Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

but the one we got was just ripping off every other cliche mafia villain of any action movie:
I disagree. Very few mafioso are portrayed as romantic, lovey-dovey types as this Joker was. I guess Liotta early on in Goodfellas was similar in that way.

Alright, I'm not here to start some trouble, but I saw this thread bumped over at ComicVine, and the irony is astounding.

"You know, all these movies are about defeating the evil alien robot from *****ing Planet X, before it destroys the world with its ticking clock. And who the ***** cares? But you do this story about struggle and isolation and people who have been **** on that suddenly get thrown this lifeline... that's not so bad... I like to think of this as the Comic Book Movie 2."

Yeah, because the ending of SS didn't feature a rag-tag group of brightly coloured characters bonding and defeating an (alien?) sorceress and her CGI brother...

He's more saying "look we've seen heroes take out this situation so many times before, it's getting old. But if you throw some villains in there and some more vulnerable characters instead and maybe changed the "alien" approach, it might feel like something new or something that hasn't been seen."

he's not denying his ending, he's just saying how he thinks it feels different then what's been done before, which it does.

Yeah, well, considering that's from months before the film opened, he was just ******** on other CBMs to try and make his film seem different which, contrary to the marketing, did not deviate too much from the formula. It's standard studio talk, but again, the irony is quite astounding.

and that might be exactly why, we know there was more then 1 cut of the film, maybe Joker's appearance after the ghostbusters battle was supposed to be a switch and bait moment, making the story more contained. But who knows?

Either way, the cut we've all seen does deviate from formula.

What CB movie had a thumping musical first act to introduce it characters with different theme songs?
What CB movie features villains as the main spotlight in the story?
What CB movie deals into the supernatural element instead of the same old "planet x"?
What CB movie features a massively large character like Joker in such a tongue and cheek manner throughout the story?
What CB movie features 10+ big characters and is still has you out of the theater before that 2.5 hour mark?

you did say you were here to start trouble.

Eh, I doubt the Original Cut was different enough. It's a cut after all, not a different script.

Does it matter, really? He was making a statement about how he thinks CBMs are all about the good guys teaming up against a generic villain/army, and his film turned out exactly the same. By this "step-by-step" logic, we can make every generic CBM seem unique enough due to the minimal differences it has.

Nobody is saying that SKWAD is as generic as The Dark World, but the irony in his comments from 2015 when compared to the final product from 2016 is far too big to ignore.

I don't want no beef man

sound point, but 7 different cuts seem to hint towards something bigger they couldn't decide on or persuade the studio to do.

I see the resemblance to other CB movies, with the finale. but his comment seems more towards how people deal with that finale. You have to admit, he did deviate from the typical CB movie in that regard. Villains fighting a bigger villain, that's not a big Alien or some thing that's GONNA DESTROY THE WORLD. :panic:

it's more contained and for personal for the characters then just some big guy wanting to take over the planet.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Enchantress' and Incubus' whole plot to destroy the humans because they stopped believing in them, and started to "worship" the machines? That counts as "Bad Guy wants to destroy the world" in my book.

no you're not wrong, in regards to a baddy taking over a chunk of planet earth, but I meant that it's a much more contained version of that. it's not a baddy that's blowing up NY for everyone to see persay. it's stakes aren't near as high as other endings like it.

Eh, to-may-to/to-mah-to. It's still a generic bad guy who wants to destroy the world, complete with a giant machine which has no explaination whatsoever. If the SKWAD wasn't there, they were going to wipe out humanity. The stakes were just as high.

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

think of the difference between MOS and SS' endings, see what I'm saying?

it's not as "world changing" and the actual villain IMHO is Waller, it's not until later that they have to contain enchantress.

if i could rep you i would, you're one of the few with a negative opinion of the flick that gives solid arguments instead of stupid memes

From that POV, there is a difference, I will agree. But it's insignifigant in the grand scheme of things. I reckon if the SKWAD was sent in earlier we would've seen the city in disarray, and not in full-on "apocalypse" mode.

As for Waller, well, I don't think you can classify her as a villain, considering the very protagonists were villains. Sure, she was manipulative and a Grade-A ***** (what with killing her own operatives and all in that building scene before Harley escapes), but that was her job. She's a slightly more amoral Nick Fury, movie wise. In the books, while Waller is ever more of a hard-***, she doesn't reach the heights of Nicky *******ry, especially Ultimate Nick's. The guy boned his wife's friends and family within a week. Not to mention that time he got into bed with real terrorists.

Thanks a ton!

Re: DC's "Suicide Squad" (August 5th, 2016)

I saw the SS making of book. Some cool info and pics, like Joker having "Hahahahaha" tattoos instead of normal eyebrows. :lol Talk about trying too hard, and all the tattoos and the overall design of the characters is all Ayer. I bet Leto was all about having a classic design.

Contained the same exact way amazing spiderman 1 and ninja turtles.... generic as hell.

Why does a powerful magical witch with supernatural powers needs a macine... her speech of "humanity worshipping technology so ill create a machine to destroy them" was very cliche villain genetic revenge argument..... she has knowledge and powers that are thousands of years old. She could kill each suicide squad member in a second.
Not only was the ending extremely genetic as far as action movies go ( maybe not superhero movies) but it made absolutely no sense in context with her character. Why not kill waller as soon as her brother gave her more power?

Every action movie like mission impossible or stuff like that always has some kind of bomb or virus thats going to create damage.

Sure its different than avengers or man of steel, but its genetic action movie wise.

Enchantress needed the knowledge contained inside Waller's brain so that humanity would have no defense. That's how I remember it anyway. It's a total ripoff of the Borg.
