then i'll do them for you :lol

oh, and as for the kidnapping.... its tempting... but i think the travelling takes importance... sorry, lol

Darren!

thanks! I use just acrylics, painting, washes and dry brushing. a mix of all techniques basically. Anything that I think needs to be done to get whatever effect I'm after. I've never used oils or pastels though... maybe when I get bored with acrylics, or if I decide i'm not good enough one day I'll try something different... but for now, this is my method!

Happy Birthday for tommorow Darren

Really nice paintwork on Old Ben. I think thats the best repaint of him I have seen.

well that's certainly a compliment, there have been some great repaints of him on here. Thanks!!

i think thats maybe the best paintjob ive seen!

ok... now that's even MORE of a compliment. Not sure it's entirely accurate.... but what the hell, I'll accept it in the spirt of kindness which it's meant! Thank you kind sir! :bow :bow :bow

Thats cool Darren as always.

By the looks of that old ben and the paints ive had in the past the longer i wait the better you get at painting so ist win win for me :-D lol

That 1/6 john connor would look so cool next to my arnie btw

wow I don't think my thread has ever been so far down the list before :lol

I suppose that's what happens when I'm struggling to keep up with work, planning wedding details, sorting out honeymoon stuff... and with the HUGE influx of custom sculpts and figures that have appeared here lately :rock

gotta love this place

no news here though really... I just bought a new (well.. old, second hand) lens for my camera, for the honeymoon. No point in going across the states and not being able to zoom in as much as I want to.

Just connected it to my camera and turned around on my chair and pointed it at Arnie. Gets a nice close zoom, this is about six feet away I think... looks good. This lens will be a nice addition to my old lens while we're travelling :rock
