I think it also has to do with his status in the Empire's hierarchy. In ANH, he was outside of the command system, the Emperor's private goon. By ESB, he had real authority and served as the Emperor's representative as well as a symbol of the splendor and might of the Empire itself. I think that kind of status requires some armor-all.

I never thought of it like that, but it sounds plausible to me.

both helmets looked great... it will be tough decision. expect the hand painted to be about $150 - $200 more with an edition size of about 150 (i heard mention of an $800 - $900 price on the regular).

From that news, I find these two bits very interesting as I thought the hand painted would cost far more and have a very small edition size, and that we would get a Boba Fett McQuarrie concept first:

-Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Pilot Helmet.

-Imperial TIE Fighter FX Model.

-Luke Skywalker 'Reveal' Lightsaber. This piece will open up to show off some of the elegant weapon's inner workings.

-Ralph McQuarrie 1/1 Scale Stormtrooper Concept Helmet.

In addition, the topic of the Make A Wish Stormtrooper Helmet Project revealed that the eFX helmet will not be rendered to resemble something totally unique in favour of it being the surface for many cool Star Wars signatures.

Oh snap! If they're doing a series of McQuarrie concept helmets, I'm going to be bummed I missed out on Vader.

If they're going to do a McQuarrie series, I wouldn't be surprised then if they re-issued Vader, just without the incentives of a signature and leather lining.

The hand painted version will be more like the screen used version. I can't wait to see these at Celebration V so I can make an informed decision on which one looks better when displayed.

as per my previous post, this info is a little different (the dude i spoke to gave me my info well after the presentation)... i must say, i like the sound of equal edition sizes and same price points on the helmets, but it doesn't make much business sense.
