I don't know much about Dune, but watching the movie last night was rather unfulfilling. It was not a complete story. Paul doesn't have an arc in the first movie, seems like he still hasn't quite figured out "The Voice", he didn't become the leader of the Fremen, he didn't avenge his father ... he just doesn't do anything. It seems like the first movie should've been about him becoming the master of Arrakis, then the next movie is taking down the Emperor/Harkonnen.

Even in situations like The Hobbit, where they broke one story into multiple movies, the story told in the first part was complete.

On the other hand, maybe it was a compelling story in that I want to see what happens next, but I don't feel the same way when I saw Infinity War or Matrix Reloaded, when I knew it was the first part and the next part was coming soon.

I think they took too big of a risk splitting the story into two films without committing to making the complete story in one shot.

I guess, and I do agree I left the theatre feeling the same, but the studio wouldn't green light two films so the director had to do the first and hope the second gets approved, which it now has

They saw the greater risk in funding both before getting box office results

Kyle MacLachlan was right

See, that's the thing. I don't believe that story. I know BR2049 performed somewhat below expectation (even though it made more at the box office than its predecessor did, but I digress) Villenueve is a superbly-talented director, he should have carte blanche, he signed on an absolutely top-tier cast. If he said he wants two movies, the studio should've said 'sure', if not, he should've walked, or taken it to another studio.

I don't believe that the studio had 'reservations' about two films, I think this whole backstory is just movie drama to build hype around this first movie. With things like the Snyder Cut, I think the studio crafted that story to get fans hyped about this movie ... to try and show people that the studios are wrong. I think it was a manufactured crisis.

With LOTR being the success it was, with Infinity War/Endgame being the success it was, with Reloaded/Revolutions being the success it was, hell even go back to things like Harry Potter and Twilight, adapting epic books into multiple part movies is not a big risk with a built-in audience.

You don't make a movie like they did, telling that story, without knowing for an absolute certainty that you're doing a Part Two.

He said himself he only took it on if he was allowed to do it in two parts

There's no reason they'd delay the second part unnecessarily, they won't even start shooting it for a while, but believe what you want I guess

Not watching this til Saturday so mostly steering clear of this thread, but was hoping someone could help me out.

I saw some artist post on IG his reimagining of Star Wars in the Villeneuve Dune/BR universe. Thought I saved it but didn’t. Anyone know what I’m talking about? It was something that popped up on the explore page and no idea what the dudes name was. Thanks amigos.

Yeah, I don't think I want to wait until 2027 to see how this all ends.

Part II better end Dune. If they want to start Children of Dune or something then let that be separate.

I've never seen Hollywood so eager to build on a middling performing movie before. This is new.

I can’t wait for the new Bond movie in 2028 lol

DV said he is in talk with WB for a trilogy.

A trilogy sounds better than two films. I prefer two films, but people are used to trilogies. They want that fancy boxset. Can't do that with two films. I mean you can, but it'll look weird. All these other franchises have trilogies or far more than three films and next to them you have two Dune movies about worms? Come on.

You seek a longer worm.

Hmm then just throw the first tremors in as a prequel and all good. :rotfl
