Sorry but if you think this coming series looks daft... than I am speechless:

Or you merely have an opinion which differs from mine. ;)

Not daft, it just looks like more of the same "event TV" BS that'll inevitably fail to live up to a few seconds of highlights.

Maybe Smith will actually develop a character of his own this year instead of relying on Patrick Troughton-isms and overused catchphrases.

I think Smith is the first original Doctor to come along in a long time without being overly annoying, yes there are parts he seems familiar with Doctors past but that's a bit of charm I like since I can believe for once he is the same man. Matt Smith managed to pull off being a young man but make me believe that he is actually an old man, especially the part in the Big Bang where he says goodbye to Amy his mannerisms reminded me of my Granddad.

Totally agreed here, that is Matt's strongest aspect. He simultaneously pulls off young and old, crazy and wise, serious and easy going, happy and sad, and he makes it all believable.

I was horrified when those promo pics of Matt first came out, but now that he has a full season under his belt, I have become a big fan of Matt Smith as The Doctor.

Is it just me or does Matt look younger this year, he looks different than he did last year almost less scruffy maybe its his hair or a better jacket but I found him to look so much younger and better in Christmas Carol than he did in The Big Bang.

I like reading peoples speculation on why the old Tardis room has made a return, some people are stuck very much to Tennant. I was surprised to see Lily Cole in the trailer there are more guests than i realised.

Dude, get used to it. That isn't just Doctor Who now, that is just the reality of tv in general. We don't live in the 80s any more, and that is a good thing. We are never going back. Those who don't evolve die out.

Though I agree with you that the show will fail to live up to a few seconds of highlights.

I don't dislike Smith, in the absence of more Troughton era stories in the archives his imitation of some of his mannerisms is nice and provides a nice bit of continuity that several previous incarnations lacked.

He's great at being "alien" and his deadpan delivery of the funny lines is way more convincing than any of the previous modern Doctors although I think the thing with the hats is going to get overused the same way "Alonsy" did with 10.

But like McCoy and Eccleston before him he seems to have gotten the shaft in terms of material which makes it difficult to sit through his stories although now I may have discovered one of the big mysteries about the series I don't have to watch all of them.

Matt is the best Doctor the show has had since Tom Baker. Period.

Come gather around Whovians Wherever you roam
and admit that the waters around you have grown
and accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you is worth savin'
Then you'd better start swimming
or you'll sink like a stone for the times,
they are a-changin'.

;)

I have got used to it. Which is why I've barely watched any TV shows regularly since the turn of the century because the vast majority of it isn't worth my time.

Nu-Who was a rare exception and had I never decided to start collecting Classic DVD's then I'd probably still love it........ things just didn't work out that way.

This month is going to be rough, I cannot wait for the first episode.

btw - Season 5 can be "owned" on Amazon streaming in HD for under $13. I wonder if they will release season 6 episodes as they air. As a somebody who doesn't get BBC America, that seems like a great (and affordable) alternative.

OMG. Wife and I just watched the TV Movie......worst acting I've seen in a while. What a piece of dung.

:lol

"I alway drezzz for the occasion."

Yeah, it's pretty awful. The only good things that came out of it were Paul McGann as the Doctor, the awesome steampunk console room and Sylv's lovely new costume.

I love that McCoy came back, but he got killed off in such a ridiculous manner. And the Daleks summon The Doctor to collect The Master's remains? :slap :lol

I would've liked to see more of McGann though. I'll have to check out the Big Finish stuff some day. And there are always rumors of him guesting in the current series....

The TV Movie was clearly the template for RTD's Who and in the grand scheme of things about as worthless to the overall continuity.

Like most of Who post season 18 it is best forgotten.

One thing i like about RTD and the modern era is they 99% get great cast members, Derek Jacobi was a brilliant and wondefully sinister Master and i wish he had a little more time to be the Master.

No, the TV movie isn't even in the same league as the new shows. I felt it was MUCH closer to Who of the 80s except the acting actually took a step backwards from the dinner theater acting they had when Tom Baker was Doctor.
