Agreed, the HD 1003 pales in comparison. And looking forward to sporting the boxing gear for my Bruce collection too! :yess:
So you're saying I chose the wrong statue?

I don't even know :lol

Looks like Cheryl Cole. Maybe it's from X Factor.

The gifs are googled :lol

I think it's not BL's voice for some reason. If it is, it kinda sounds like BL is chillin' while reading his lines :lol

I think you might be right :D

The GOD english dialouge should be him. They way he talks especially with the bamboo in his hand. The way he pronounces" Looooonger. More FLEX-able, and verrrrry much aliiiiiive. (pun not intended). Compare that with his speech patterns from ETD or that Water speech.

Don't forget, first of all, this is not a final version. As a director, he'd prob. redub those again for the final product. Tweak it to perfection, before releasing to public.

Second of all... Mr.Lee was a toker. He became a heavier toker after WOD. He had his chronic back pain / spasms from his earlier weight lifting injury. Also, the amount of pressure from his fame to push to the next level was surmounting and this helped him relax.

I got one of those box sets in china. They had all his movies and all official documentaries about him. Some made from USA some from Hong Kong. The Hong Kong ones have the most info about him. The american documentaries have only surface info.

i woudnt really call bruce a toker..he never smoked/inhaled..he did chew on some leaves as we know to relax.and a VERY small amount was found in his stomach at autopsy.regarding his voice the HK legendsdvd dub is different to the warriors journey dub.so one IS bruce

I understand, but I'm not 100% convinced it's his voice. I could be totally wrong & it is him like you said though :D

That's what I think about the actual fight scene footage. BL might have opted to redo/tweak/edit those scenes after completing EtD. Only a hunch, not based on any information I've seen or read about.

I think Kareem said something in a documentary that they actually had to slow down their movements to cater to the audience. & something like, Kareem not used to doing so because that is not the way they trained or practiced (this is from memory, so I might be off :lol ).

your right about kareem..and his basketball club were really miffed
when they found out he'd been filming fights with bruce!!

EB can't re-do the ETD's for 2 reasons.

First, they lost the ETD licence to HT. Even their 1/4 scale statue didn't have ETD written on it. It just says Bruce Lee - HD1002. They just painted him in ETD style, which is arguable whether they can do or not.

Second, Arnie Kim owns the sculpts, and when his contract expired with Enterbay, I think he also took the rights to use those sculpts as well.

Well, way to use facts to rain on that parade. Thanks for the schooling though :)

right getting back to 1/6 something roger said about his 1st contact with bruce were garage kits in the early 90's
anyone still have any?
i have 4 and 1 from about 6yrs ago (never seen that one since)
regarding the boxing gear..might stick it good on ole EBAY get loads of dosh!!!! (evil chris ;) )

Hello guys,

As you probably know all Hong Kong movies produced back in the early 70’s when Bruce lived where filmed without sound, mostly because they where first released in the Mandarin dialect of the Chinese language, which Bruce by the way did not speak. Bruce told in an interview that when they filmed a movie he had to lip sync with a mix of Mandarin and Cantonese. The sound was recorded after in a sound studio. The only time you hear Bruce’s own voice is as Stanlore says in “Enter the Dragon” – except for the re-inserted scene when Mr. Lee is speaking to the Head Monk (played by fluently English speaking HK actor Roy Chao). Even though the audio recording of Bruce’s lines in that scene still exists and has been well know among fans as it was released in an audio media (forgot if it was on a LP single or audio cassette) by Kung Fu Monthly in UK, Europe. You can even hear it is not Bruce Lee in that scene – and it was actually done by John Little (who at the time worked for Linda Lee Cadwell [Bruce’s widow] Bruce Lee Nucleus/Educational Foundation (now named “Bruce Lee Foundation” and run by Shannon Lee [Bruce’s daughter] after Linda stepped back).

Bruce spoke fluently two languages: Cantonese which is spoken in Hong Kong (which at the time when Bruce lived was an English colony up to 1997 when England gave it back to China) and English (with a somewhat Cantonese accent). I would claim – even though I am not an expert in the English language - that his English was not average, but in some what more advanced than that, which you can hear in some personal audio recordings of him – and because he read allot of books in English. He had a huge library with books not only about martial arts and combat sports (like boxing, fencing, etc.), but also about self-improvement and development, eastern and western philosophy, etc.

The English dialog in the two 2001 releases of ”Game of Death”: “Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey” by John Little (Warner Bros. USA) and “Bruce Lee in G.O.D.” by Artport in Japan (which was in two releases – and the later release had in a new edit, and down graded picture quality in 2003), does not contain the real voice of Bruce Lee. I know that in the Japanese production the English lines of Hai Tien (Bruce’s character in “Game of Death”) was done by no other than Bey Logan – and I think that the only one who did his own lines where Dan Inosanto which was not from any 1972 recording, but done during the production of the Japanese release. In the US production “Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey” the lines of Hai Tien was done by John Little – and Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Ji Han Jae (Hapkido Master who wore the white gi/uniform with a gold belt in “Game of Death”). Dan Inosanto did not do his own lines in the “Bruce Lee: A Warrior’s Journey” because he had a fallen out with the Bruce Lee Nucleus and Linda Lee Cadwell at the time.

About the English lines in the original Cantonese audio track of "The Way of the Dragon" Bruce did some of the mobs, but I do not think he did the Mob boss' lines (played by Jon Benn) - though I might be wrong here. You can also hear Bruce doing Bob Baker's English lines as Petrov the Russian in the original Cantonese track of "Fist of Fury".

You guys got so busy while I was away that it'd take me the next 10 pages to comment! Great posts and very informative.

Chris, the garage kit I had was by Fifth Sense, it was 1/5 and sculpted by a guy called Alan I'Anson. It was a BD ETD Bruce and was superb! Sadly, my retailer 'accidentally' sold it, even after I told him and his staff strictly not to. He later did a moonlight flit with my entire collection, which I was storing at his shop!

CHEERS!

Hello guys ..... etc
Your BL knowledge is :horror

Thanks Gung. We don't even have to ask, you swoop in & clear things up automatically.

:hi5:

I was right about it not being BL's voice in 'Game Of Death' Stanlore. Shame.

:lol

Odd. Most version A's I've seen don't share the rosy cheek syndrom of version B. Instead they are pretty identical to the Nokia head.

Agreed, the HD 1003 pales in comparison. And looking forward to sporting the boxing gear for my Bruce collection too! :yess:

I suspect there was 2 different batches of paint. My ver B had rosy cheeks, while 2 of my friends have a bit of a paler cheeks but lips are painted oddly, and sort of reminds me of kinikuman:

2009101414957_341.jpg

so I assume there were different paint jobs for ver A as well, as these were done during the same time, at the same factory.

I think the boxing gear will hold up fine. What 'standards' are you referring to? ETD v A holds it own fine in a line up of current Bruce Lee's.

If I'm an HT CEO I'm praying my Bruce Lee release can even compete with EB's latest release b/c they have their work cut out for them considering their latest BL offerings (MMIS) are auctioning at $50 as we speak and selling for $50 under the retail already.

I mean to the 1/6 fig standards like the fully rubberized muscle body of Leonidas. Guess if HT were to tackle it, they'll give us similar body for the boxing outfit.

I mostly put my ver A on the boxing outfit. while its an awesome figure, it has some loose joints, clothing stains and those thigh joints just looks a bit out of place IMO.

MMIS is a great figure, just that I think theres too many people who POed too much. Thats why theres too much in the market, while not too much demand. Unlike EB that usually put a limited number on their items.

CHEERS!

i passed on 3 to my 16yr old step-son (kato-boxer bruce and a god) he has them on display in his bedroom. i kept my very 1st (i call him ''sticks'') from etd and a BD hall of mirrors (not seen that one anywhere since).i will get me nunchuks out and find that retailer!!!
not a nice thing to do that

I wish I could find him myself, my collection in today's money could maybe top the £3000 mark! I did a lot of custom work on them and they were easily up to the standards of what you saw in mags like Amazing Figure Modeller at the time.

It took me years before I could pick up a paintbrush again, I'm almost back to being as good as I was, but not quite. The ETD Bruce was the first one I properly finished.

I'm almost at the stage where I could take on a Bruce repaint, but they're all so good anyway!

CHEERS!
