End of the PF dream?

In an effort to show Sideshow that there would be interest in a complete fellowship in the PF line, I asked the following questions.

- Boromir looks great as part of the maquette line, but will we see him in his travelling gear from the Fellowship of the Ring in the Premium Format Line?

-Frodo is starting to look lonely as a premium format. Do you know when Samwise the Brave might join him?

-the preview of the Gollum Premium Format looks great, and he is almost two characters for the price of one. Is there any chance that this might allow for two characters on one base, say Merry and Pippin, in the Premium Format line?

I hope that questions along these lines will help push Sideshow in the right direction for the missing PF fellowship members. I don't want to be obnoxious, but we've done polls here and on other sites, and if the core collectors have shown interest, perhaps this can be extrapoleted to more of a general population!

We agree. Boromir does look great in the new range and we are stoked to finally get him here for you because we love LOTR as much as you!. We would love to see Boromir in PF format and will almost certainly mention it. Meanwhile, check out our new maquette range which we almost promise will have the characters you want.

Sam is coming to our new maquette line along with Boromir and we are stoked to get him here for you because we love LOTR as much as you! We are stoked that people have shown so much love for LOTR because we love it as well. Have you seen the new maquette line...............:lol

But yeah. I'll start sending the questions again :lol

To quote Gandalf: "There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope."

But hey, look how that turned out!

I really do wonder how many need to be manufactured to make sense for Sideshow. 500 Galadriels were produced, and some other larger scale items hover at this production size. There has to be enough interest for 500 people in the world to want Sam, Merry and Pippin, Boromir and Gimli.

There are those who will state the length of time it took Galadriel to sell out means smaller editions don't mean much, but I think the Hobbits are far different and with the line established now and interest growing, 3-5 hundred would sell, even as a single Sam and '2 fer' Merry and Pip. There can't be much more involved in Hobbits than some of the larger PF's that have had lower ES's can there? :dunno

I still maintain that as low key as Hobbits were in the films visually, there part in the whole tale is massive, and a lot more people may wonder what's missing from their PF collections when there is no-one for Aragorn to be seen protecting or an Orc to be attacking. Plain though they are, I bet putting Merry and Pippen alongside Boromir as I intend to put Frodo peeping around Gandalf, will make these pieces truly stand out :lecture

(how's that for wishful thinking and a true fools hoping? :wink1:)

Dave,

I like the way you think! I know that we have been asking for these for ages, and Sideshow seems reluctant to even try some of these characters. Merry and Pippin may not brandish swords, and their outfits may lack the regal look of Boromir, the intricate chain mail of Gimli, or the action poses offered by Legolas and Aragorn. The role they all play in the story is absolutely vital though, and they will really help flesh out a PF display!

I really hoped we would see all of the Fellowship in their costumes from the first movie in the PF line, and down the road see alternate costumes in the maquette line. This way we get Boromir from the Fellowship as a PF and Gondorian Armor Boromir as a maquette. How hard is it to understand the demand for these characters. Sideshow was part of the ROTK Pippin debacle, and I am sure that they heard the fan backlash on that!

At least we know you're good at being a smartass. ;)

So I googled Merry Pippin and Treebeard looking for images that might be a potential pose/scale for a combined Premium Format.

I found this:
lord_of_rings_two_towers_pippin_merry_and_treebeard.jpg

Given the scale here, and assuming the hobbits to be about 12 inches tall in Premium Format scale, To have a Treebeard bust base that would likely truncate part of his beard would be about 24 -25 inches from the top of Pippin's head to a point somewhere in the middle of his beard.

What do you guys think?

There is no way in heck they'd make this. Treebeard as a PF alone would be HUGE. Bigger than the Sauron statue would be my guess. Then the hobbits would have to be around the size of Frodo to stay with scale.

Josh,

I am not thinking that they would make a full treebeard, just a treebeard bust that happens to have Merry and Pippin Premium Format figures as accessories! If the bust starts with part of his beard and goes to the top of his head, you could incorporate Merry and Pippin in 1/4 scale and it would be less than 30" tall. Since most premium formats come close to the 2 foot mark, I don't think this would be out of line, do you?

Thats more likely to happen. It would make for a interesting piece I would think but I just don't know if they would go that route.

Wow, this doesn't look good.
So the maquette line it seems is going full steam ahead (for the moment) but I get the impression that everything else will be stopped for one reason or another.

I thought we would at least see a Gimli PF, people have been crying out for a representation of Gimli for what seems like forever. If a crucial character like that isn't gonna happen in PF form then like GB sais any other detailed piece most likely won't happen in PF form either.

I'll wait and see what happens but maybe the start of the LOTR maquette line, is the death of every other LOTR line :dunno
x :peace

can anyone explain why the cry for a gimli representation has gone unanswered? i would think a statue maker would want to give the collector what they want, even if you just look at it from a sales point of view. :dunno

Sideshow said in a recent Q&A on 8/2/2010 that Gimli would be coming "Eventually." So I would guess that he is forecast for sometime after 2011.

Treebeard would be best served in the maquette line (imo) as you would get more chance of a full figure. Gimli may well come some day, and possibly Boromir, but Hobbits are definately the underdogs. Maybe adding a Treebeard bust might help, but it would be a very pricey piece I imagine.:)

If Sideshow is considering making the heavily-hinted at Ringwraith on Steed, I can't imagine that a 1/4 Treebeard bust with Merry and Pippin would be much larger or more expensive, but my wallet could use some time to recover!

Again, I think if you did a partial "beard" on Treebeard as the bust, it would serve as a great base for Merry and Pippin, but that would likely inch the price point close to $500.00 - 600.00. I am just trying to come up with ideas that could incorporate both of the hobbits, and value add the base to get some people interested in these two. Maybe Balin's tomb as a base?

im betting that they meant they were gonna make the wraith and steed for the maquette line cause they havent ever made 2 characters in 1/4 scale as one piece before and the smaller scale prolly make it more appealing to people size and price wise. Of course, i would love a 1/4 piece based on that, but i dont see it happening. it would be my only piece from the maquette line though

Nah I'm pretty sure the horse of a different color refers to the pf line. They will do rider type pieces for the maquette line eventually I'm sure.

I have to agree with Josh, the hints have been pretty strong that we'll be getting a larger LOTR PF next year, and the hints have been in favor of a ringwraith on steed. I'd love to see it!

I am just trying to think of ways to combine Merry and Pippin with a dramatic base, something to add the perceived value that Sideshow thinks would be lacking for these two characters.

Next year could be a very expensive year with the Maquettes starting to ship and a horse and rider PF.

I agree the speeder/ bike.. no reason we can't get a horse and rider...:) I'd be stoked for that..... It's taken all this time to get a Gandalf the Grey PF.. there will be a Gimli how is that so difficult...LOL!
