A few of you are working on the clothes angle trying to come up with something, and I'll keep everyone appraised of everyone elses progress. The one drawback to getting the Doctor Who heads made is that the show is sci-fi and MOST costumes are not going to be able to be kit bashed from other sets like you could a modern day figure from loose part sites. Pats outfit could probably be bashed. Jamies outfit could be bashed, but Toms? No way!

Characters like the Jagaroth from City of Death suddenly become appealling to get made as heads because it's like "Oooh, all I need to do is buy a white Scarface suit and he'll be done!!!" (laugh).

Here's a few rules of thumb though I've found for getting outlandish sci-fi clothes made for figures:

1) BUY YOUR OWN MATERIAL

You can show the person sewing the costume pictures of the costume you want made, thinking, "Hey, they're a professional, they'll pick the right material, they have a picture right in front of them," then, for some reason they bought some kind that looked like felt! What? This happened to my 9" Nyssa I had made. Costume was sewn beautiful... but it looked like felt. :(

So, when you can, go try and find the right stuff yourself, even if it's for a project aways away. When you see the right stuff, grab it then!

2) PANTS ARE PANTS ARE PANTS

Several sites sew pants or clothes like PROJECT ARE. It's all off a generic pattern and in the end, pants are pants are pants. If some site sews pants and you bought the material , and they will let you send it to them, badda bing! Pants done!

The price for the heads all depends on how many we get to sign up since the cost of commissioning is all getting divided up, but honestly, I'd say worst case scenario is $35, with the intention of it actually being lower as more jump on?

Thanks for the info. Warrior's Gate is great. I personally am a fan of State of Decay and Full Circle, but how cool would it be to have Gundan robot!

One thing that I've heard about this sculpter is that the sculpts are smaller, like Medicom size. I'm assuming everyone would be using a larger body or at least a Dragon or Buck base for Tom. Have you had experience with the artist? I'm still in, but want to start up on the outfit and it would help to know how it should be sized.

Thanks,
BillyB

Awesome BillyB! Glad to have you onboard. I'm sure we'll get enough people.

The Tom will definitely be serious. For me, that grim mood was the very essence of his season 18 character. (and Warriors Gate is my favorite Who story EVER!) Plus, I like my action figures to look concerned and in danger!

As far as a Davison commission goes, this first round of commissions here is our innagural run. Right now, I have three commission threads going. One for Doctor Who, one for the Phantasm movies, and one for Supernatural. All have been posted up only a week (the Doctor Who one less) and they are all doing really well response wise, which is terrific (but it also means the plate is pretty full for wanting to take on any more commissions at the moment too).

Once this first "round" of them is over and sculpted, though, why stop? ;)

This is just hypothetical babbling, since it really is pointless to talk a ways off, but I like doing things in sets, so since we have two Troughton era characters being done now (Second Doctor and Jamie), next round I would like to do a Troughton enemy--- an Invasion Cyberman (with the chest plate and hoses), maybe made to go on a Sideshow Kanamit Twilight Zone 14" figure? (because back them, they grew the Cybermen big!). There's an AMAZING sculptor on Outpost Gallifrey I want to talk to about doing the Cybermen named Daryl Joyce.

Then maybe a Romana 2 to go with season 18 Tom, and a Tom baddie? That way we all have sets of those eras, you know? The if we went to davison next, we'd do three from his era, Him, Ainley Master, and a companion, etc and so on.

Realistically, since the more people we have in on it, the cheaper it gets, future waves would hopefully be even cheaper as people jump on having seen what we ordered this time.

You know, I've heard that mentioned too, but other posters have said theirs were normal. Here's a snippet on the very same topic from the OSW SUPERNATURAL commission thread:

Tekkaman Blade: I've gotten The Bond and the House head, and they do a really good job. The Bixby one is in the mail right now.

toyadventurer: My understanding is that Bixby head is way undersized.

Mookeylama: I keep hearing that about her heads but I have the Jolie, T Soprano, and J Biel heads and they are the appropriate size

I just ordered off for my first head from her myself, so I'll see for myself how it is when I get it. All I can say is maybe the smaller heads were her earlier ones, because you can bet people would be peeved and say something (particularly the commissioners!). But the plan is for Dragon sized always. :)

Sounds good. Keep me down for both 2nd and 4th Docs. I'll send you some pics of the Tom's outfit when I get it started.

Not Sideshow sized then?

Medicon for whatever reason is substatially smaller, even though it's 1:6th.
When I say Dragon scale, I mean because Dragon/Sideshow/Character Options/Hot Toys (I say as I'm looking around my room full of figs) are all more or less the same scale sized heads. :)

Put me down for a Baker and Troughton. Really wanna see this make it to the Romana II phase so I can play Destiny of the Daleks.

Alright, I just collected the money and commissioned heads from my Supernatural and Phantasm threads over the weekend. Very excited.

I aim to do the Doctor Who heads collection in a week or so for Tom, Pat, and the Cyberman, so people are forewarned and be ready. :)

I'll PM what the prices look like closer to then (since new arrivals will lower the cost!).
Thanks!

Ada, the sculptor, actually sent an E-mail out Sat saying she will be raising her commission rates April 2nd by an additional $30 (which is Tues). So if people are actually ready to do Tom and/or Pat NOW andwe can actually gather the money together by tomorrow, we can JUST get it in. Even if we get one head in, it's saving us money now. I figured it was too short of notice or everyone, but hey, maybe we can. I'll PM everyone wioth the details.
I figured it was too short of notice or everyone.

Most people have written me saying a few days notice is too soon like I thought, (I know I could't do it that quick if given that short of notice) but I just thought I'd mention it in case there was a chance.

We'll go back to what I said before about trying for commissioning Tom and Pat a few weeks from now to give people time to try and get their fundage together. :):chew:chew:chew

Here is a pic of the Bixby head compared to a dragon and Andy's Craig head. I have several others from her and they are fine, although the Depp is a little big unless you are using a Sideshow body. She did two different Bixby heads but she is only selling the smaller one now. Just want to give a heads up because the smaller one really isn't 1/6.

Yeah, that really is messed up. I know she sculpts 8" Mego sized heads and then the 12" heads too. That Bixby almost looks like she made it for a Mego sized scale and is maybe accidentally offering it as a 12"?
