Been on the Doctor Who boards and heard a number of theories about who and what the Toclathaine are supposed to be.

My favourite and the one that makes most sense is that they're the future kind from the Utopia episode two weeks ago. Perhaps when the human race was evacuated to Utopia they were sliced and diced Cyberman style and turned into those things.

Or maybe the Master found them after he stole the Tardis, he did take a disc from the computer at the end of the episiode. Maybe it had the coordinates to Utopia so he could follow the rocket and set a trap for the people on board.

Other theories include, Time Lords, Time Lord children, Daleks, Cybermen and the population from Rose's alternate reality.

All of which would break the Doctor's heart:D

Well a killing of 1/10 of a people IS the definition of decimation...[/QUOTE]
Er, good point!

Nice one,my boss thought that aswell.

Martha left the doctor, now we get see if he get a new companoin from the titanic! It crashed into the tardis, really cool.

Spoiler!

And captain jack is the face of boe, what a shocker. Thats how he knew that the doctor was not alone and i guess jack does get old.
How weird was the doctor when he superaged, little suit and big eyes.

WTF were they thinking turning the Time Lord into "Doctor Gollum"?
Superaging him is a decent concept for putting him out of commission for a while but that was really badly executed IMO. And the Doctor can now apparently use the Force, moving stuff with his mind and floating through the air with the greatest of ease
The funeral pyre scene was also way too similar to the end of ROTJ and I was waiting for The Master's previous incarnations to appear as blue ghosts :lol
As far as I'm concerned the sooner RTD leaves the show the better, series 3 has had one or two good stories but the consistency of episode quality has been much lower and compared with "Parting Of The Ways" & "Doomsday" the finale was a letdown, particularly after such a strong buildup.

I found it funny that the doctor was mini gollum, he looks so odd. But yea, all the people using in the psychic link to make the doctor young again was a little bit of a stretch. I didn't think this season finale was as great as the previous ones, except for jack being the face of boe. Now I have to rewatch every episode with the face of boe now and see it as jack now.

yeah I wanna watch all the face of boe episodes now and imagine it's Jack. We both dropped our jaws when that line was said.... it was a real "OH MY GOD!" moment... lol

as for the Doctor being shrunken..... how do YOU know what a 900 year old timelord would look like without regenerating? I thought it was a wonderful effect, showed us something completely different (which is always good) and took the doctor out of commission for a while to both give martha her chance to save the day and to give the doctor the ultimate humiliation, before his fabulous return

and he doesnt have jedi powers now :lol it was only because he was tuned into the psychic network... and an entire planet's worth of people were giving him positive, simultaneous energy. How do you know what effect that would have.
I love the episode.... and as part of essentially a 3 episode finale.... we absolutely loved it here! :chew

p.s. Without Russel T Davies we wouldnt even have a quality show to be talking about..... his passion and commitment to the story is what's given Who the spectacular comeback it has had.

I think doctor who keeps getting better, this season we had a human/dalek, the family of blood and favorite episode of doctor who so far the one with the weeping angles.
Did anybody thought that the family of blood was originally a novel, which featured the 7th doctor, McCoy i think.

Whilst I don't know exactly what a superaged Time Lord would look like I think the design could have been a bit more inspired. As it was I just thought "It's Gollum in a suit" and pretty much switched off until the Doc regained his youth. I liked the fact that Martha finally got something to do beyond being eye candy (not that there's anything wrong with that), The Master was excellent again and I thought the twist with Jack being the Face Of Boe was nice too so I didn't totally despise the episode. I'm not denying RTD has done some good in the revival of Doctor Who but I think it's tailed off this series. There's only been 4 or 5 episodes that were of any great quality and the fact that 98% of the stories since the show's revival are set on or close to Earth is getting very boring, has the Tardis got a dodgy gearbox or something?

SOME SLIGHT SPOILERS IN THIS POST

I really love the new Doctor Who and it's my favourite show on television at the moment, that said I don't think the finale was as good as the previous two years we've had.

There were lots of nice moments, a particularly great one for me was when the Doctor was begging for the Master to regenerate and he refused, leaving the Doctor broken hearted. I also liked the Face Of Boe revelation as well, but I can't see it being planned from the beginning of the series, pretty cool twist though.

I agree this series has had more average episodes than the previous two as well, but there's been some classics two.

Here's my opinions on the episodes

Smith and Jones - A classic, the Judoon were great, it was action packed and Martha made a great new companion.

The Shakespeare Code - Not a classic but a pretty good episode, the three witches made ideal villains for a Shakespeare episode.

Gridlock - Didn't like this episode at all, other than Face Of Boe's death scene I considered it pretty boring.

Daleks In Manhatten/Evolution of Daleks - Great two parter, Daleks always mean the series brings its "A" game, nice twist with Human Dalek trying to change their race and great supporting characters Tallulah and Lazlo.

The Lazarus Experiment - Average story but great build up to the Harold Saxon finale, the Doctor meeting Martha's mum was hillarious.

42 - Ugh! Just ugh!

Human Nature/Family Of Blood - Fantastic two parter, bit of a slow builder but a great show and as it turned out very important for later on in the season.

Blink- Another classic, the fear of a statue that moves when you don't look at it was a genius idea for a Doctor Who monster and loved the complex plot and how it all tied together.

Utopia - The story itself wasn't brilliant but the return of Captain Jack made this episode great and the last ten minutes were truly shocking.

Sound Of Drums/Last Of The Timelords - First part of this story was pretty good but the second kinda weaseled out of the premise IMHO. Weakest of the season finales so far overall but by no means a dud.

I've been avoiding this thread since people started chatting about the trailers stuck on during the credits. (Two things I have absolutely no tolerance for: gluten and spoilers.)

Dude!! What a ride this season! Loved it, every minute of it. Some weak points, especially early on, but the last six were classic! Blink has to be one of the best Doctor Who's ever, I dare say. And the final three were beauties.

Darth Congerking and Darren, I had the same thought. I wanna check out the Face of Boe episodes now.

I'm wondering if we're going to see more Face of Boe, now that the Doctor knows who he is. It seemed in Gridlock that the two had a past. Obviously the Doctor didn't recognize him as Capt. Jack, but it seemed that the Face of Boe recognized the Doctor which would suggest that the Doctor sees him again. Then again, who knows. Perhaps the Face of Boe didn't understand that the Doctor didn't recognize him.

I loved the return of the Master. Very Battlestar Galactica. So.... at the very very end we see what looks like a woman's hand pick up the Master's ring from the pyre and... what's up with that? Don't think we've seen the end of the Master just yet. I loved that the Master was more horrified at living on the TARDIS under the Doctor's care than the Doctor was, aged and living in a cage, under the Master's.

RTD is the George Lucas of Doctor Who as far as I'm concerned.

The ring being picked up was like the end of Flash Gorden when Mings ring is picked up and shown to the screen.
Maybe its that girl from hollyoaks as i was execpting to see more from her or the master wife.

Shades of some Hammer Dracula films too?

I hope it's Lucy Saxon... definitely want to see more of the Master's wife (in more ways than one... :monkey5 ) Perhaps she puts the ring on and becomes The Mistress...

Good press release from the BBC today; there's a new companion for all of season 4... but Martha's back in Torchwood for a short stint of 3 or 4 episodes before returning to the Tardis for the second half of S4 :)

POSSIBLE COMPANION NEWS.

Apparently Dr Milligan (the guy who helped Martha in Last Of The Timelords) is rumoured to become the next companion.

Martha is also scheduled to be back next year and will appear in three episodes of Torchwood season two. Hopefully there'll be some kinda underwear scene involved for the hardcore Freema fans amongst us. James Masters is also cast for an episode.

I do wonder who picked up the ring at the end. I remember that the person had red fingernails, did anybody pay attention to the master's wife to see if she had red fingernails in the last episode? Wasn't she wearing a red dress, so it's possible it was her.

Overall, I would rate this season of Who a little better than the first and at par with the second. I loved it. I remember watching the last episode of torchwood and waiting the whole season of Who to bring back Captain Jack.
Over the run of Who/Torchwood, he has slowly became my favorite character.

Just watched all the episodes with the face of boe, and it's weird to imagine him as captain jack. Like, why is he a giant head? what happened to his body? i suppose over 5 billion years of getting older, he outlived his body and could only exist as a giant head. But then how did he die? I know he would say his last words to a timetraveler, but if he could never die, then how did he? or did he just get too old? I'm thoroughly confused on that point. BUT, I do hope that we see him again, it would be interesting too see the doctor interact with the face of boe knowing that he is captain jack.

Interesting, a male companion, I'm sure captain jack wouldn't mind that. Martha popping up in Torchwood woudl be pretty interesting. And OH yes, I sure hope there is an underwear scene, but it has to coincide with a water sequence of some kind. I think they could pull that off. :chew :chew NOW, is Torchwood airing in the fall this year like it did last year. So Torchwood in the fall and Who in the spring? is that the bbc schedule?

I really really really want to know what weta will be making for who. I'm pretty sure it will be a tardis, and I would like to see it. It's probably out of my price range, but just getting some pics would be nice.

Yes Lucy had red fingernails!

And that would make for the greatest drama if the ring has power. She's the one who killed him after all. He can moan about her killing him, she can defend that she saved him from life with the Doctor.

On the other hand, if the hand finding the ring was the Master's wife, then it could just be a wife finding her late husband's ring. No magic powers involved.

I was thinking, the watch -- the camelieon arch -- comes from a TARDIS, so somewhere in the future is the Master's TARDIS. The Master had access to the future, so he should have found his TARDIS and returned it to his location in 2007. Meaning it should be waiting for him if/when he returns.

Now, if the Master needed resurecting from the Timelords, does that mean the aborted 8 Doctor and his one shot movie is canon? That's the one where Eric Roberts gets infected with the spirit of the Master (after having been executed on Scaro) and gets killed on the TARDIS (or maybe the TARDIS ate him, it's kinda of fuzzy that bit). If it's canon then it was revealed that the Doctor is half human. Not a fan of that little bit.

One thing I've enjoyed with the new Who is that it seems to get to pick and choose what to take from the old Who. I hope it continues. A direct continuation would bring a lot of trippy stuff.

Well, I think that everybody, including RTD, tries to forget about Doctor Who: The Movie. I Love Who, but that movie was just dreadful. Anyway, I rewatched the first episode ROSE, and they had a pic of The Doctor on the Titanic.....and the Titanic hitting the TARDIS, can't be a coincidence. Nice tie-in (even though in the pilot, the doctor was eccleston, i can ignore that part). And I'm hoping that the "iceberg" the Titanic hits ends up being the TARDIS, that woudl be hilarious (but then all the people died, so not so funny I suppose).

It's been 95 years. I think Titanic jokes are okay by now.

It irritates me when they get the wrong Doctor picture like that, but I understand it. I hope they do a George Lucas Special Edition DVD set in the future and fix all those little things. Maybe get John Barrowman to do the voice of Boe.

Yeah that's pretty much it, except that a third spin off series called The Sarah Jane Adventures will be on over the summer.

This spin off is squarely aimed at the kids though and will be broadcast on kid's television.

The Master's wife did have long red fingernails, but I'm not sure whether the Master did some sort of sneaky regeneration and came back as a woman, a female Doctor Who villain would be pretty cool, though I'm not sure how the long term fans would feel about it.

Looks like whatever happens John Simm won't be back as the Master though, which is a shame, I'd like to have seen him in a few more episodes, maybe in the fourth and fifth series before the Master went onto his next regeneration.

:monkey1 :monkey1 I hated every second that the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLY unfunny, unattractive, unwatchable, unnnnnnnnnnnnanything catherine tate was on screen. This is HORRIBLE news, I really hope it isn't true. I would be beyond happy if Sally Sparrow from Blink was the new companion, that would be great :love :love :love, but not the idiot from the last Christmas special :monkey2 :monkey2 This next season will be the equivalent to Superman III
