It's funny people are more upset about the Johnny Storm casting than they are with Hank Pym (if they're even upset) in Ant Man, if you ask me MBJ has a better chance at conveying all the essential characteristics of Johnny Storm from the ultimate comics than Michael Doulas can for Hank Pym. Making Hank Pym like 90 years old is a much bigger change than making Johnny Storm black. I have to wonder why there isn't an uproar over what Marvel's doing with Ant Man, which is looking like a larger deviation from the source material than F4 is right now. I don't think it has anything to do with racism, I just think most people on here are blind Marvel fanboys that'll eat up anything they serve.
You bring up a fair point, except that Pym is a weird character in the comics. For years writers had a hard time writing for him, and he never had a very charismatic or interesting personality to many. And one of the few things he is known for, personality-wise, is beating on his wife at one point--not an enduring trait. So, unlike Johnny, I can imagine more fans of comics being a bit happy inside to see Pym go, just because he's kind of a strange duck no one cares much about.

I actually think it makes a lot of sense to focus on Lang simply because of the other decisions made in Marvel Studios thus far--in the comic, one of Pym's defining traits is that he's not a fighting hero at heart, but a brilliant scientist. Avengers already has two brilliant scientists, so sticking an accurate Hank Pym on the team would be bad for the story.

So I can see both a very legitimate reason from a storytelling POV, and a legitimate reason from the fan's POV, for not wanting Pym. Johnny Storm, on the other hand, is much beloved and distinctive in the Marvel Universe. And the FF movies aren't tied down by any previous films. Taking liberties with him does seem more arbitrary, and can understandably bug some fans of the classic comics, even if I don't agree with those people.

Pturtle dun goofed. :lol

At least he didn't doof!

We already did see an alcoholic Stark in Iron Man 2, though they didn't go as far with it as I thought they should have.

And I would be very surprised if Lily doesn't become Wasp. Her last name is Van Dyne, and just look at her hair! As much as I love the old FF comics (was just reading some of the Annual with Reed and Sue's marriage this morning), I'm probably more excited about Ant-Man at this point.

And why is being a black African important to Black Panther's character? Just make him a white guy who lives on an island with white people and lots of cool metal. You're picking and choosing what you think is important to a character based on nothing more than *your own personal preferences* and then trying dismiss everyone else's preference as blind fanboyism. And you don't even know you're doing it.

I wouldn't have a problem with that either, just call him White Panther, but with Black Panther you can't simply just change his race and expect everything to be the same, with that you have to change a lot more about him and other characters around him. Still wouldn't bother me though if the movie is good.

I'm not picking and choosing anything, and yes the blind fanboys on here are real, which is why I'm sure you totally skipped over the whole Hank Pym comparisons I made. Ask yourself why people are okay with turning Hank Pym into a 90 year old man.

I also don't expect everyone to like race swapping in these superhero movies, I get why some people hate it, what's baffling though, are the internet trolls who then presume the movie will suck because Johnny Storm is now black. That I think is ridiculous.

I personally think Leto looks stupid in the new Suicide Squad leaked pics, I find the tattoos to be distractingly bad, but the movie may still be good.

I didn't skip over it. I was specifically addressing that when I said that you are deciding what is a small or a big change to a character based on your preferences alone. So you think age is a big deal and not race. That's your thing, and doesn't make you a "blind fanboy" because of it. Well somewhat blind, but not as a fanboy. ;)

Well yeah. A director absolutely can turn many aspects of any given source material upside down and still create a good or great film. We've certainly seen that before. But we aren't really talking about whether FF will be good or great. As a random superhero movie that looks like it's set in the Singerverse MBJ or whatever his initials are seemed to fit in just fine. But that didn't mean that I was wowed by the trailer overall. I wasn't. And the movie really doesn't need to give me any more reasons not to see it.

I get that, and like I said I understand if people don't like changing the character's race, but judging a film based solely on that change I think is pretty ridiculous. Khev can use the whole "mediocre trailer" argument all he wants, the movie was being bashed since before a synopsis released, in fact the two trailers released actually changed a lot of minds about the movie. I personally loved the first trailer and found the second trailer to be disappointing. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Ant Man turned out to be the best superhero flick of the summer.

You know the first teaser actually did have me wondering if I might decide to just give it a chance. The character stuff and visual style of the film looked better than average. But the second trailer that showed their actual powers? Ugh, like I said, it was like traveling back in time 10 years.

Right now I'm not very excited for it either, I wasn't much of a fan of the second trailer. I still think it has a great chance being a better film than Ant Man and AOU, this could just be a "meh" year for superhero movies similar to 2013.

I thought the powers looked great, but the dialogue and acting looked a bit shaky, and it looks like it's going to be another formulaic superhero movie instead of something similar to The Fly like Trank was saying. My expectations have been lowered by quite a bit after the second trailer. Hopefully it turns out good though.

Trank can work with MBJ but he did later go and say he did the casting out of diversity. Now, whether that was a studio decision for PR or simply cause that is what Trank felt, it does **** the movie.

As for Sue being adopted, no one can say that that relationship is even equal to blood relations. I will never connect to a another person, in comparison to my brother or sisters. Now,my reason against that move is because it FORCES the situation to be explained, despite what people claim. We can say, I'm good with her being adopted, but why? Why not just make her black like Johnny? What is the purpose behind that? And honestly, it is simply idiotic storytelling and unnecessary. It just seems to appeal to those who want "diversity".

If they had simply made the siblings white or black, together, it will do a lot of telling without seeming skanky. Look at Iris West being black and how her father adopted Barry. They did it and was explained well within the story and appealed to a Lot of people; this movie however will not be able to do it and if it does, it will drag what the film could have potentially of been.

Skipping most of the redundant posts, I think this Trank fella just needs to STFU and let his movie do the talking for him. The finished product is all that matters, not the drama or excuses involved with it.

If the movie will be good as you think it will be, just let it speak for itself and let the haters hate.

This movie is still gonna tank

in the end, the only thing most of us care about is how good the movie is. If it's good and does well, then good for Trank. If it sucks, then he's gonna look like a bigger ***** than he already does.
