Had this been the first time we?ve seen a realistic gritty Joker I would be aboard the epic train as well buttttttttttttt......

Nolan would like to remind everyone about something.

I look at this more as potential for being a really great thriller that just so happens to throw in words like Joker, and Wayne, and Gotham.

If the film is good, I think Phoenix has a shot at taking the fake title of "best" Joker from Ledger. Also, if he wins an Oscar, the joker could be the first film character since the Godfather to win 2 Oscars. :D

Have you seen the director of this movie this ain?t no Nolan or QT.

Like most MCU movies this will probably be a producer directed movie.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of any of his films. That's the only thing that keeps lowering my expectations. The footage in the trailer looks amazing, so I have to believe it can't be THAT bad.

I hope the film is not boring. Movies that focus on one character like Taxi Driver and Nightcrawler can easily be dull if the supporting charcters and situations aren't as good as the protagonist, so even if JP is great in the role, everything else could be below average. God, I hope not. I can see some shots in the trailers that have the potential to become iconic, like Joker dancing his way down the steps and him in the late night show. The way those shots are constructed and the lighting, it all looks like painting. Actually, every shot in the trailer looks amazing in the way it was shot.

It does look quite fancy.

My reservation about it is, well, it might be canon-altering and demystifying for the character. But if it's a great film maybe stuff like that can be forgiven.

I believe it?s playing this weekend at the Venice film festival so we won?t have to wait too long to get an idea

Yeah that's kind of my concern too. They really aren't indicating that there's any protagonist to speak of save Joaquin himself and sure like you said we've seen movies about disturbed individuals who go crazy and homicidal before like Taxi Driver and Carrie and what have you which were great but the trailer for this one kind of makes me think that someone at WB read people saying "TDK was so awesome but the non-Joker scenes were boring!" and said "okay then let's make a movie that is nothing *but* Joker scenes." And as great as that might sound on paper that could get old real quick.

I'm fine with Batman not being in this but hopefully there's *someone* else in this film who is interesting to follow as well that we can root for as he/she tries to help/stop Joaquin.

So is this just "Falling Down" with the Joker? A guy spit on and put down who finally cracks... and a frustrated population that follows him?

And no baring on the DC Joker by the same name? Just like Brightburn wasn't Superman?

I have to admit I like the premise... everything except the Joker. Seems like they hung that "brand" as a crutch to get butts in seats.

It looks like he will have a love interest, a single mother, kind of like the girl from Drive. His mother will also play a role early in the story, until she dies or goes to a hospital. He will visit his psychiatrist more than once until she tells him he can't see him anymore. He'll lose everything that keeps him "tied down", until he's finally "free." After watching both trailers, it looks like Thomas Wayne and Deniro's character are the "Joker" target and the focus of his anger or obsession. I have no idea how he will end up as a guest on the late night show, but my guess is that Deniro doesn't recognize him or even remember making fun of him, but Joker does. Maybe the film also has a detective or cop who is trying to capture Joker....I don't know. I just hope most of the film isn't just look at how sad this guy is and look at how many bad things happen to him, because that's not very interesting. The best protagonist are proactive characters that cause things to happen to them, not just be a victim.

I like Breaking Down. What makes tha film work is that it all takes place in one day....one bad day, sort of speak, so the story can escalate in a way that it feels natural and provides enough situations and settings to keep the viewer interested. In a way, it's like a day in the life of "Joker." We see him go from one place to another, each time meeting new people and causing more chaos, until he realizes in the end that he's the "bad guy." It's so sad when he said, "I'm the bad guy? How that happen? I did everything they told me."

This Joker movie better have a plot and Joker better have a goal. The trailer suggests that he will try to kill Deniro's character. I hope he doesn't kill Thomas Wayne because that would be just like the89 Batman. The film is R rated for "strong brutal violence", so there must be a lot they aren't showing in the trailer.
