Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

I agree chockey. No point really in ordering the new release if you already own the MMS. There isn't a significant upgrade there.

Rory, I agree with you about the skin tone and painting that Hot Toys has been doing to these figures lately. It just doesn't look as life like and real as their old technique. Frankly I think it's cheaper.

I've come to like the general shape and sculpt of this head, but I just can't get over the eyes and skin tone which are killing it. The softness too. But I think the worst part for me is now the dynamic between the neck and jawline/chin area. It just seems that the neck and sculpt are not meshing well together. It almost looks like it just goes from thick neck straight to face and the face doesn't actually "protrude out" shall we say from the neck. Almost like the face is 2D and flat. Hard to describe what I'm seeing but it's really bothering me.

The new one looks like a bootleg in the side by side comparison shot

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Come on HT, i think its time to retire the old PERS system no?

Idk PERS seems to work on some figures DX Bruce Lee Dx Jake Sparrow, but not on others, DX Indy and now the DX Arnie. I am sure its something to do with the eyes in the DX10 which is throwing the sculpt off, as with his sunglasses on he looks great.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

what do people mean when they talk of the 'new soft sculpts'? From what im reading it has to do with people saying the features in the sculpts arent as defined and this is why hot toys sculpts are getting worse. If ive understood people correctly, i think that is insane. IMO old hot toys sculpts didnt look good because the features were overly defined making caricatures of the people they were sculpting. The sculpts now look more realistic than ever, because they arent going overboard with features, to get the right look its all about moderation. If arnold in general has a big brow you dont sculpt a massive brow like LOOK LOOK, arnold has a big brow, so does my sculpt, see! and thats why IMO this new sculpt looks more like arnold than the MMS117, not as good as the enterbay. but in general hot toys sculpts are looking more like the subject, and to some, mabye that means their getting worse because you prefer a more caricature overly featured figure, which if thats ur thing im sorry that hot toys is moving in the wrong direction for you.

Reminds me of the CGI Arnie in Salvation.

The only one that looks good to me with PERS.
Still, glad I passd on this.

I love this photo of the head, and makes me alittle more confident that it will look fine in person...Another reason this shot is good is because the eyes are focused...I hate those front on shots of him where the eyes are posed like he's looking up or something...Those are the ones that makes it look goofy...

Sorry but Enterbays new BD Arnie says otherwise, minute detail, great tone/complexion, best Ive ever seen. Hot Toys are going for mass production which always equals less detail, FACT!

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

It's very divided actually. Most just think this look wasn't worth it. I've read a lot of "more of the same." Leathers are definitely better this time around and and this is a good release if you don't have the first one or didn't upgrade your mms with the coomodel stuff

Yeah, I really wanted the battle damage.

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Really? Why may I ask?

I think that's one of the best parts of this new release

The material is nice - real leather - but I don't like the lapels and the jacket's opening at the chest/mid-torso. Granted, it fits around more snuggly around the neck, but that was an extremely easy fix on the original.

I don't think the fit is improved any from the original release, although that might be more the body's fault than the tailoring, or just the limitation of this scale that prevents leather from looking real.

The original had the lapels right:

Your basing this opinion on 1-3 pics no? Its also a bigger sculpt, so to compare both isnt fair.I like the sculpt, but it looks way too young and the PERS once again impacts the sculpt

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

:lol at bringing out a screen version where the character doesn't actually wear sunglasses, but having PERS detract from the likeness to the extent that having the sunglasses on is the preferred option.

the new BD T2 is clearly better, im not arguing that, but thats a 1/4 scale vs 1/6 scale, more room to work with, and that enterbay scupt photo is not a production shot, compare it to the previous T2 enterbay in hand as far as paint application and tiny details, still looks amazing but theres a drop off

at the end of the day a 1/4 sculpt should blow away a 1/6 sculpt, theres more room to work with, but hot toys is upping their game considerably, the MMS117 doesnt look like arnold, then enterbay released their 1/4 and it looked AMAZING, and now hot toys has released their new T2 1/6, and with glasses on, looks almost identical to the original enterbay with glasses on, now enterbay released a BD 1/4 that blew them all away, and at this pace you would assume hot toys will release a 1/6 battle damaged that will be even better than the DX but most likely not as good as the BD enterbay but still very comparable. at the end of the day 1/4 should look better than 1/6, but hot toys keeps upping their game.

If hot toys keep upping their game why are most people unhappy or generally disinterested in this DX10 release? Or DX12 Batman, or Indiana Jones for example? :dunno

I think most of the disinterest comes from (not just in part of the PERS, but also) that this release was basically already done and is on a lot of collectors shelves. I have the MMS117 and have been very happy with him. And that is why Ive kept him, but I think a lot of others collectors feel they dont need two of the same "look" Terminators.
