Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

That's kind of harsh :lol I liked some of his scenes, so I'd probably put him in the top 10 somewhere. The way he was used in the film doesn't help him though, but overall he's not bad, imo. I know you probably hate him though. :lol

I’ve actually never been a fan of Leto as an actor. He always seems to do just a bit too much in my opinion, and that really spilled over into his Joker performance. Sure its not entirely his fault, the editing and such could have been better, and I definitely think he can pull off a decent Joker, but I don’t think he has it in him to do what Jack or Heath did in the role. I think someone like Jake Gyllenhaal would really excel in the role.

I don’t hate this interpretation of the Joker though, well, the one I thought I was getting before the movie came out, this Joker just seems ways too easy to read in my opinion. I still think Affleck can make an honest Joker out of Leto some day, I just hope the DCEU lasts long enough for that to happen.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Just saw the video and damn, Leto only made honorable mention. I saw one of the top comments said “Jared Leto better not be on this ****ing list”, that actually made me laugh out loud.

Yea, some of those comments in there are just insane :lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Is this movie a success? I know if originally had a budget of like 160 million but then I heard WB ended up spending a lot of the reshoots.

Final budget was $175 million. It's currently at over $580 million in the box office. Safe to say its a financial success like the other 2 DC films.

I've got a feeling WW is going to beat this though. Although I would find it hilarious is Aquaman was the highest grossing of all of their films. The general audience probably still doesn't have a great impression of him, so I'm very interested in seeing the marketing for that movie in particular. We'll probably get a small taste of what direction they'll take with marketing him when the big marketing train starts up on Justice League.

Ah okay, I remember reading that WB ended up spending a lot on the reshoots, I don't know if it's true or not. Either way I hope this leads into a sequel I enjoy, I want more WillShot!

175 including marketing?

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I believe you are correct. I remember the og budget being around $160 - $165 million, and then saw the jump to $175 mil after all the reshoot stuff was announced.

I'm sure they're working on it. This movie has already made a ****-ton and its not even finished with its 4th week and still hasn't opened in some places yet.

Side Note: apparently the 4th Pirates of the Carribean movie holds the record for the largest budget for a film ever at a whopping $378.5 million dollars. That's insanity!!!

175 including marketing?

I don't believe they include marketing in the budget, but maybe they do. Can't say for sure. But they're at 3.4 times in box office of what the budget was, so I'm pretty sure they're turning a nice profit even after marketing & theatre fees.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I'm not really interested in the BO/budget discussion but I always feel like if you're going to get into the nuts and bolts of it and include marketing you also need to look at the bigger picture of merch, tie-ins, and all the peripheral ways they make and spend money on these things.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

Hollywood's dirty little secret, the studio makes money if the movie is a hit and they make money if the movie is a failure.

There are Wall Street companies who sole purpose are to create win win investment scenarios at all times.

Someone will still end up holding the loss, just not them.

This is true, they probably made a ton off of just licensing fees alone by letting companies print shirts, toys, etc. with WB/DC spending next to nothing on merch.

Lol, this is true. The Producers is more than just a decent musical, it talks about that stuff as well. How with tax loopholes you could technically make a bigger profit on a flop than with a hit. Although...that musical was pretty successful...I don't know anymore. I'm confused now. :lol

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I should apologize, as I meant some of these late-born Millenials. I don't like to generalize, but as I am currently taking about 7 motion production courses, all I get is some of these yung'ins coming off trying to be something between Quentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese. :lol

I meant no disrespect, and am merely talking about the kids in my classes trying to come off hot, and yet have the incapacity to actually give productive feedback. My generalization was far too prejudicial and premature. Though my discussions on this board have generally been held at a respectful manner. :duff

On another note, if they persist to be this competent in giving feedback, I may as well turn my final project to my professor privately. :lol :rotfl
