as an adaption of Ultimate Fantastic Four, not as an adaption of any other version.

What difference does it make if a production accurately matches source material if the source material is idiotic in the first place? "Don't judge the FF because it's an accurate adaptation of the stupidest version from the comics." Huh?

And last I checked Johnny isn't black in the Ultimate comics so it sounds like they aren't doing a good job of even being true to that source.

What Marvel Studios did with Bucky was accurate to the comics? This example might actually hurt my argument since TFA was a mediocre film anyway.

It's also funny when Ben Kingsley got casted as the Mandarin everyone was excited, yet a good young actor is casted to play Johnny Storm and everyone freaks out because of his race, same with Will Smith and Deadshot.

Going from a teenage sidekick to this:

Is a whole lot different than going from superhero costumes to this:

In other words, if you're going to stray from the source, you better improve. If you're going to stray and make it stupider then don't even bother.

We'll see when the final FF costumes are revealed.

So they took the thing most unique about Bucky and turned him into a regular guy with a nice haircut.

I thought the pics I posted above proved there weren't straying far from the source with the suits.

And DOFP took this character

And turned him into this

Quicksilver remained pretty awesome.

I don't mind deviations from the source material, so long as they don't lead to Man of Steel or Chronicle 2: The Computer Hacker's Revenge.

I'm with you on that, Vaughn's comments about this being similar to Chronicle 2 bothers me a bit.

pturtle, I know you want to address criticisms against this movie by showing how those same criticisms don't hold up against good movies. I get it, I really do. I found that a lot of complaints against the Hobbit trilogy for example are regarding things that were done the same way, yet praised in the LOTR. So I really can see where you are coming from. And if the new FF turns out to just be a good or great movie in spite of what we know now then that always covers a multitude of sins.

However....

Based on everything I've read and heard about this production I just think the director and at least one of the main actors (Jordan) are tacky pompous jerks who have some degree of contempt for their audience. So for that reason alone I think they can take this movie and shove it up their *****.

Tauriel is a polarizing character and even Evangeline Lilly turned down the role at first because The Hobbit was her favorite book as a child and she didn't want it to get messed up. Regardless of whether or not you think the movies DID get messed up she took real care in how she joined the production and expressed empathy and tried to offer encouragement that what they were doing with her character was going to be really cool. She didn't say, "Ha ha, whatever losers, you're going to buy a ticket anyway."

Every questionable choice made by Peter Jackson was met with "Hey, I'm just trying to do this story justice and I personally think the best way to do that is with HFR, three movies," or whatever. He didn't come out and say, "Listen I'm basically making Lovely Bones 2 and if you don't like it then go **** yourselves. Smaug is a child molester now. Deal with it."

So since I don't respect the vision or attitude of the people making this film I don't see any need to be optimistic or on board with whatever crap they want to throw in our faces. If they make a decent movie I'm sure I'll catch it someday but Jordan's comment alone has ensured that I won't be paying to see this in the theater.

Josh Trank is no Peter Jackson, no Brian Singer, not even a Joe Johnston so as Charlton Heston said in True Lies the slack I cut them in no way applies to him.

Good points there. The guys behind Hobbit definitely had good intentions going in. Yes, the movies sucked terribly, but their hearts and minds were in the right places, and they deserve credit for that.

I think PJ wanted to try to make it more "LOTR" like as not to drive away the fans of those films. The Hobbit book is SO much different from LOTR that had he stuck solely to the source material in the book the movie only LOTR fans would have said "What is THIS" when seeing the Hobbit films. Just my opinion.

I appreciate the honesty, personally I like what Jordan had say, it's refreshing to see an actor be honest for once instead of giving a political answer to promote a movie.

I've barely heard anything from Trank to really give my opinion on him but I'll be disappointed if this movie does turn out to be a carbon-copy of his first movie.

Paraphrasing, what we've heard so far is: "**** you. I don't give a **** if you like it or not. Nah, we didn't read comics, because yes, we think comic books are stupid and nerdy. And yes, the director was high most of the time, as were the actors. The writers were constantly drunk or hopped up on ludes. First day of shooting, we literally took a **** on some Lee/Kirby Fantastic Four comics, because that was our symbolic approach to the movie. Deal with it."

Hard not to respect honesty in that situation.

Sounds like you live in a world of extremes. People are either honest *******s or nice liars. Awful costumes or carbon copies of the Tim Story films. That's a false dilemma because there are many options outside of the extremes you present. And as kara said who cares about honesty when all it does is show how stupid or clueless they are. Oh good you're honest about being an ******* who thinks the characters and fans suck. How adorable. Now go away.
