That right there shows just how good Chiklis & Evans were in the previous films.
Pity that's where the good ended.
Pretty much.
Gruffudd was ok but still laked the charisma to play Reed.
Alba was a total miscast, hated her.
I liked McMahon tho, he could be great if script/director allowed him to.

Currently at a Fantastic 14% pm RT.

:lol :lol :lol

Everyone figured it would be easily beat.

Reading the snippets of reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, no one is totally ripping it. It seems that most of the reviewers are just kind of underwhelmed, as they went in expecting a comic book movie more along the lines of the Marvel Studios stuff, and came out disappointed. One even explicitly says it is a slow-paced indie drama masquerading as a comic book movie. So, expectations could be hurting the score, but the overall "rating" is 5.2/10, which suggests the critics think it's about average. It's not uncommon for comic movies to fall into this range on metacritic (though FF's metacritic score is currently 33).

I wasn't optimistic about this from an early stage, and it looks like it's shaping up to meet my expectations, but I doubt this movie will be anything like true creative comic book bombs like Ghost Rider.

Nah, he didn't even look like Reed, let alone sound like him. A pommy doing a yank's accent - BADLY.

Yep, gorgeous - but useless.

Maybe. He's not a bad actor, it's just again, not very 'Doom'-y.

My wife likes the love story in GR 1. :lol

:goodpost: It seems to be most are disappointed that the good first half never carried over the the second half

More or less. From reading a bunch of critic and GA reviews, it sounds like the first 40 min (which most are saying was Trank's contribution) shaped up really well, with the 2nd act starting to split at the seams and the 3rd act being nonexistent. We've heard that all of Fox's reshoots basically made up the final act, though it's debatable whether Fox didn't agree with Trank's final act and decided to do this their way, or if this was necessary because the stories of Trank becoming completely disengaged and not showing up on set were true. I'm guessing it's more the latter, given Lucasfilm heard enough from the FF set to fire Trank from the second Anthology film, so even if Trank had been more involved the movie probably would've still turned out poorly. Regardless the final product seems to have turned about pretty abysmal, from what's written thus far it actually reminds me a lot of the ASM movies - a lot of solid groundwork laid but the execution was just piss poor. The movie may have fared better if Fox just made it into an entertaining bad movie; the fact that it has some good moments overshadowed by utter crap towards the end seems to me a much more frustrating and disappointing movie experience.

What the hell was wrong with Tetsuo's face in that clip?

The vibe I'm getting at this point is very similar to the one I had with Man of Steel, and both are cases where the creative folks took a totally inappropriate tone with a beloved comic character/team. I wonder if those aren't related issues. I mean, the FF as a "dark and gritty, brutal and realistic" film just doesn't make any sense on its surface. That's the antithesis of that team. Same with Superman. If the creative folks behind the films are so clueless as to what really makes those comics appeal to people, and what makes those characters tick, then it's not surprising to me that they would fumble their way through the movie, trying haphazardly to resolve the fantastic, hopeful, and often humorous aspects of the source with some kind of "grim and gritty," "modern" comic movie aesthetic that drives something like the Nolan Bat-films. Tim Story understood what was good about the FF. Unfortunately, he isn't a very good filmmaker. Singer understood Superman, is a good filmmaker, and made good comic movies! Unfortunately, he was too obsessed with sticking to the Donner films to do a really good Superman film. Hard to get these things right I suppose.

It was like a combo of her screaming and the high pitched music. :lol

This movie is like Scanners! I am so there. :lol
Remember when they said that this movie was influenced by Cronenberg? I bet the "body horror" and head explosions were what they were referring to, and nothing else.

:lol I found this in the AMA post over at reddit and had to post it

LOL He won't (and shouldn't) get X-Men, but I would love to see him have everything else.
