All of Hurt's story was written for Eccleston, when Eccleston wouldn't come back they just re-imagined that another Doctor fought in the Time War and rewrote it for Hurt.

That wouldn't have worked at all with the way the show played out. Eccleston's Doctor was always happy. He even enjoyed when he was in the most danger as he couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen. I loved Hurt's Doctor where he was just so beaten and downtrodden, even before he killed his people.

I think, after having seen the episode, that it's obvious Chris' part was distributed among the remaining principals. But the "War Doctor" was an angle he has been gunning for since series 5.

With a more mature Doctor i think we'll see a more mature Master, back to the Sherlock & Moriarty roots of Pertwee & Delgado era. I was never a fan of Simm's Joker Master, but his performance and his and Tennant's chemistry made it un-missable.

TDOFD also opens the way for a much heralded return of The Rani, who for me has been sorely missed since the show's return. Although she's from the latter part of the classic series i think she became such an integral part of the show, the pure sexual chemistry between her and the Doctor would've been perfect for the Tennant/Piper era....

One point of the 50th special I loved was the inclusion of all the classic Doctors to help preserve Gallifrey, but one thing has been bugging me. How did Doctor's 1-8 get the call to help out in executing 11's plan to hide Gallifrey? Did I miss something?

But how long can you play that card before it gets tired? It was already starting to feel tired to me by series 5.

That being said, the Whoniverse didn't feel overly stuffed with TIme Lods pre-2005 so I see no reason why it should post 2013.

OT: Why the spoiler tags?

Just in case some folks haven't seen it yet. I know the thread has spoiler built in, but it's a pretty big deal.

Anyway like most things in Who, you can **** around with just about anything and everything as long as it can retain a certain amount of familiar touchstones in the end. So bring on
Gallifrey
as long as they figure out a way to put it in the background again and let the Doctor be the renegade/rebel/loner he's always been. I'm not in the mood for more
Timelords
atm, but we'll see how they do.

He simply went to them all and asked for their help. why not? and becuase he crossed their individual time streams, once they go back to where they should be, the loose all memory of it.

That was bugging me since saturday night, in olden times the High Council would've been seen bringing the other Doctors. Mostly likely it was removed for reasons of time and money, the cost of CG-ing 8 characters can't of been seen as worth it to anyone but the fans.

Well the High Council couldn't have/wouldn't have done that in this scenario since they were all helping Rassilon achieve his plan to destroy the universe and ascend to a higher consciousness.

Which leaves this massive plot hole, where is Rassilon whilst the all this is happening during the last day of the Time War? Surely he would be with his General?

Of course the answer is easy, money probably didn't permit hiring Tim Dalton.

hehe Yeah that is prolly the likely reason. But an in-story explanation would seem to be that Rassilon was selecting his personal favorites to ascend with him, not every Time Lord.

The High Council was with Rassilon trying to figure out how to save their own ***** while the War Council was still trying to defend Gallifrey.

The Woman angle has never been concluded, but then she was a creation of Davies not Moffat. Moffat has now got a massive canvas to play with and i kind of find it more exciting than any other time since the series came back.

Depends on who you talk to. His rebellion put him in the same spot and Gallifrey was in the
impermeable past for him.

Now that all that is changing (at least for a time) things could get
awfully crowded
for him just as it would for
Superman if suddenly the entire population of Krypton
showed up somewhere ready to go.

:lol your use of spoiler tags is confounding.

It's either his mother, or Susan.

Though, going by the Audio drama's, Susan is still on 24th century earth, where the first doctor left her.

You want to know my personal thoughts on that?

I tend to think she was the Doctor's mother, like most people think. But that doesn't explain how she was able to create a telepathic link between her and Wilf.

My personal thoughts are that she was being "shamed" because she was outed to Rassilon as an emissary of the White Guardian who was also attempting to foil Rassilon's plans. Certainly an emissary of the WG would have the power to contact people telepathically right?

:dunno

:lol

I love the BF audios but their treatment of Susan is one of the only things I don't like. She refers to herself as a Timelord, rather than a Gallifreyan. It just really bugged me when I heard that. :lol

I think it would be kind of creepy if the Master was like a 12 year old brilliant nutter plotting the Doctor's death.

yeah, it was kinda jarring. but you can't get everything right 100% of the time.

find an awesome child actor, and cast him. new villian next series!

She's definately not Susan.

a) She could be the Doctor's mother.....but i think if she was then Davies intention was to hit back at the tv movie, but then wouldn't the Doctor have looked at Donna's mother when talking to Wilf?

b) She could be Romana, which makes sense as far as being part of Rassilon's select few but not the hint of being family at the end.

c) She could be Susan, makes perfect sense with the Doctor looking at Donna (Wilf's grandaughter). But Davies likes to play with people, even hinted the Master's wife Lucy Saxon could be the Rani.

Who is she Steven Moffat :gah:

I believe the intent was to imply a familial relationship from Parent to Child as he looks at Wilf, then at Sylvia, and then at Donna.
