Cant seem to find a thread for this yet so thought I would start one.

On July 13, 2011 it was announced that The Evil Dead was being remade and that Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert would produce the film which will be released by Ghost House Pictures and Lionsgate.

A few very brief plot details from screenrant.com

  • The film revolves in part around Mia, a twenty-something-year-old woman who has developed a terrible drug addiction as a means of numbing the pain she feels, in the aftermath of her mother’s death.
  • David, Mia’s estranged brother, attempts to help his traumatized sibling by taking her along with him, his fiancée, and several old friends for a trip to a secluded cabin in the woods. There, they will attempt to rehabilitate Mia off her substance addiction.
  • Eric, one of David’s more “arrogant” and pretentious friends, finds a copy of the Necronomicon (a.k.a. the Book of the Dead) and begins transcribing passages from it. Mia thereafter begins to experience horrifying visions and behaves in an unhinged manner – something her companions write off as just being part of the withdrawal process, despite signs that something far more dangerous is responsible…

Its been conformed that Ash will not be making a return and rumour has it that the protagonist will be a woman.
I agree it’s a good plan not to try recasting Ash as no one can replace Bruce, but one of the things that was different about Evil Dead is that a man was the hero. So it seems like a mistake to take this out of the remake.

It seems to be off and on if Bruce will make a cameo or not. In a recent interview he said its down to schedule issues between the this and burn notice.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

I'm surprised they didn't just make it a straight-up sequel following a new story line sans Ash.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Well at least they are changing it up and not just a complete rehash.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

This whole thing has always seemed odd to me. More so than other horror franchises, isn't the main character the hook of the movie? You can cast anyone as a guy in a hockey mask, guy running around with a chainsaw and leather apron, or a guy with claws in a glove and you can have the vibe of the movie...but really, at its core wouldn't most agree that Evil Dead is a fairly generic idea? Cabin in woods, dumb kids, spooky demon/spirits. What kind of identity does Evil Dead really have that you could port over to a remake outside of Bruce Campbell and maybe the Raimi shaky-cam? Don't get me wrong when I say all this, I love the movies, but it's largely because of Bruce Campbell and Ash.

I dunno. While I'm not one for remakes per say, I thought that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Omen specifically showed that remakes/re-imaginings can work so long as they're done right. Friday the 13th was also fairly decent. So if they keep the spirit but rework it to fit today's audience without diluting what it initially stood for, we're in for a sweet ride. However, if they're remaking it for the sake of a cash grab, we're in for another Elm Street.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

should not be allowed remake crap like the expendables blow your wad.....money justifies everything and nothing

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

The scariest part for me will be waiting to see if it's PG 13 and as bad as Drag Me To Hell.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

That whole taking an addict to a secluded cabin with a bunch of friends to help rehabilitate her is completely unrealistic. I wish they would have come up with something else. But with Raimi involved on some level I think it might be something to check out.

:lecture:lecture:lecture Because intervention and isolation are never used to treat drug addiction. :exactly:

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

But Expendables wasn't a remake. :dunno :lol

have not seen it but judging by the trailer its a rehash of every action movie ever made complete with rapidly degenerating action stars so in a way its a remake just more predictable and more cgi and airbrushing then its origionals :thud:.........but hey people buy tickets which in turn keeps the likes of sly arnie in botox so it aint all bad:wave

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

Every movie by now is a rehash of some sort, based on your reasoning. I wouldn't consider The Expendables to be a remake at all; more like an exaggeration or extreme execution of the classic formula, but it has its own thing going on nevertheless.

Raimi being on top of things is reassuring -- well, not quite as reassuring as it would've been had he never done Drag Me to Hell. Not sure how to feel about this. Bruce Campbell makes the Evil Dead movies what they are, IMO. Taking him out is like stripping the title of the film away.

Re: Evil Dead Remake (POSSIBLE SPOILERS)

The only reason why I'm waiting for a remake - the increasing attention to the franchise and hope for a Ash figure from HotToys.

Still doesn't make you right. Expendables was Stallone's love letter to 80's action flicks and their stars, so it was intentional. And it worked for what it was supposed to be, as will the sequel. You should see something before developing an incorrect opinion and ranting about it. It'll make ya look smarter. :wink1:
