:monkey1 :monkey1 I hated every second that the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLY unfunny, unattractive, unwatchable, unnnnnnnnnnnnanything catherine tate was on screen. This is HORRIBLE news, I really hope it isn't true. I would be beyond happy if Sally Sparrow from Blink was the new companion, that would be great :love :love :love, but not the idiot from the last Christmas special :monkey2 :monkey2 This next season will be the equivalent to Superman III

It unfortunately appears to be official.
All the good that RTD has done with Doctor Who's revival IMO has now been exterminated with this dumbass move and there's zero chance I'll be watching series 4.
I can tolerate the other niggles I have with the series but I'd sooner remove my toenails with a pair of rusty pliers than watch that talentless ***** bellow her way through 13 episodes. RTD & co seriously think she's better than Freema?

RTD created Queer as Folk!? I had no idea that was a BBC show originally. I guess that explains why some people would hate him.

About Catherine Tate, I really liked her in the Christmas special. She reminded me of Tegan. But her and Freema for the second half of the season means a lot of estrogen flying around in that little blue box.

But yes, ideally, the chick from Blink, even in a different character would be a welcome addition.

But Caedus, come on. The only way it could be Superman III is if they replaced RTD. At worse this would make like Superman II.

I thought Catherine was ok in the Christmas Special as a one off companion, but don't really see her as an ongoing one.

I understood the need for a light hearted companion after Rose left and for there to be a slight gap between Rose exiting and Martha's entrance to give the fans time to adjust to Piper leaving and Freema appearing in the show as the new full time companion. It made sense.

This however is weird, you would think the BBC would've signed Freema up for a three year contract so the show would have some stability after Piper and Eccleston left. I hope Catherine proves everyone wrong but at the moment I'm not so sure about that.

I understand the history of Doctor Who and the everchanging Doctors and companions are part of the show, but it's happening on too regular a basis in my opinion, great characters are being introduce and dispensed with just as you get to like them.

Sally Sparrow or Doctor Milligan from Last Of The Timelords would've made far better companions for the Doctor than Catherine Tate.

And does anyone else kinda feel like Martha should've had a show down with the Cybermen after they killed her cousin?

I think that would've made a great episode, coming face to face with the creatures that killed a family member would've been great drama.

Martha coming face to face with the Cybermen would make for a great story, maybe it will happen in one of the shows she's in next year, too bad she won't get the chance to get her revenge as the Tate monstrosity will only have to open her mouth and unleash the "voice of doom" to scramble their Cyber-minds before they get the chance to say "You will be deleted".

I'm looking forward to seeing this.

I've watched a few episiodes of the catherin tate show, and as a comic performer she swings from frustratingly annoying.... to bordering on comic genius. Some of her characters she does are just fabulous disections of human characteristics, but some just make you want to change channel... QUICKLY.

I was surprised at how normal and likeable she was in the christmas special, not annoying at all... some decent acting with appropriate doctor who style comedy thrown in

all in all, I'm looking forward to next season :)

(after torchwood of course) ;)

I keep reading in alot of magazines and on different forums that people are fed up of seeing the Daleks and the Cybermen in Nu Who?

I wondered what you guys here thought about that, do you think the Daleks and Cybermen are used too often in the stories?

Personally I thought they'd got the balance about right, one Dalek two parter per series (ok three episodes in series one, but it was the main arc:D) but I wouldn't mind seeing them at least once per season as they're the Doctor's signature enemy.

The Cybermen didn't appear in seasons one or three so I don't get how they could be overused really.

Maybe these characters are over merchandised, but I don't think they're over used, what does everyone else think about this?

well, the daleks and cyberman are what people remember from the old series, So I can see why they are "sick" of seeing them and want new characters. I for one like them both, but too much of a good thing you know. One two-parter episode per season that have either is okay with me. But I would like more villans that actually survive to come up besides them too.

I think the balance has been OK,the stories featuring both have been among the best since the show's revival so I don't have a problem with either being in future shows. That said,I would strongly advise the show's producers to give the Daleks a break until Catherine Tate departs which will hopefully be at the end of series 4. Hearing her trying to shout over the Daleks unique manner of speech would likely be enough to cause a national epidemic of feet going through TV screens.

Yea, every time she even shouts or speaks I cringe. Maybe because I'm not British, but I really don't like her much.

I'm a Brit and believe me that voice is horrible even for someone used to our various regional accents. I saw her on a chat show and she was speaking normally and sounded fine so it's obviously the Doctor Who producers telling her to use the same voice as the most popular character from her so called comedy series

Maybe if the Daleks did appear in a two part story next year they could kill her, I can see the scene right now.

"You are an enemy of the Daleks!"

"Am I bovvered?"

"Exterminate, Exterminate, Extermine"

Then Dalek Caan raises his blaster, opens fire and blows Catherine to pieces right in front of the Doctor's face:lol

Well I told my girlfriend about Catherine Tate joining the TARDIS (I got her hooked a couple months ago) and apparently Darren and I are the only one's not dreading her addition.

About the Daleks and Cybermen, I think they've been used great so far. Excepting the last two, the episodes they've been in have been top shelf and important to the WHO mythology. But I can use a break from them. I'd like to see different older baddies showing up instead.

But I will add that one of the things I really love about the new WHO is the through-lines holding the episodes together with characters recurring like musical motifs. And as far as the Daleks and Cybermen fulfill those functions, I'm all for more of them.

Well Im apparently in the minority BUT after just (re) watching the first 15 minutes of Runaway Bride, I welcome Ms Tate. It will offer a dynamic far different from Martha and Rose, someone who is NOT infatuated with the Doctor. Also when shes NOT screaming (as most brides are probably apt to do when missing their wedding) she is genuinely charming to me. The last few minutes of the episode are fantastic and her reaction of awe at the creation of the Earth is very pure and simple. If they play her like that I won't mind one bit.

wait.. did The Sun report Tate or a real paper as well? Im just going from whats been said here.

the sun does get some stuff wrong but the reported kylie minogue before bbc & that martha was leaving (which the bbc denied at the time)

they also say that after series 4 RTD is walking away from doctor who & it only be one off specials at xmas etc

sun is a bad newspaper but the tend to get the TV stuff right

Well first thing first, Freema didn't actually leave. She's slated to do Torchwood and come back midway though or toward the end of Series 4. The Sun is a bit too spotty for me to trust fully, I'll just wait until we can get secondary confirmation.

I have to sadly agree with you there. I watched both Runaway Bride and Smith and Jones and loved them both again. Fun to see the Saxon references even in the christmas special. Anyway, but Tate didn't annoy me as much the second time around. She still annoyed me, but not as much as I remember. Watched the catherine tate show on bbc america this morning, and it's just horrible, can't stand the woman doing comedy. I hope she's much better in season 4.
