I think Sarah Jane should be killed off sometime during 11's run to demonstrate that the Doctor's allies are genuinely risking their lives by siding with him as they became far too indestructible during the previous regime.

I think a shock of that magnitude would be a good way for Steven Moffat to show his way of doing things is not the same as the other person's and it would give the show a feeling of "anything can happen" instead of being so damn predictable.

I think that might be too risky for the BBC, seeing as she is the star of a show that is aimed at the youngest part of the Doctor Who audience.
I do understand where you are coming from though about Assistants getting killed off. I still remember when Adric died on Earthshock and the credits rolled showing his badge. I only ever saw that episode once when I was a child and I still remember it today.

Yeah the ratings of her own series would likely dictate such a move but even if it's not her I do think someone close to the Doctor should be offed or failing that something similarly shocking needs to happen because the previous era was way too convenient in how things always got reset.

There was some speculation here leading up the finale and after the first part that Donna or Wilf would die to add a bit of extra emotion to things but as I rightly predicted it didn't happen because RTD lacked the balls to do anything truly dramatic and viewers got the standard family friendly "happy" ending he did for his entire run.

there was no 'happy ending' about that epidode. For most of it's viewers you'll find it was a very sad hour.

and as for the interacial thing.. I'd never noticed it until people in this thread pointed it out. Someone said it shows more about the viewer than the writer, and I agree with that. Maybe the people who are complaining live in parts of their countries (whether USA, UK or wherever) that are mainly white with not many 'others'.

It's never seemed anything but totally normal to me, so maybe thats why I don't see it.

But if it is Russel showing his preference for wishing things were more accepted, I don't blame him going by the "there's a disproportionate number of black people with those white women' attitiudes.

And there's no better way to convert idiots who dislike gays/blacks/whatever than seeing it on tv as being 'normal'. So many people hated blacks in various parts of america yet found Muhamed Ali, Michael Jackson, etc 'acceptable'. And that's how tolerance spreads to those without.

I really hope not. That era is now done so IMO the show should move onwards and ( hopefully ) upwards which it can't do if they keep going over old ground which has already happened to an extent anyway.

I usually think along those lines, but the Who universe now is three shows and I'm a big fan of cross-overs, so I do hope that the Doctor shows up on Torchwood (which probably won't happen :lol)

I know the cross-overs probably won't happen, but I like Captain Jack, hope he's not gone for good....

I still think it'd be intresting to have Captain Jack as a companion for a series but if not then I can't say as I'll miss him as I consider Torchwood an even bigger waste of time than the last few series of the main show.

.....that was awesomely appropriate

I'd love having Jack for a full series as well, but rumor is Torchwood 4 may take place in the US. A fun idea, for me anyway, would be if Torchwood and the Men in Black were related. A lost team gone rouge perhaps?

:lol

I did try to like Torchwood, but that one with Owen on the roof was the final straw. I ended up wanting the woman to jump so she wouldn't have to listen to him.

Can't blame you for that. I wanted him to grab her and then they would jump off together myself.

I guess I'm one of the very few that doesn't like Captain Jack. I can't stand that cheeseball, or the terrible actor that plays him. Leave him with Torchwood and out of Who please.

If anyone from the previous era has to return during the new one I think Jack would be the lesser evil.

I would have said Sarah Jane but thanks to RTD I'm sick of the sight of her in the new series, she had a nice farewell in "School Reunion" and that should have been it but as ever RTD never knew when to leave well alone and had to keep dragging her back at every possible chance.

Anyone else hoping for a new Master during 11's run?

Though his overacting almost surpassed that of the guy playing his sworn enemy John Simm was the least convincing Master the show has had and I think it's time for someone who actually looks the part. The goatee beard NEEDS to return.

Face it, people LIKED Donna. Her story is over, only ones I see coming back are Jack (Moffats creation after all) or Sarah Jane.

I don't think anyone should come back. There was far too much of that during the Tennant era. Cut all ties, start fresh. New Doctor, new era, new characters.

I thought Donna was 10's best companion. I loved their dynamic.

Dynamic = Good.
Everything else = Bad.

I agree that nobody returning from the previous era would be the best way of doing things and I also don't want to see returns for other former companions either.

I liked Martha alot from her time in S3. She totally got the short end of the stick characterization-wise the way she was written out then having hammered in quick character growth appearances in S4, but I still liked her. Too bad she had schedule conflicts with Torchwood S3. Torchwood seems like where she belongs.

I liked in RTD's reign the way companions would still be around, to be a supporting cast almost, but like alot of RTD's plans, the idea wasn't neccisarily executed the best it could have during the run. (Rose coming back in S4 being the epitomy of bad moves. Ugh!)

I really liked Martha as a companion too. Funny I didn't recognize Mickey at all - now this is alternate universe bad-ass Mickey, right? I wouldn't mind seeing a UNIT spin-off featuring them.

I thought that last part was much more interesting than the resolution with the Master and the "return" of the TimeLords. Loved the bar Jack was visiting too. I'd love to see him come back as a companion for 11.
