Imperfect as the MCU may be Marvel still deserves credit for giving us 8 years worth of consistently above average entertainment.

But it hasn't been consistently above average.

If anything the MCU has become consistently average or mediocre over the last few years.

Not just that, the world building and expansion of their cinematic and to some extent television universe is unmatched by any franchise, brand or studio. The MCU not only has different genres films and characters, but also different demographics with the Netflix shows. Not to mention, their fictional universe isn't limited to earth, but other worlds, galaxies, and now with Dr. Strange different dimensions and "infinite" realms. I can't think of any franchise ever that comes even close to what the MCU has done in just 8 years, and to think that it all started with one guy in a cave building a suit.

Well said

The only MCU films I have not enjoyed are the Thor movies and The IM sequels were ok.

The surprising thing is, it's the lesser known characters that (aside from Captain America) I have enjoyed the most.

I've never really understood the unpopularity of the Thor movies.. Sure they powered the characters down, but most of the MCU characters with the biggest exception of Captain America are powered down.. Most of the problems in them, such as annoying comic relief sidekicks and cardboard villains are part and parcel of most of the MCU.

Thor 1, I think is a fantastic movie. I even think it's better than Guardians of the Galaxy, but Thor 2....Jesus Christ. That's just a badly written mess of a film. And it's not just cause of the terrible Darcy and Selvig scenes.

I hate that they keep focusing on earth. It was fine in Thor 1, but Thor 2 should have taken place away from earth and all his stupid human friends. It looks like he's back on earth in Thor 3. :gah:

Also, MCU Odin SUCKSSSS. He's one of the sky fathers and he is soooo weak. He spent both movies asleep and couldn't even handle some elves.

Yes, it would have been interesting to keep Thor 2 away from Earth, and introduce an Infinity Stone and the Elves another way.. They'd probably still need to keep Earth in it to some degree to keep him in the Avenger mix.

Alternatively they could have used Jane the same sort of way (love or hate her or otherwise), but instead of returning to Earth after Loki's "death", they should have kept the action over there... and just returned her at the end, with him promising to watch over the Earth, etc etc afterwards.

I give this a 6.

This movie had moments in which I thought "woah, this is a solid 8", but then it went Marvel again.

This is a 90% fresh on RT, are people still waving the RT score around with the "How does Marvel do it?", has anybody at least considered if that means anything anymore? Do people reeally think this is 90% FRESH? Well, to each their own, crazy world.

The magic was less anime-ish than I thought, it was fun to see them use it in smart ways but then they'd break the dance with dragon ball moves, visual effects were great but I feel they were wasted in such a straight forward puddle deep story, the one movie they could've gone ape **** on people, **** with people's heads and people would've eaten it up even without understanding it, risk free, but they didn't.

This is literally Thor TDW all over again.

They were a few good teachings here and there, but again, didn't even scratch the surface, they went and mentioned things like the Vedas and I was like

But nope, didn't even touch it or made anything of it.

Humor ranged from harmless to forced, expected, performances were serviceable, nothing remarkable. I had the feeling this was at least a 7, but the moment I stepped out of the theater, nothing, this doesn't linger after watching, not even a minute, it's ****ing vapor, what the hell? Civil War lingered way longer. So at least there's hope for IW.

Villain, as usual, one-dimensional.

I mean, sigh, they had the multiverse and they made it as uninteresting as they made Malekith, what a waste of a good topic.

Story, nothing remarkable at all.

Yep.

Matrix they said :lol

Oh, and Thor 1&2 suck.

Just please don't make it a loop, seeing it once was enough.

It sounds like I'm hating on it, but, I actually don't care at all about it, it was so very vapid, it offers nothing I can chew on or enough for me to hate it, it's just there.

You could say it's just...
the flavor of the week.

Oh no it's definitely there, even some musical cues and fight bits.

But it lacks the depth that movie had, now THAT **** tackled the Vedas head on.

This was just bs.

You think Strange was nerfed like Thor? It's his first film and he's not really an expert yet. I'm not sure how I feel about the Eye of Agamotto only controlling time. Also, I'm not sure I like him needing those rings to open portals. I guess that's replacing the eye's other powers.

I know very little about Dr. Strange so I can't compare. But he looked very ****ing powerful to me. That time thing is a magic fix for any problem, now they can kill whoever they want and bring them back.

I guess he was a bit nerfed. Classic Strange could do anything kind of like Silver Age Superman but even more powerful. He could beat Galactus and other higher level beings....but I think he was pretty strong for a novice in his first film.

Well, everyone is nerfed compared to the Silver Age :lol

Everybody was Mr Mxyzptlk back then.

This.

This was what everyone in my group was talking about when we left the film on Thursday. "How the **** does this have a 90%???" was one of my friend's reactions when I showed him the RT score on my phone.

I gave up on the critics earlier this year - but man, are they losing even more credibility with this movie.
