Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I still haven't opened my figure. I wasn't planning to either, but now I'm curious to find out whether I got one of the good ones or a defective version. The curiosity is too much. Just the idea that it could be defective is annoying. It's like owning a nice looking piece of art, but in reality it's a piece of ****. :gah:

Or a girl who wears a lot of makeup.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Brought mine back today. Thankfully the store owner gave me a full refund. I thought maybe he'd want to go the replacement route, but he sold all of his stock yesterday. The nice thing is, it goes straight back to DCC so they'll know what's up.

I went to another comic store to see what they had and the owner of that one was pissed because of all the returns he's dealt with in the past 24 hours, "damn ankles!". I'm holding off for a bit. I'm sure we'll be seeing improved versions of these not just with the hip holes, but with better plastic. I wonder if they rushed these initial batches out to meet holiday demands or something. It would make sense considering Wave 2 got bumped back.

American action figures suck ass, just like our animation...

Nothing compares to Japanese quality, and I just don't understand why. :dunno

Ironically, the best BTAS episodes (art-wise) were drawn by the Japanese studios; I can always tell the difference.

Bruce Timm and Frank Paur (a director) praised the Japanese studio, Spectrum Animation, for their airbrushing effect on Mr. Freeze's helmet - they had to do it for every frame.

I think DCC has done a pretty good job with these figures, and they seem to be learning from the Japanese companies. I give DCC credit for trying, even if they are having some problems with the QC, but that could be just the first wave. In terms of the sculpting, I think DCC are on par with Figma and SH figuarts. It's the articulation where the Japanese still have an advantage, although sometimes too much articulation can ruin a nice looking sculpt.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

The idea of brittle joints scare me, especially being out here in Asia where there's no replacements for defective figures.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Thanks. :duff Been looking forward to this line for a while. Hopefully they don't shy away from guys like Alfred and Gordon, and I'd love to finally see Bullock make his action figure debut.

Meanwhile, I decided to break out one of the Caves.

What's the purpose of those holes near his crotch? These were overpriced at $25 and now it's just a huge ripoff.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

What's baffling is that none of the prototype pictures had those stupid holes in his legs.

You do realize how much action figures cost these days? With all these come with, in today's market, $25 isn't too bad. Are action figures, as a whole, overpriced? That's debatable. Are these specific action figures overpriced compared to other similar figures in this scale and of this quality (sans QC issues)? I don't think so, by any means.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

Even in person, those hip holes are just awful.

So glad I decided to cancel my preorder

Don't hold your breath, DCC has been doing brittle joints for a while now, they keep at it despite the massive complaints.

Just like the articulation, everybody complains about half-statue articulation, yet they keep doing it :slap:

Yup, price is alright, even more so compared to the crap Hasbro/Mattel puts out on daily basis.

I just paid 20 bucks each for a well-detailed, boss Proto Armor Boba Fett and Sandtrooper. Yeah they are overpriced but not like these simple BTAS figures.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

With multiple interchangeable hands, alternate capes, gadgets and a base? To be fair, this Batman isn't really fully loaded, but, if you look at the specs for their upcoming Joker figure, that thing's impressive for $25.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

I've been getting the BSSW figures and overall, DCC btas > Black Series. You can get some of the BS figures really cheap because they are peg warmers, like Solo and Skywalker. Maybe the same will happen to these figures.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

@Buzz Don't be fooled by mold recycling, what you got there, is a re-use of a mold with a lot less paint apps than the original Boba (which goes for $24 on BBTS), believe it or not it's probably a lot more expensive to make the DCC ones than the Proto Boba, given how every character has very unique molds, and other than the joints, DCC's overall plastic quality tends to be better than Hasbro's.

Recycling molds is something Hasbro is well known for, not DCC, just look at the Marvel Legends figures.

But Boba Fett is one of the best figures Hasbro has ever put out, but the average of their products has nowhere near that level of detail, DCC easily trumps them in that regard.

Take a look at this figure.

You may think it's a pretty decent sculpt huh? Well that body mold has been used easily on dozens and dozens of different characters, what they do is repaint it (rarely any new sculpting) and swap parts from other characters, throw on a headsculpt with minimum detail and call it a day... That's the average Hasbro figure.

Now DCC's Bizarro.

Every single thing is sculpted and painted with detail, there's not a single figure that shares anything with that figure, there rarely is.

You can see they could've reused the Superman mold on the left, easy money, but they didn't, everything's different, they even threw in extra articulation.

That's the average DCC figure, better and more individual sculpts and better paint, that's why DCC tends to cost more.

You can't blame them for the style of the figures, they even sculpted parts they could've just painted on like the bat logo, belt, etc, but they didn't.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

What are those two Catwoman episodes from?

I think the first one is from The Cat and The Claw, and the second one is from Batgirl Returns.

I think DCC has done a pretty good job with these figures, and they seem to be learning from the Japanese companies. The sculpts are, but the painting isn't.

Re: DC Collectibles doing Batman The Animated Series figures!!!!!

The Star Wars Black Series figures are better made than this Batman, especially Pilot Luke, Han Solo, Boba Fett, Chewbacca and the Sandtrooper.

I've had a few QC issues with them (mostly paint), but none of their limbs or joints snapped off. I didn't realize DC Collectibles figures are so prone to breakage. The last DC Direct figure I bought was Arkham Asylum Bats and Joker, and they were fine. Looking at their Facebook page though, it seems like their latest releases in the last couple of years are plagued with issues. It's a real shame because the design of these figures are really nice (minus the hip holes). The woman that did the sculpts for these did a great job and the accessories, hands and alternate capes are a nice touch.

I wouldn't have minded if these figures only had ball jointed heads, shoulders elbows, hands, swivel forearm cut and a waist swivel. Basically no articulation below the waist with static legs free of joints. It worked for the Terminator.
