He would certainly be more believeable as a voice of authority or experience than the person who got the job.

Sometimes earning the authority through brilliant action is more interesting, imo, than just projecting it through appearance. Peter Davison is a great example of this.

Maybe it's just the 6 stories I've seen but Davison has yet to strike a chord with me in either a positive or negative manner, he just seems sort of "there" and I find his companions to be more intresting.

I think an action based Doctor can be great, Jon Pertwee was a fine example despite being an older guy yet he still had plenty of presence during the slower moments.

The new series already relies too heavily on fast paced action and I'd like to see a change to a slower pace but the casting of an even younger Doctor would seem to indicate it'll be more of the same.

I feel the same about Davison. Of all the Doctors, he's the blandest and has the least presence. I find him to be a bit of a pansy actually.

I'd love to see the return to an older, but still active Troughton/Pertwee style Doctor, but those days are gone.

Yeah, I always get the impression he's on the verge of tears when facing down his enemies :lol

I don't think Davison is a bad actor though as I've seen him in all kinds of things over the years and he's usually good so maybe it's just the way his Doctor was written in the stories I've seen.

From all accounts his final story was one of his best so I'm intrested in seeing that at some point. Robert Holmes was the sort of writer the show can only dream of having today and I've never seen a story of his that I didn't enjoy so maybe "Caves of Androzani" will do something to improve my current indifference towards the 5th Doctor.

THe one pic with the gooney looking face just screamed Troughton at me... that in conjunction with his 11 costume says that he will be emulating a bit of the second Doctor which I am really looking forward too.

What struck you as particularly CW-esque?

To even try to emulate him would be a mistake as Troughton was the best all round actor ever to play the role.
In these latest pics Smith looks more like a reject from Grange Hill ( long running UK kids drama based around a school ) than a Doctor.

I think you are confusing "emulate" with "imitate". Since the Doctor is the same man for all his incarnations pretty much every actor who followed Hartnell has taken bits of past Doctors into their interpretation.

Perhaps I misinterpreted what you meant but there is no chance in hell I'll ever, ever accept Smith or his predecessor as the same being as the previous 9.

Well thats no surprise. :lol

I suppose not but it just seems that each new set of pics that emerges looks less like a Doctor Who story and more like a teen drama so I'm finding it increasingly difficult to remain open minded about the new era being any better than the last.

8 am GMT. ;)

I'm too distracted by staring at legs to do the math, but I think that means it will be in 11 and a half-ish hours from now? :monkey1

I love the current logo, not sure if I'm looking forward to this change... Maybe it will be really wide with metal mesh and have a giant useless bar on the side... :monkey3

7 hours 42 minutes to go!

At this point I'm expecting the logo to be better than anything that happens in the actual stories so it'd better be good then I can tune in every week for the logo and switch off after that :)

More pics of the assistant in the UK red top tabloids today, she's running around in that police outfit with the micro skirt... hardly standard MET issue, not that I'm complaining!

On a seperate note have you heard any of Embryonic yet Marc?
