On a side note I love this pic of Jim Lee's Batman. I think Jim Lee is the best Batman artist today. I believe he was born to draw Batman, too bad Lee says he won't draw Daredevil.
Agreed, though I kind of like his X-men alittle more. Too bad he takes so damn long to draw this stuff up...

I'll be reviewing the figure this week - and yes, I think it's pretty damn mediocre. All the things that are wrong with the 13" DC Direct series are wrong here again, especially the God awful bendy hands. So he has some accessories, but they end up largely worthless since the only hands he has any hope of holding them in look like inflated surgical gloves, fall off when you breathe on them, and can barely hold them. And in the ridiculously oversized bands on the boots and gloves, all for around $50 - $60, and you get serious mediocrity.

I weep when I think how good a company like Takara, Sideshow, Hot Toys or Medicom would do with the DC line.

Oh man...looks like Nightwing is going to get the smackdown on the next review!

Given how much even Sideshow does for a $50-$60 figure, can't DC Direct do any better?

In all honesty and from what I've seen of these figures, DC Direct's 13'' line has more in common with 12'' figures from Hasbro and Mattel than it does with Sideshow,Medicom,Hot Toys and Takara.

Everything Michael says are wrong with Nightwing is also true of of every DCD 13 except the costume comment. If you can live with the body, and I've come to accept it, then this is a pretty good Nightwing.

The blue band on the costume seems to be accurate to the comics, but I'm not a regular Nightwing reader.

I think Michael is talking about the "cuffs" of the gloves and boots not the blue band on the fabric when talking about the bands. I believe that they are drawn that size in the comics but don't translate well to a 3D figure.

As a side note, I have no issues with the hands staying on my figure.

I haven't had a problem with the hands on Nightwing, but if I was only to complain about one thing about the DC body (and believe me, I think it could use a LOT of improvement) it would be the hand/wrist attachments. Many of mine have problems with the hands staying on. And I don't like the lack of wrist articulation either.

Yes, I'm refering to the cuffs that can double as floatation devices.

This figure has one thing going for it - the cool masks. They do stay on and swap easily, which was a very nice move.

Man that shot with Connor really just illustrates the size differencee!?! I really want to like these figures, but those issues w/the basebody and scale are what keep me away.

I don't agree that they are Hasbro quality, they really seem to be well made. But I think there are just some bad decisions that for me don't translate into a sale.

I hope at some point someone else gets the license to produce 1/6 DC figures, or DCD revisits the figures in an updated (closer to 1/6) series sometime in the future.

BTW Michael, where'd you get the stone gargoyles? I've been looking for some small ones for a display.

:rock :rock :rock

Michael, if the cuffs look too big to you I know the ones for the gloves can come off as one piece along with the pleather glove sleeve. The blue stripe continues all the way down the arm to the wrist on the body suit under the glove. I haven't checked to see if the lower cuffs can be pulled off the boots, I think they are glued together.

It helps to steamline him a little bit.

I was looking forward to this piece, too. :(

I wish they'd get rid of those stupid bendy hands and get some sculpted ones so they could actually HOLD the accessories and not look like oven mitts:rolleyes:...

I hear where you are coming from GB. I started off getting a couple, and I agree, the scale is just wrong, plus the cuts are aesthetically displeasing. Once you get a few, they do start to look better, together, and start to take on a super kind of aura. They start looking cooler. It's weird, but I still agree with you, they need to be done properly, in 1/6th scale. Oh yeah.

I don't think I ever said these were Hasbro quality - I said that goofy oversized silly looking cuffs like that were something I expected to see on a mass market toy, not something I paid $60 for.

And yes, you can get the arm cuffs off, but the leg ones appear attached to the boots. And yet they still have those silly zippers. *sigh*

I picked those gargoyles up at Target in their Halloween section earlier this year.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like you said it... someone else made the comment in the thread.

And thanks for the info on the gargoyles!

These aren't standard 1/6th scale - they're never going to fit in with figures from other companies. However the line is doing fantastic for DC - they have characters planned that you wouldn't believe, so I doubt they'll be letting anyone else take over from them and start over in a different scale.

Really, doing fantastic? That's interesting, since my LCS has almost everyone available on their shelf, and at the toy show in Dallas last week I heard that they were all readily available (with the obvious exception of GL and Bats) for $30 a pop. Most of them can be had right now on ebay at bin prices of around $40. They sell, but only well below SRP. LCS' won't keep ordering if they are just sitting on the shelf or taking a loss on ebay.

BTW, while I'm jerking your chain, Dave - can you send me your Poppies bio? Thanks!

Seems kinda like Medicom's approach... if the figures sell then what do they care :lol

Still to me its a bummer since I like my figures to get along :monkey2

Wow, I didn't realize that extra inch translated in to such a huge difference. I was thinking about putting them with my other miscelleneous figures but I think they would make my Medi Spider-Man and Jack Sparrow look like midgets.

My LCS had Two-Face sitting on the shelf for a while, but even he's sold out now. You have to get there early on Wednesday to even get a new one on the day they come in.

The DCD rep at SDCC said they were doing really well and hinted at some very obscure characters coming down the pike. I doubt they'd be doing that and tooling the female, teen and (skinny?) body if it weren't a successful line.
