Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Absolutely suck? :lol No. YOU think they suck (a lot of people do share your opinion on that tho), but many many people like the movies. I've seen BvS a few times and I'd say that's like 7/10 for me nowadays. MoS like 6. Suicide Squad though is 9/10, **** that "my taste must be ****" just cuz I (and many more people) like something you don't. I like and love all kinds of movies, some are considered classics and masterpieces etc. But some of them are considered "trash" (bad boys 2 for example) by a lot of people.

I'm drunk and I forgot where I was going with this rant but they are called "tastes" for a reason, some people like a certain movie, some people don't. Like you said, as long as you yourself enjoy the movie you shouldn't worry about people who don't.

I didn't mean to call your taste ****, it was just a figure of speech. But, regardless, sorry if it came out like that.

But these movies are disappointing. For x amount of people that seem to like them, there seems to be a xxxxx amount that don't. And I'm sure that's not only critics.

There definitely is something wrong about how WB is handling all this. Two disappointing DC movies in a row, being trashed online is NOT a good thing.

Watch these get rebooted soon.

I think the editing and pacing issues are one of the main reasons. And that's just because DC is trying to catch up to the MCU, by overstuffing with characters and flashbacks to create a full universe with so few movies, I'm not really a big Marvel fan but I respect that they spent years creating the universe with origin stories etc. I think if DC had started their cinematic universe slowly and gradually builded it with solo movies and such, critics and the fans might have liked them more :dunno

But I love the path DCEU is headed with JL and Wonder Woman and others to come. They can't possibly get worse reviews than they've already gotten. :panic:

Agree can't wait for WW and JL. Hopefully they use this time til WW to make sure the editing is on point.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Nicholson and his men wrecked the restaurant / art gallery and released gas to kill everyone. They also gassed the whole city- I guess that was pretty bad.

I did like Leto but he was very underwhelming. I felt he might have been trying too hard and wasn't always sure what to do to be different and 'and there'.

I'm an '89 fan and I get what you mean, but I'm sure you know what I meant too. The tones are completely different. Everyone dancing around to Prince while playfully wrecking the joint is very different than what we saw here. J and the boys blow in like a tornado wearing wacky head gear and mow down everything in their way with assault rifles. We didn't even see it done as violently in TDK. Eyeball man and the crew won some points with me. Even the scene that we got a glimpse of in the trailer; black tux laughing his ass off while gunning away was pretty cool. Hanging in a strip club guarded by his men, appearing like the boss/prince of crime he's supposed to be was different than we've seen also. Sure, we got that same message with Nicholson, but again the tones are completely different (Ledger was more of a one man show that manipulated pawns than a "mob boss"). There are a lot of good bits like this, but I'm trying to see past his growling to appreciate them more.

I can agree with this, their knee jerk reactionary nature may have worked for BvS' narrative, but it's finally starting come back to bite them in the butt.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I still believe both MoS and BvS will stand the test of time better than most Marvel movies. I find them more challenging and interesting, and where they fail is more refreshing than where Marvel's and Disney's succeed.
I never had much hope for SS, but hopefully it'll be a good action comic book movie.

:goodpost: yup, me too. They are far more challenging and interesting. I never leave a Marvel movie feeling like "I can't wait to see the next installment" (except maybe with Winter Soldier). But with MoS and BvS i certainly did. I didn't love Luthor in BvS as much as i was hoping, but i am really interested to see what happens with him next. The villains in Marvel haven't left any lasting impression on me. They are defeated at the end of all the movies. Thanos is the only one still around, but i feel nothing towards him. I dont feel like he's that much of a threat. The only villain that i really enjoy is Loki, but they made him as likable as the heroes.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

DC isn't known for leaving their villains alive either. They're all defeated at the end of each movie and most of them are dead.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Movie was ****. Plain and simple. Joker sucked. Didn't even come close to the character on any level.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

The Enchantress' powers are almost as inconsistent as Harley's accent and "craziness." :lol

I liked the references to Bats and Superman though.

My current DCEU ranking

1. MOS- 9/10

2. BvS- 6/10

3. SS- 5/10

DC takes big chances with material- Marvel is a cooke-cutter template approach that can never get too daring or stray from a required narrative flow and exposition. I am attracted to the more challenging approach DC gives us. Civil War was a snooze fest for me- WS clearly had the Russos better effort(perhaps less controlled that is)

Exactly- let the filmmakers do what they intended and stick with the original concepts. Patching up something to suit a perceived audience reaction is a gigantic mistake(re: Rogue One)

Yeah, what's up with Rogue One?

Although I think Disney is better handling this stuff than WB. I'm still confident RO will be better than TFA.
