That is awesome!!

Yup! Like I said...My Dad loved every minute of it. He even got to meet some of the Original Cast members from the very first year Disneyland opened (1955).

I think we have a picture of my Father & the guy who first placed Mickey Mouse on opening day. :D

oh...........OH, WOW!..I hope they make Genie and Aladdin and Jafar and Iago and The Sultan and Cruella de Vil and Jack Skellington and Oogie Boogie and the witches from Hocus Pocus and King Triton and Ursula and Tarzan and Nemo and Dory and Stitch and Tron and Sulley and Mike and BOO and Tigger and Quasimodo and Maleficient and.........jesus christ, my head!:sick

I hope when it comes to the animated characters they choose sculptors who have experience working with Disney characters. I was told that Tony Cipriano, who has sculpted several of the Marvel pieces for SS, used to be a Disney animator, as well as sculpting maquettes for some of the animated films. I think Ruben Porcopio, who also worked at Disney animation may already be involved as he is doing the Disney sculpts for Electric Tiki. There are also a few sculptors I have met down in Florida that are very familiar with Disney characters. One is Jason Peltz, who worked in the Florida Disney Animation studio.

The other is Joy and Tom Studios, who did many of the life size sculptures you see in some of the parks and shops in the Florida parks.

Having talked with a few of these folks I have learned that capturing an animated likeness is often as difficult, if not harder than a human likeness. I also hope the animated figures stay on model, and aren't stylized in some way. If it doesn't look like it dropped right out of an animation cell, I'll be saving my money.

That would be cool. But Sideshow has always done well with the "alien" and "monster" sculpts and I would think that's pretty similar to doing animated characters. I could be wrong though. Sounds like you have alot of information about it. And if they can get people with experience with the character I think that just makes the figure even better.

I see what you're saying, but I also think the PF lends itself to a more reality based approach. Personally I'd prefer a Beast that has fur rather than fully sculpted. I'd like to see more details in the costumes too then is shown in animation.

Do you really think we'll get a furry beast (golly that sounds dirty) I'd think he'd be similar to a Chewie. I'd be content with sculpted personally.

This is where I think SS will blow this license, at least for my taste. Look at all the Disney princess stuff that has been done by Barbie and now Tonner. Its nice, but it doesn't look like the animation closely enough. Real hair on a Beast will be a deal breaker. Same with Jessica Rabbit. A cloth dress is fine, but real hair just wont look like the animation. I think they could pull off the costume stuff fine, but anything that is part of the character should remain screen accurate, in my opinion. I haven't bought any of the SS Marvel product because they don't go far enough in staying on model. The Doctor Doom PF is a terrific looking sculpt, but is to different from the Doctor Doom I have been a fan of for 40 years to make me want it. I'll be watching this closely as I am a huge Disney fan, but what I am hopeing for is a larger scale version of the pieces WDCC has been putting out for years. I am concerned that what will end up coming out is a high end Barbie version of these characters.

Ah, so you don't like the Premium Format style - so you're likely not to like any of these. Although Tom said in the video that made me think they would do stuff like capes and things more like Thor's than real PF style.

I have no issues with the PF format. My issues are with the characters themselves. Dr Doom has had a fairly consistant look for most of his history. Every artist drew him a little differently, but there was some consistancy. I didn't get that from the SS PF. It looked to different from the "traditional" representation of Doom. First and foremost I am a fan of the character, and the best collectible for my taste is one that directly translates that image into 3D. I am fine with the PF format for Disney characters as long as they look like they did in the films. A furry beast is not going to look like the animation, and Jessica Rabbit with real hair is not going to look as good as one with sculpted hair in my opinion. I'm anxious to see what's offered either way.

I think we need to give Sideshow a chance to see what they can do before making any final conclusions On an off note, how is the Dr. Doom PF radically different from the Kirby/Buscema/Byrne version of Doom? I have a run of FF books starting from the mid 60's and I thought it was a pretty faithful to the classic look.

They won't do real hair for Jessica Rabbit, I don't think they've done rooted hair for any PF's. I think Beast with real fur could look good, I'll confess I'm in the want him sculpted column, but I think they could do a Beast with real fur that would still look like the animation. I think PF's try to find that nice balance between mannequin and statue.

Sorry, but with that comment you deserved it! J/K :)

Damn, that is too F'N cool!!

I was just thinking yesterday that I would LOVE to see a Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey, I've always loved that look for him and would make an awesome PF!

I have no worries about the quality of these pieces at all...I do have a little worry about whether SSC will properly market this new gold mine.

If they come out and make a Disney figure limited to 500 ex and 1500 regular than I think it would be pretty obvious they forgot to send a memo to the major Disney fans and buyers.

I'd love to snag something very limited that a crap load of Disney fans find out about too late.

However, I'd love to see SSC make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ enough on this cash cow that other ventures like LOTR, Indy, etc can be cut some slack.

People have been asking for Mickey and I was thinking that would be one I could pass on -but you've stumbled upon the version of Mickey I'd have to have.

He'd look cool with a Gandalf the Grey PF too...

There's a really awesome Sorcerer's Apprentice Mickey Big Fig where he's pointing and the tip of his finger has fiber optics in it. I'd love to get one of those. But a PF will surpass the big figs so I'm excited to see one of those. But then you can put me down for just about any Mickey PF Sorcerer, Steamboat Willy, traditional shorts, the tux he wears at the parks, Brave Little Tailor... And it'd be really awesome if they are in the same scale as the Big Figs because I love my Jedi Mickey and I dunno if Sideshow will do a PF of that.
