I think Matthews is in with Vogel or at least plays some important part in Dexter's origin. I think its too convenient she shows up out of nowhere when Matthews is back in office and now he's covering up for a killer shes "mentoring". In season 7 I got the feeling he knows about Dexter and was steering Laguerta off his case. He could be in office again to look after Dex and make sure no ones follows up on him. Him and Harry were close and he was told to watch over Dex and Deb.

Im not sure if Vogel intentions are good or bad, but I think we saw her true colors when she was pimp slapping Yates. Also, is it me or did they totally reveal Vogel is the brain surgeon?

She showed up because she was getting threatened by the psychopath guy and she needed Dexter's help. I think he'd also have a problem with Dexter killing some of the people that he does.

Yates was the "Brain Surgeon". He killed all those people and scooped out the same portion of brain that was removed from his (at Vogel's request) by the hospital he was charged to. Then he sent them to Vogel in jars. That's why he has a scar on his head.

When Vogel received the two "his and her" jars at her doorstep no one was around to see her shocked reaction so if she turns out to be the one who was doing all that then it's just bad writing. Which doesn't seem to be the case so far this season.

I did find it a little odd they were using Trinity's theme for this episode. I liked it but it made me wonder if something bigger was going to happen.
but then it didn't.

Vogel recommended/ordered that he undergo the procedure to remove that same chunk out of his brain because she thought it was a tumor *insert Arnie "it's not a tumor" pic* and it was the cause of his violent ways.
