Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

I got in trouble debt wise a few years back. Not because of this hobby just things mounting up & lack of work. I've been debt free for over a year now & there's no way I'll ever let myself get in debt over statues. Saving up is the best way anyway, you feel better for it as well. I also think it makes you realise how much you want something when have to pay by cash rather than chucking it on a credit card for some reason.

:goodpost:
We only have one CC capped at 8K that we use to rack up miles and that's it. The concept of credit card the way you understand it int he US is very foreign to most other nations. In France a 'credit card' is basically a debit card, there are no credit cards and if you need to incur some debt you have to go to the bank and ask for a loan.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

I can imagine how easy it is for some collectors to get carried away with buying and it almost becomes like a fix just to get that next piece. In my personal experience, when I started out collecting I immediately got the bug where I was buying a new piece every other week and each piece was averaging at £300 each...the hardcore spending would eventually catch up with me and end up biting me in the arse so I learnt to quickly kerb the spending and be sensible about things...we learn from our mistakes, lucky for me I realised my mistakes early on...I now approach things by making sure I have the funds in hand before making a purchase...I'd rather pay for something outright than to pay installments or find the money in a rush which could lead to being overdrawn or loss of savings...

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

In all honesty, we could buy a few lsf's a year. But, we would never be stupid enough to waste our money like that. We enjoy having a savings account so we can do things like...buy our house, and go on vacation, get a few statues here and there...have 0 debt. Etc. Even though we could afford both pieces, we have to be smart about savings. So we will only get 1.

Unless they do Anything Buffy/Angel related or Firefly. Then I give in.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

I think SS really needs to think long and hard before this go's up for PO what price it should enter the market with. I think they were banking on the popularity of past characters they chose to justify the cost of these...some people just HAVE to have it regardless of price. But those collectors are very few at this range. Since the reviews of their first LSF's haven't been so hot they better be careful with this. In my opinion they may have stuck themselves in a tight spot with past and future pieces. Lets say SS does come to their senses and prices this piece at $1500 or less. It will start a storm on how they justified 2k for a piece like wolverine. But if they price doom also at 2k they are likely not to get many orders in and price themselves out of the market. You will also have people comparing the quality to that of Neytiri, Ironman and Darth maul which already have heat surrounding them. Basically collectors will be painting all LSF pieces with the same brush and that could be tough to shake if quality starts taking a nose dive any further. At 2k each, if one or two pieces fail the perception from customers will be....they are all this way. Of course the open ES doesn't add much incentive ether with the already inflated cost of these pieces.

I already own a couple LSF pieces from SS, and in my personal opinion what I received is not equal to what I paid. I will say they are very cool pieces and I love the scales of them, but they are not 2k cool.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

I think setting an edition size would do wonders for this LSF line. Given the less than stellar reviews for the already released ones it needs to have some kind of exclusivity to support the higher price.

Doom LSF looks amazing. I hope the in hand pieces wow people as much as what was seen at SDCC.

I will say that delays will hurt this piece from being immediately picked up. People will prioritize and do other characters that are more popular instead. SDCC will come around again and something else is sure to overshadow Doom LSF. Either that or 4-5 PFs will be shown and people will spend the $2,000+ on that instead.

Sideshow has nobody to blame but themselves.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

i had no idea the previous releases were not receiving stellar reviews, thought they look cool there's no way i'd spend that on an open ES, space hogging, soon to be worth 40% less than i paid for it collectable.

and no i'm not trying to start ANOTHER open ES/BUY IT if you love it, not for $$$ return rant, just my opinon people...:dunno

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

When I got Neytiri, I thought it was pretty good. The paint app was a notch above what I was expecting but their were others things like the bow not fitting into her hand (at all) that really bugged me. I believe all pieces collectors received had this issue. Almost all pieces I've seen others receive had issues with the electrical as well. Mine didnt have any major issues with light up plant bulbs, but one bulb in particular came painted a totally different color than the rest and their was light leakage on the bottom side of the bulb where they didn't seal it properly.

Honestly, for $1600 I was not impressed with the issues it came with. I never returned it because I didn't want to go through the headache that is the returns/replacement process. That being said, for future I'm putting my foot down with this line. I will not be ordering any more open ES, over priced pieces.

SS has the opportunity to turn this around though. I have no issue spending the money they are asking for these pieces if they can show me why I should. As they are and based on my experience...they are far from the mark.

Sorry to hear that Chris. I only own 1 LSF in my collection and that is the Iron Man Mark III. I have to say that although I paid way less than retail price for it I'd have gladly paid the full asking price, it's an awesome piece! Gonna give SS the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the LSF's and go ahead with my Wolverine order and eventually Doom when he is released. The ES doesn't really play a factor role for me as I'm buying them purely for myself and the fact they'd look great in my collection:wink1:

Well, I do support open ES in one aspect and that it allows people longer to save for a piece without missing out and paying double soon after. That being said, I don't support open ES for 5 plus years like the terminator and IM. I think they should set a time period when they will close the run and stick to it. That's the only way they can please people on both sides of the open ES argument.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

As much as I want the LSF Doom, I feel there's only a 5% chance of SS being able to get it right. They have an atrocious record with the larger scale items arriving broken or with awful paint apps. When you add those problems to a pricepoint that is far above the quality received it doesn't make a compelling argument for making a purchase.

Re: Dr. Doom LSF!

I find it very hard to put money towards a SS PF lately due to QC, let alone a 2k item.
