What Marvel Studios did with Bucky was accurate to the comics?
I don't mind deviations from the source material, so long as they don't lead to Man of Steel or Chronicle 2: The Computer Hacker's Revenge.
Good points there. The guys behind Hobbit definitely had good intentions going in. Yes, the movies sucked terribly, but their hearts and minds were in the right places, and they deserve credit for that.
pturtle, I know you want to address criticisms against this movie by showing how those same criticisms don't hold up against good movies. I get it, I really do. I found that a lot of complaints against the Hobbit trilogy for example are regarding things that were done the same way, yet praised in the LOTR. So I really can see where you are coming from. And if the new FF turns out to just be a good or great movie in spite of what we know now then that always covers a multitude of sins.
However....
Based on everything I've read and heard about this production I just think the director and at least one of the main actors (Jordan) are tacky pompous jerks who have some degree of contempt for their audience. So for that reason alone I think they can take this movie and shove it up their *****.
Tauriel is a polarizing character and even Evangeline Lilly turned down the role at first because The Hobbit was her favorite book as a child and she didn't want it to get messed up. Regardless of whether or not you think the movies DID get messed up she took real care in how she joined the production and expressed empathy and tried to offer encouragement that what they were doing with her character was going to be really cool. She didn't say, "Ha ha, whatever losers, you're going to buy a ticket anyway."
Every questionable choice made by Peter Jackson was met with "Hey, I'm just trying to do this story justice and I personally think the best way to do that is with HFR, three movies," or whatever. He didn't come out and say, "Listen I'm basically making Lovely Bones 2 and if you don't like it then go **** yourselves. Smaug is a child molester now. Deal with it."
So since I don't respect the vision or attitude of the people making this film I don't see any need to be optimistic or on board with whatever crap they want to throw in our faces. If they make a decent movie I'm sure I'll catch it someday but Jordan's comment alone has ensured that I won't be paying to see this in the theater.
Josh Trank is no Peter Jackson, no Brian Singer, not even a Joe Johnston so as Charlton Heston said in True Lies the slack I cut them in no way applies to him.
I appreciate the honesty, personally I like what Jordan had say, it's refreshing to see an actor be honest for once instead of giving a political answer to promote a movie.
I've barely heard anything from Trank to really give my opinion on him but I'll be disappointed if this movie does turn out to be a carbon-copy of his first movie.
"FINE. You'll get your damn trailer in front of 'Kingsman: The Secret Service.' Happy now?" Trank said via Twitter on Jan. 16.
