Who's playing Doom?
A real Rock'n'Rolla...

Seriously, he's a very good actor.

Koba was awesome. One of the best villain of the 21st century for me.

there's plenty of good superhero movies with un-memorable mediocre villains.

I agree with Koba -- just saw this on HBO last night and I thought Koba was awesome. Especially when he was faking.

But your second point -- not sure I agree with, other than the first Iron Man.

The notion that you would be okay with an unmemorable, mediocre DOOM is telling. Alas. I think Kebbell will deliver a captivating performance. It's not his acting I'm worried about. It's the writing.

I didn't think Stane was a very good villain personally. He was OK. Mild. He played more like "the traitor" than a truly threatening villain. Hardly was he Stark's opposite number. Lucky he had a giant robot suit to butch him up.

Ultron could have been a great villain, except they gave him too much "snark" without some really great lines. He is no Hans Gruber where he needed to be. Hans would never say "If I could throw up in my mouth..."

I wouldn't wish for it but it's not the be all and end all of the movie being good as a whole for me.

Guardians was awesome but Ronan sucked and that didn't reduce the movie imo

I liked Guardians too, and the villain did suck, which is one of the reasons why I don't think it has legs. Time will tell.

A great villain is so key. If your theatrical experience is fairly recent, then I can understand why you don't require a great villain. There really hasn't been one in a long time. Last really great villains was Ledger's Joker and Davy Jones. I can't remember a good one since. The focus has been more on the heroes.

Are you excluding Fury Road???

I was trying to be recent but not current. I love Fury Road as you know but I'm on the fence if I would call Immotan Joe a truly great villain. He looks the part that's for sure, but I'm not sure he was a great challenge for Max as villains go. He's no Wez, that's for sure. Wez is a top notch villain... but that's a long, long time ago.

See, I'm not wrong about IJ's lack of challenge.

He was playing chess in the desert bored not knowing what to do with himself.

They should've had him catch and torture Max then Furiosa comes and rescues Max.

Guarians is...ok. Ronan was mediocre and that absolutely reduced the films greatness. There's really no interesting conflict in that film. I know the team coming together is intended to be the central one, but that conflict could have been much more interesting if Ronan himself was...more.

:lol :lol :lol

Isn't Thulsa playing Doom?

Jye...this is a joke for the witty history books.

I would have liked IJ to be more of a hands-on type villain and more of a direct threat to Max personally -- at least have a good hand-to-hand in a speeding car.

Even though he was a frail dude, he could have nitros'd himself up with his Bane mask and went wild in a final fight.

Why thank you nice lady (I know that you're a male but I need to use my Sheriff Buford T. Justice homage at least once a day and it was getting late). :lol

We'll take this over to the FR thread. :lol

But yes, nail on head!
