Wow, Barbelith. You seem to equate any resistance to changing the Doctor's race with racism, when it's really just a question of maintaining the character as-is.

What part of the Doctor's character is dependent on race? Can you list some specifics?

Take the new Battlestar Galactica, for example. To me, Colonel Tighe and Boomer will always be black men, and Starbuck a womanizing white guy. Not because I'm a misogynist or racist, but because those are the characters I grew up with.

But the new series isn't the old series. Those aren't the characters you grew up with. It's a new continuity with new characters. It doesn't change what came before.

If you're cool with the change in the Doctor's character then good for you. But don't you dare imply that anyone who feels otherwise is a racist.

Sorry. I do think there's an element of racism at play in a great many of the objections. Not necessarily in this forum.

Again, another antagonistic post.

You've got quite a problem processing disagreement; it says a lot about you.

Barbe, as with the political threads, its not disagreement which rubs people the wrong way. Its the condescending "I am smarter than you" approach you habitually show with most of your posts.

Its just a television show everyone. Lets not have this awesome thread devolve into petty personal attacks.

Way to push the responsibility we all share in respecting one another.

No more cop outs or justifications Barbe. Play nice. Consider this a warning.

Not to get this too far OT, but when did you animate your sig, Pix? It just freaked me out! :lol

Don't tell it's been like that all along...

Well, I like the Nu-Who. I think its a fun adventure show and has a lot of clever moments. I can just imagine the scene when the Doctor regenerates....

Companion looks on in bewilderment.

Doctor: "What?"

Companion (still with bewilderment): "Nothing"

Doctor: "No really, what's wrong."

Companion: "Well, its just, you're BLACK."

Doctor: "Oh, is that all. I was worried I had a perm again."

Thats the stuff I'm mostly worried about. Constant race gags and off the cuff comments. I'm actually a bit intrigued by potential special story lines involving race though. Imagine if Tom Baker's Doctor had to deal with constant jokes about the scarf or his hair...thats the kinda stuff I'm most concerned with the writers doing with a black Doctor...how many Chris Rock or Martin Lawrence type stuff can we cram in an episode.

I was joking. See the little smiley there? Disagreement is not disrespect. I haven't disrespected anyone here and I haven't gotten huffy because anyone disagreed with me. In fact the only bit of snark was the sarcastic Dalek comment. People can moan about antagonism all they want but that doesn't make it true.

Considering we got the "ginger" gag I'm sure we'll see at least one of these. Did people complain about that one?

Do you realize this is the sort of comment that many people will find racist? Why would a black Doctor have anything to do with Chris Rock or Martin Lawrence type stuff?

I just want the specials to be here and gone. Capt Jack will be in the last one to ease the transition, from the whispers the Master may regenerate at the same time. All I know is that The Next Doctor will set the stage and I can't wait to see what happens come Christmas/New Years of 09/10.

:lecture I have ants in my pants. :lecture

I really hope the rumors about DM's Doctor being Mortimus are true. That would be a lot of fun. I am going though such Who withdrawl. And Torchwood is going to be super short. It's an interesting note though that pretty much everyone associated with major aspects of the show are leaving after the specials. Also the rumors are that the Doctor and the Master regenerate together and it's only fitting as JS's Master was written to play opposite Ten.

I really like the idea too. DM being Mortimer would be hilarious (I love The Meddling Monk and I always wondered why his character was never really revisited post-Hartnell.

I really hope the rumors about DM's Doctor being Mortimus are true.

I hope not. It diminishes the Time War and the Doctor being the last of his kind when suddenly all the old friends are back. And shouldn't the Doctor be able to recognize him in the CiN clip?

I am through with the Time War stuff TBH. I am ready for the new series to move beyond that. The Lonely God thing has gotten old for me. (not to mention that it is lame to think that the Dalek's have managed to survive but not the timelords?)

The Doctor being the last of his kind is getting OLD and BORING. And FOB watches are fantastic things.

Edit: Great minds, eh Marc? :lol

Alot of the things you guys are talking about over my head cause I'm a newb.

BTW: My wife and I watched the Green Death a few nights ago which was our first of that Doctor. It was really well done. The actor was very good and much more athletic and physical even in his old age than Tom Baker. The sets were a lot better than the Baker ones as well.

I am through with the Time War stuff TBH.

Me too. But I would hope they end it in a way that keeps the integrity of the original storyline. Giving the Master a fob watch was brilliant. Passing out more is diminishing returns - just like the seeming parade of renegade Time Lords in the latter half of the classic series.

I would like to see the Doctor somehow restore Gallifrey and its inhabitants and have old characters return that way.

New series Dalek continuity is interesting. Arguably only one Dalek survived the Time War outside the Cult of Skaro. Once the Dalek jumps through time in Evolution of the Daleks it may well have helped the Emperor escape (which as shown in Parting of the Ways recreated the entire Dalek fleet from scratch) before joining Davros.

I'm just annoyed we're getting Cybus Cybermen in our universe! :)
