Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

You know, whenever I hear about troubled productions, I can't help but look back on Iron Man. Apparently, there were money problems, the script kept changing, heck, they even improvised certain lines. And yet, it turned out to be, well, "Iron Man".

Still the best Marvel movie. :rock

Still the best Marvel movie. :rock

It's definitely in my Top 3, but personally speaking, Winter Soldier overtakes it a bit due to it being a more "comic book"-y film. Seeing "TV Zola", the Triskellion and the like gave me goosebumps.

Oh, and here's something else on Letoker:

Brutal assessment of Leto's Joker from "The New Republic"

"But my, oh my, Jared Leto. His Joker is a nightmare—in a bad way. His lame poses and frantic giggling are meant to convey madness, but they more accurately convey the nervousness of a man who realizes his performance isn’t working, and there’s no one there to stop or help him. This is precisely what happened to Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v. Superman, but Eisenberg had the advantage of not having to pivot off one of the greatest villain performances of all-time. After Heath Ledger’s leap into the void as The Joker in The Dark Knight, Leto’s Joker, like everything else in this movie, seems poorly thought through, empty schtick meant to impersonate an actual character. It’s a deeply embarrassing performance, but if you’re playing The Joker after Ledger, you’re sort of asking for it. But that’s the problem with Suicide Squad: Everyone started making a movie before they really knew what they were doing. You need adults in charge, and there are no adults in charge here. The result is, yet again, a total ****show"

The majority seem to like Leto's Joker with the negative being a lack of screentime. There's always going to be people who don't like a performance.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I see that a lot in comic book movies.

Eh, you can find that everywhere. Movies, games, comics, books. Sometimes they give a character just one trait, and then do nothing else to flesh him/her out. What's funny is that after all the hype, all the "scares" and the "scandals", Leto's Joker is a huge dissapointment.

Huge disappointment? I'm assuming you've seen the movie then?

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Going to be a long time to find another vastly original take on the Joker in the way Ledger/Nolan freshened up the character for the movie screens. And have it work for audiences.

But is Leto contractually obligated for more appearances? Is this DC's new take on the Joker?

It'd be fresh if they went classic for the first time.

I remember seeing the leaked images / footage of joker slapping Harley near his car last year. Wonder why it isn't included in the movie.

Even to a guy like me, that's cold.

eh, I think if Leto is the next big bad in the solo batman flick, he'll have more scenes and we'll get a better grip on his actual take then the 20-25 minutes in SS. I don't think we've seen enough to judge just yet.

Yeah we'll deffo see him as one of the main villains in the next Batman movie.

Eh, he never grabbed me. I want my Joker to be a classy comedian with a taste for the old times. Cray-Cray Nu52/Azzarelo Joker I never liked.

Huge disappointment? I'm assuming you've seen the movie then?

Considering it opens on the 25th here, nope. But that's the consensus, and I never liked the route. Even if he's not bad, he's still not great. For such a campaign, where everyone tried to paint him as the Antichrist, he is a letdown in that aspect.

I think a lot of people here may have different opinions of what is "classic".

Is this classic? If so, I doubt it would look right when realized onscreen... without a major overhaul to meld him into the reality around him. Like they did with Ledger.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Marvel makes entertaining movies.

Their stories might be simple and even dumb but it entertains everybody.
One thing marvel movies are not is boring.
They care enough to make sure both kids and parents and teens and old people can sit down and be entertained.
The action is serviceable enough and it has enough humor to be light but it is serious enough to not be a comedy.
Marvel does what pixar does, they try to entertain everybody. They wanna make sure the youngest and the oldest member of the family was entertained.

Batman v superman, thats not a movie that will please everybody. I KNOW and understand people here loved it.

But i cant see some family fully having a good time with it.
I dont even know who dc is making these movies for.

Who was the target audience for bvs or suicide squad?
Edgy hot topic teenagers?

Yeah, just like how TFA works because they took an already proven formula and re did it.

Folks didn't need to get surprised with a new enemy, despite the hours invested in the CGI works. That what many complained what wasn't working with MOS and also BvS. They shoulda just stick with solid story and character build up with Joker and Harley. The chemistry with deadshot is pretty good, but not sure where WB is going with investing that much with the deadshot character. It's Joker that everyone wanna see' how this universe's joker interacts with affleck batman.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

But is Leto contractually obligated for more appearances?

Usually when actors have a multi picture deal , it means the studio has the option to use that actor in multiple films if they want to, but it doesnt mean the studio is contractually obligated to use them.
