Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

MoS, featuring the world's most iconic superhero, made less than the likes of Deadpool and GoTG. BvS, which should have been one of the biggest superhero movies of all time, made a lot less than some of Batman's solo films, not to mention its nearest rival.

None of that really matters. WB/DC don't really care about comparisons. They care about their bottom line first and foremost, and so far they've been doing VERY well money wise.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Man of Steel doubled it's budget at the box office (got really close to a triple) and BvS did triple its budget at the box office and almost made it to 1 bil.

If that's not killing it at the box office then what is?

BvS : Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic: $330,360,194 37.9%
Foreign: $542,302,437 62.1%
Worldwide: $872,662,631

Ummmm... That's awfully far away from $1 billion. $127,337,369 to be exact. I could sure use $127mil. And as far as "profit" the total cost was huge. "This report claims that the total budget (BvS), including marketing costs, is now north of $400 million, nearly twice what Man of Steel cost to make. If these budget figures are accurate, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will now have to make at least $1 billion worldwide to be considered a hit." from MovieWeb. So if the total budget was $400 and it made $872, that's $472mil with which anywhere from 40%- 50% of that goes to the Theatres.. So it made best case a "profit" of $300. That's not even enough to finance the JL movie.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I think that if WB released the UE of BvS in theaters and didn't spoil that WW would appear in costume and DD would appear at all that it would have easily made over a billion, maybe even 1.5 to 2 billion.

I think the improvements would have had to have gone a lot further than that, but I do agree that it could've been making seriously big money if they'd have done things differently.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

DC should have borrowed Deadpool from Marvel. That would have pushed them over the $1 Billion mark.

I think you've got that backward. Letting general audiences know such and such a character (or characters) is in a film should only increase attendance. Would Civil War had done as well if they didn't Spoil Spider-man beforehand? Will Rouge One do well if they don't spoil Vader beforehand? We'll never know, but they'll certainly increase viewers. Spidey sells tickets. Vader sells tickets. The Joker sells tickets - which despite his reported very small role, is why he's central to the marketing of SS. Keeping major characters secret won't help a box office any, if anything it will decrease its potential earnings.

I think they totally could have acted liked WW would just be another "Flash." Appearing in a cameo or two in street clothes. They could have just stayed the course and presented the film as nothing but Superman vs. Batman and then have people **** themselves on opening day when Doomsday showed up. Then **** themselves again not only when WW showed up in costume, but in such a dramatic fashion as she entered the fight. I could easily people buzzing off of that to the tune of 2 to 4 viewings each just to relive that amazement.

Agreed. I think the film probably shouldn't have crammed Wonder Woman and Doomsday in there at all but I can't imagine that revealing them in the trailers damaged the box office take. Any shortfall in earnings is because it just wasn't a 'multiple-viewings' film for enough people.

Certainly wouldn't have hurt to keep a few things under wraps. I know I would've seen it two or three times had I enjoyed it, instead of just the once.

Daredevil appearing would have been a real coup. Affleck could have acted against himself!

Yep. There was no indication from the Jurassic World trailers that the iconic T-Rex would be back and her surprise entry into the final fight brought the house down. WW should have been the "T-Rex" of BvS.

$127,337,369 isn't a lot in terms for movie earnings. That's why I said 'almost made it' and not 'very close'. It did almost make it to 1 bil. It was about 87% of the way there.

Let's say all your numbers are 100% accurate, an excess of 300 million is all that matters to WB. That's just for the film, not taking into account the profit they made off of home media & licensing fees for toys, shirts, etc.

Why are you talking about JL? WB already had the money to finance that film. They aren't living paycheck to paycheck with their films' profits to finance their future films. So BvS's profits really doesn't have anything to do with JL.

But really at the end of it all...none of what you said has anything to do with the original point of my comment. These movies are profitable. VERY profitable. They're not limping across the finish line (Ghostbusters) by any stretch of the imagination. That's why I said I don't understand all the doom and gloom surrounding the future of DC films being made. They're making more than enough money for them to continue to be produced.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Back from my screening.

Well i didnt like it.
And i dont think its a good movie either.

I like the dc movie universe, the tone here is to my liking.
Its realistic, with cool production design.
But the story told wow What a lazy mess.

There is zéro build up, your basically in the climax 20 mins in and then its uninspired action.
I hope there is an extended cut because its really rushing and rushing for nothing.
Yeah What could have saved it for me is the direction but Ayer does a poor job, nothing is epic or iconic.
You dont care for the characters coz yu never get to really know them or see their team get really together and bond.
Sometimes its really stupid, characters explaining plot points 10 times, magic that transformes men into monsters but cant open a suitcase...
The humor is ok but its not subtle and mostly are expected punchlines.
Oh and the joker is basically a Guest star.
He is introduced like anybody.
Same thing with a lot of characters lol its really laughable.

And a big **** yu to all the ******* haters and stupid fanboys who trashed so much BVS (mostly before seeing it) that now they Will get Marvel redux. Stay till the end you Will understand.
Stupid *******s who cant respect the fact that trying to do something different should be encouraged and not just pissed on.
Liking it or not.
Ill give its chance to JLA but i think that superhero flicks are basically dead for me.
Dont need more fun entertaining harmless ****.

Sending used condoms to your fellow thespians does not a great Joker make.

The Joker streak is broken, what a cinematic shame.
