Darth Maul 12" Image Thread

I dunno i actually like the silver, and i never even realized it wasn't accurate, but it fits IMO. Breaks up all the black and makes it more interesting. It wouldnt be hard to paint them black but eh why mess with a good thing.

Here's some more pics, trying out poses from promo pics and stuff i could dig up.

The third one may be the pose i end up displaying him with, we'll see.

How'd you get the draping fabric to "blow" like that in the second picture? Hairblower?

Actually they are pretty stiff, so its mroe just flipping them up and they tend to stay. Just try pulling them out and the edges upward, and see if they stay, thats all i did.

Dave seemed to do it in his RS pics, so i wanted to try and see if i could too and it wasn't all that hard, the fabric works really well for it, like they were designed to be action oriented heh.

Yeah, me neither...but now that I have its buggin' me. Every picture I see now is wrong, horribly wrong.

I like to have things as accurate as possible, so now I have the dilemma of choosing to keep it as is -- because they do look cool -- OR brushing them lightly with black paint so they will be accurate.

These are the big decisions I worry about.

Its like I did. In hand you could barley tell he had a mustache mouth. But in that large pix I took it was very noticeable and was driving me F'n crazy. So I fixed and I feel much better.

I say you paint over them and call it a day.

I might. I'll just have to see if it keeps buggin' me. Sometimes when I get away from these things my obsessive nature cools down. I do kinda like keeping these figures "as is"... unless its really screaming at me, like with Aragorn's beard.

So I just noticed this...where are the "silver buttons" on Maul's "belt"?

One of the silver "buttons" on my Maul was tweaked, and it suddenly hit me -- I don't remember these here.

I checked all my reference, and not one picture has those silver buttons on Maul's belt, not even the museum costume. If you look real close, you can see little, tiny black "buttons" on his belt, but they are not large nor silver.

Now, for you customizers who want accuracy -- will you remove them/paint them black or leave 'em be?

Now it's gonna bug me, too... This is a pickle. While I like the idea of messing with the figures, I tend not to do so unless I can really justify doing it.

I'm right there with ya. Maybe I'll just brush a little black paint -- faint enough for the shine to still come through but still darker like the actual Maul. Happy medium.

Can't you just take the "Maul" layer in photoshop and resize it? That's what I do. Just resize it smaller before you 'move' it into the photo. Or take my photo and just place your Maul over mine -- my picture is 600 pixels high so its a decent size to work with.

OR, better yet, do a Google search for "Theed Hangar" and you will find the picture I used. Its huge.

I did use the picture you used heh, it was big but not big enough to have maul be big and look the right size as you can see. I couldnt just resize him cause i'd already closed everything out when i saved the final pic so i just had to go back and redo it heh.

Looks better, very cool. Your shots are so good you should add backgrounds all the time. The only 2 reasons I always use my dumb kitchen are because the light is best there all day and because its kind of become my ID signature.

So here's some news: I don't know if anyone has done this yet but I just pulled Obi and Qui-Gon out and sheesh Maul is small. He's much more relative to Aragorn -- apparently SS's new scale size. I hope SS keeps with this new size -- its much better in proportion and looks better with other figures like Dragon and Hot Toys. I'll take some pictures tomorrow with Maul, Jinn and Kenobi and you'll see.

Also, I pulled the Hasbro Maul out. He's really bloated and thick looking next to his new updated counterpart. The Hasbro Maul kinda looks like Neander-Maul.

excellent pics though, and Magnuz? that may be what I end up doing to mine... that alteration you made makes it look SO much more like the Maul i remember in the promotional pics in the run up to Episode 1 coming out. Looks perfect!

...I may do the eyes though...... but only may,. lol. seriously, this figure looks soooo effing good.

right... now leave me alone my new resin and silicone just turned up, lol. things to do.
