Deposits on Exclusive Pre-Orders: Sideshow's New Policy?

What happen to me is that i pre-order Silver Surfer, Gambit, Wolverine and Iron Man VI but they came out near to each other then suddenly they announce the Iron Man also coming out soon that it suppose to be out in November or December?. Four Statue? man i am not that rich to buy them at the same time so i have to choose which one i like the most so i canceled Wolverine, Silver Surfer and Gambit coz need money for Iron Man that is freaking $489 plus tax and shipping. So i have to stretch my money, go trough my old statue that i want to get rid off and make money for a new one. and thanks i got the Iron Man that i got 2x Had issue hopefully the 3rd one will be OK i will get it this Friday I sold some of my statue now i have a chance to buy Wolverine, Gambit PF also got the Hot Toys T800 T1000 (Hell Boy PF for $125.00 @ebay) and still trying to get SideShow Silver Surfer But probably later on because they just announce the Carnage will be out soon.

Dude I have zero relations with CCGarmory.com but they are the cheapest out there and right now they have free shipping on anything over $150 (coupon google search it). I ordered the non ex Iron man maquette for 439.99 out the door!

if you don't have the cash for it when you order it or soon after, don't order.

if it gets delayed you have even longer to put the cash aside. If it is released sooner than expected, that's when they should let you cancel for free.

if you can't manage your finances then don't preorder.

great news and I hope it applies to all exclusive pre-orders. In fact, SS should make the deposit 20%. people have to learn to budget and get away from ordering things they do not have the cash for.

I do agree about QC though. SS really needs to step up their game. Personally, I would ask for an exchange (and keep on asking) until I got one that did not have a glaring flaw.

My finances are fine and I can order whatever I want. the production quality is what I am concerned about. But you guys don't look that far ahead do you?

I assume that you will still be able to get a full refund if you follow through with the order and are not satisfied--this just keeps people from ordering and cancelling.

If you return it, I imagine you will still have to pay shipping both ways.

I am OK with this--especially if they are going to announce the ES in advance (and not change it).

I would change the word "especially" with "only".

P.S. It would seem that cancellations with Exclusives have been a problem.

If it's a production quality problem that is enough to be a defect you can return it for free. If it's not a defect then you're probably being too picky. The Sideshow return department has always been awesome. Anyways, shipping within the US is so cheap, it's the internationals that should have a bigger issue.

I think we'll just end up seeling much lower ESs on the EX pieces, and they'll be around much longer. Especially stuff that just comes with prints or nameplates.

It's ____ed up to have to commit to something when the QC is as hit and miss as it usually is with Sideshow. Remember the lazy eye that a good chunk of the 1:1 Vader busts had? Now you'll have to eat shipping both ways if Sideshow can't find one that the sweatshop painted with straight eyes. And how much was that _____ to ship? By year's end, or if delays lump everything into one month and you just happen to have bad luck with the QC area, you could very well have easily spent enough in shipping back problematic product to have paid for another statue, bust, etc.

EDIT: Also, don't they limit exchanges? There was a freak who bought a 1:1 creature bust and after he sent back his third, unsatisfied because the eye paint bled into the rest of the head, they just refunded his purchase. So now, if they do that, with this new policy, you eat shipping period.

I am a fan of it! Its about time!

This way the serious collector of the item will step forward and all those on the fence have to think twice since the down payment due at the time of reservation.

Serious collectors won't have a problem with this but people who flip for a profit will hate this policy.

I'm glad you can speak for all the serious collectors out there...

I personally don't like it one bit! I don't make my purchases on a credit card, I use my check card tied to my checking account and pay cash for my purchases from Sideshow. I may not have the funds to pre-order something right now, but could have budgeted for it by the time it ships, so this will probably prevent me from ordering many pieces right off the bat on Newsletter night, and hope they are still around once I get the money together and get it into my account.

I think I understand Sideshow's reasoning, but I think this will hurt more than help in the long run.

And one last thing... it will be interesting to see how many _____ and complain the first time they miss out on an exclusive pre-order because they didn't have the deposit ready in time... but of course, I'm sure the flippers will always have the deposit... after all, they are the ones making money on these things... not the serious collectors.

Don't like it, the quality of the piece and eating the shipping is what I'm not happy with.

Speaking as a serious collector, I could afford all the fees and that would not be a problem but eating them just for the sake of QC failing or bad paint apps bothers me.

Ex's with prints don't hurt the Ex's being order as well, look at the Adam Hughes ladies they are one of most popular lines that Sideshow carries, nameplates are another thing can I see or relate with the collectors that don't like namesplates as the Ex but the prints there's several that collect prints including myself that are grateful for those Ex's. Just check out the print/art pinup threads and see how popular they are.

Yea I believe this is going to limit the Ex's made and a more selective purchasing will take place but in the long run I see it hurting Sideshow more than helping their business.

The less serious collector will more than like not order in fear of losing the fees and not being able to afford everything.
