Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I saw the movie this weekend and it's a fun movie. It's not awesome but it's fun. It's not half as bad as some of the critics are saying, that's for sure. Is it as good as the better Marvel movies? No, but it's just as good as the average ones. I think DCEU is getting hammered still because they have yet to produce a Iron Man, Avengers, Winter Soilder or Deadpool. Batman v Superman was supposed to be the explosion that ignites everything kinda like Iron Man was for Marvel and it didn't happen. If they can come up with a really great story and execute it for Wonder Woman and Justice League I think all would be forgiven and they could be raking in the dough by the billions.

Tsk, tsk, tsk... What do I expect from a sheeple? I'll have you know, I graduated from MIT at 13, top of my class, and interacting with you phillistines makes me weep for humanity. Oh, how I wish I could have intelligent conversations about the stars, the universe, string theory and the M-Branes, but alas, no intellect compares to mine...

I still don't know how much of darthkostis' post to take seriously. :lol

Do you really hate all the MCU and DCEU films? No excitement for Wonder Woman?

Is all of that true?? :lol

On another note misspellings or not I can't imagine a more epic tattoo experience than "Yeah Margot Robbie did this dressed as Harley Quinn while resting her **** on my hand." :thud:

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I don't mind that they keep doing it.

I occasionally read the Darkness and Witchblade, I love those, I understand they're still coming out, but I'm at around the #100 issues, it's pretty comfy and I look forward to catch up to it.

Personally speaking, I'm not a horror guy. I don't like horror movies or games, and I've never really watched any, to be fair. But as far as comics and books go, I'm quite the fan. Hellblazer, Ghost Rider, Spawn, Doctor Strange, Moon Knight, Lucifer, they were and are some of my fave characters and volumes. I'm still reading up on some of them, but they were always more unique than your average super-hero books.

As for "The Darkness", I'm what, 5 issues in, and while it's a product of its time, it's still enjoyable. It's one of the few times Ennis wrote a whole comic without taking jabs at spandex. His Fury and Punisher books remain my faves of him, but the Darkness ain't half bad.

What I REALLY want is a Darkness movie, they were making it but I'm affraid it fell into development hell. And the games stopped at The Darkness 2 with a huge sequel bait :monkey2

I have the game sitting on my Steam account, but I've not started it yet. As for a movie, all of these D-List CBMs will be forever stuck in development hell. Which is a shame, since they could be something fresh and new. My "wet dream" currently is a Carnage movie based on the current comic.

Eh, I can't say I'm "fangirling" over anything at this point. Even my comic book pull list seems boring to me. Doctor Strange and Black Panther are OOC-fests, King's Batman is boring, Uncanny X-Men & Hellblazer is more of the same, etc, etc. I've cancelled UXM and replaced it with Carnage, and I want to do the same with BP & DS (maybe get Old Man Logan which is brilliant), but I wanna support the solos. Honestly, the only things I'm enjoying are my indie books, Moon Knight, Deadpool and the soon to be cancelled Darth Vader. From upcoming stuff, Thanos, Deathstroke and Iron DOOM/Infamous Iron Man excite me.

Movie wise, it all looks a bit too... stale and predictable for me. Bad guys show up, hero(es) defeat(s) them, movie ends. They're more of the same, no matter how much folks here are trying to pretend the DCEU is more sophisticated. It's a different take, which I can appreciate, but the basic structure is more or less the same. Heck, all CBMs are more or less the same at this point. Even SS and DP were more of the same...

Dunno, while I'll go and see them, nothing piques my interest aside from Doctor Strange. I want more... "different" CBMs. Give me a Jake Gyllenhal Moon Knight movie with an R-Rating which explores his fractured psyche. Give me an Alien-like movie with Carnage. Give me an Iredeemable movie. Give me a Hellblazer movie that's just about Johnny Boy being a ****. Give me a Swamp-Thing movie. Give me a Lucifer and Sandman movie. Give me a Transmetropolitan movie. Give me a Planetary movie. Give me an Authority movie if you wanna go full-on deconstruction. Give me a proper Old Man Logan film that looks like a Post-Apoc Red Dead Redemption. Give me a Red Skull movie. Give me a Blue Marvel film akin to Selma. Give me a Triumph and Torment movie.

Take some chances, is what I'm saying. Give the villains some love, expend the genre and try new things. A more somber tone and edy theological lines don't count that much in my book...

opening weekend shattered the box office. people were thinking this would flop after last weeks reviews. GA proved them wrong.

I'm actually really enjoyng Rebirth Batman. Looking forward to the new Suicide Squad and Teen Titans ongoing series' as well. I'm also having fun alternating between current and classic Batman titles like Year One.

See I still think that Suicide Squad *did* give us something different. Yeah it had the light from a portal shooting into the sky which we've seen a million times but I still contend that the first act was Dirty Dozen, second act was Planet Terror, and the third act was Ghostbusters. To a degree anyway, and that isn't something we'd seen before.

The Darkness is like The Force on crack :rotfl it's so stupid, it's filled with 90's stuff like that but the stories are ok and comfy.

It's a very good FPS, but the fist one, which hasn't been ported to PC was way better.

If a Darkness movie is ever made, I want it to be the game's story and art design and even the song.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Eh, I'd wait a bit before celebrating. Same happened with BvS.

Oh it'll have massive dropoffs and probably be out of theaters in a few weeks but this is guaranted to exceed $200 million+ domestic and probably $400 million worldwide so it kept things respectable.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Eh, that's not really a fair comparison. IM & TIH came out years earlier, had smaller budgets and Marvel Studious was just starting, which resulted in money problems and muddled productions. The DCEU had the benefit of seeing where Marvel stumbled and riding the train of Marvel's success. So this whole "MoS outgrossed IM" comparison is pretty bogus. If you go by ratings both the critic and fan % are higher, so there's that as well.

IM: Critics 94% and Audience 91% vs MoS: Critics 55% and Audience 71%

TIH: Critics 67% and Audience 71% vs BvS: Critics 27% and Audience 67%

IM2: Critics 72% and Audience 72% vs SS: Critics 26% and Audience 72%

So, even with this faulty meme-esque comparison, Marvel still "wins". Not that it matters anyway. A good film is a good film, regardless of the studio.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Damn looking at it like that I'd totally take the DCEU films over the first three from Marvel. Yeah Iron Man is better than any of them but having just that one movie would get boring pretty quick.

I'd be happy even if she tatted "SWAD" on my hand like she did on Jai Courtney's assistant :monkey3

That's why I said "misspellings aside." :) Who wouldn't pass that up? :rock

I'm enjoying it as well, but it could've been better. It's miles ahead of Moon Girl, Squirrel Girl and ****, but it's not exactly Moon Knight or even Black Panther, which, while widely OOC, is a very well written book.

I guess that's fair enough, but the same could be said for Deadpool, which I kinda... liked? It was far too Way-Pool for my tastes, but it did give us something different in a way as well.

Yeah, there's a guy I follow on Tumblr who loves The Darkness, and he posts stuff quite often. Though I'm partial to the Angelus...

I played the first one a while back, but I never finished it. Though I would like to see a movie. Thing is, it's so damn 90s that it'd be a difficult sell with both critics and audiences.

Oh it'll have massive dropoffs and probably be out of theaters in a few weeks but this is guaranted to exceed $200 million+ domestic and probably $400 million worldwide so it kept things respectable.

Personally speaking, I want it to do well enough to warrant a sequel, but not as much so as the second one to be more of the same.

repeat viewings and word of mouth haven't even begun.... definitely respectable after the backlash and nay-saying.

Sounds like a fair comparison to me. Plus the graphic was just interesting so I thought I would share, it asked "which 3 did it better?" not "DC's first 3 films did it better."

But if you asked me, I'd rather watch the 3 on the right then on the left.. IM2 is a ****ing mess, same with TIH. Both are fun and have really cool moments throughout though.
Damn looking at it like that I'd totally take the DCEU films over the first three from Marvel. Yeah Iron Man is better than any of them but having just that one movie would get boring pretty quick.

Totally agree, IM is the most re-watchable on the MCU's side there. TIH and IM2 are bigger messes and far less rewatchable as far as plot goes then any of the other DC flick in this new U.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Saw it a 5th time today...it's a masterpiece. But that's as an Ayer fan. I can see why some people are off on it, but I think it does an amazing job. I'll probably post that review later.
